    Must resist!!

I still remember the time when the x-files theme would scare the hell out of me as a kid lol

      • HAHA so true!

      • Sigh, you just reminded me how old I am :D I was a teenager when it was shown on TV, to me it is a sci-fi show rather than a horror show, so it didn't scare me at all.

    • Resistance is futile.

      Oops, wrong show :P

    trust no one

I want to believe … that I don't really need this.

    • HABEEB IT!

My beautiful wife got me this for my birthday last year at $110 which was a bargain.

This classifies as an ultimate bargain. GET IT GET IT GET IT!!!

  • I own this UK release. Great series. In terms of specs/supplementary features, it's on par with the American release. Highly recommended!

    • Is it region 2 only, or regions 2 and 4?

      • If I remember, it's R2. That said, R2 & R4 are normally interchangeable, being they're both PAL. You're only really going to run into compatibility issues with a select few products.

        • Remember that with PAL DVDs you get a 4% speedup, which makes it less desirable to some than R1/NTSC.

        • What?

  • When I first bought these, they were in digipaks, and paid probably on average $180 per season for the first two or three….

    • Me too, me too.

    • $180 a season? Holy hell, I picked most of mine up in the repacked standard DVD cases in JB's buy 2 get one free sales!! Would have paid <$100 for the whole lot.

I did see some of those digipaks second hand recently (for about $15 lol) they do look nice though.

      • You're obviously not old enough.LOL

        • Well.. 27 lol, old enough to remember DVD sets being high, but just not that high! I stayed on VHS for a long time until DVD players were less cost prohibitive. Still, I think my first one was about the size of a small car and cost about $300 :-P

        • I think DVD sets are only about 5-6 years old. We used to buy the season by paying around $30 per DVD disc. Six covers stacked next to each other per season; 30 covers just for the full set of Angel.
Then they sold them in half season sets for $60, and now full seasons for <$50.

If we wanted TV shows on VHS, we would stay up late and tape it.

  • i hope they will release blu-ray for this……

    • +4

I don't think there is much point, to be honest. The show was not ever shot in HD (though seasons 5 and onwards were shot in widescreen). They could remaster it from the 35mm film, but as it would still be essentially raw footage (because during that period, post production was not done on the original film) they would have to completely re-edit and redo the effects before releasing in on Bluray. It can be done, but I honestly don't think that 20th Century Fox could financially justify it.

EDIT: This guy explains it pretty well: http://biglight.com/blog/x-files-on-blu-ray-there-is-a-way/

      • They did this for Star Trek:TNG blu-ray

        • +2

Haha dude did you read the link I posted?

        • +1

ahhh no… but yeah see what you mean…. carry on ;)

      • I don't think the xfiles has the same die hard fan base as trek does, all though how much post effects were in the X files I just remember a lot of fog back light. I do see shows like law and order have been re scanned or really well up converted for TV syndication.

  • +2

Greatest show of all time. Bar none.
I get chills when I think about how much I love it.

  • +1

To restate the obvious….if ONLY this was remastered to BluRay!

Maybe that is coming, and why this is discounted? It has to happen….eventually.

    Bush. Bees. Black Liquid.

    I want to believe.

  • I want to believe the price

  • 61 discs.. jeezus. How many episodes is that?

    • About a 1000? LOL, only kidding, I don't know. But I do know if you want to watch this set the whole way through you can kiss goodbye to real life for a few months. I tried and conceded defeat after about a week.

You'll be able to see how the actors age over the course of the decade or more it went for.
Especially if you go back to season 1 after finishing the last season. It's always amusing.

      • 202 episodes! So based on the assumption that each episode is 45 minutes, it's 151.5 hours, or just over 6 days straight, provided you watch 24/7. So more realistically, if you watch an hour day, it'll take almost 6 months LOL.

    • They should have put this on Blu-Ray so that they could squeeze more episodes per disc. It would only be 11 discs on Blu-Ray (assuming dual-layer).

      • +1

can you imaging the squealing of audio/visual fans over it not being blu-ray quality .. it'd be like giving them VCD TV shows on a DVD.

        • You obviously never saw many of the early DVDs that came out around 1997-1998, especially R1 NTSC non-anamorphic discs, which were little better than VCD quality once filled up to a widescreen TV.

        • LOL, all of those I have seen were Asian movies/shows which I suspect more like illegal/pirated producers trying to squeeze as many VCD/SVCD quality episodes into as few DVD discs as possible.

  • Wonder if this boxset is still subject to the S8D5 problem, mentioned in the customer's discussion? Guess there's only one way to find out… clicks pay now
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Season-8-Disc-5-problem/forum/Fx2L12…

    • I think they would have fixed the problem by now if it was an issue with that disc for everyone. Plus it looks like the thread died so maybe the issue did too. I can check my set, but according to my records I bought in August 2008 so that probably won't be helpful as to more recent pressings.

  • +1

Wow, I totally bought this without even hesitating.

  • It has been so long since I watched this. Wonder if it is still as good today as it was first time around…

  • Its already gone up to £49 + delivery. Bugger.

    • +3

dont forget the VAT is deducted at checkout stage. It's still the same price bud.

  • Ahhhh amazing!! I downloaded them only 3 months ago and watched them all again. Should I really go and buy the box set now?! Decisions decisions!

    • +5

If you liked them, buy it to support the product, even if you don't watch it again.

  • I love the x-files but 61 Discs is the only thing holding me back, you would spend more time changing them then watching episodes !

  • Absolutely amazing price.

  • dvd's aren't like bluray/games when it comes to UK stuff working over here… unless you have a region free player you're going to have a bad time

    • +2
      • $30 for a region free dvd player still makes it less than half the price of JB's deal
    • Pretty much EVERY dvd player in Aus is region free, or will have an easily accessible code found online to make it region free. The only player I've ever seen that I couldn't find an option for was a JVC dvd player which was part of a surround sound system, and that was OLD.

      • PS3 are region locked. Checkmate.

        • What are you talking about. The PS3 slim sold in Australia is not DVD region locked. I've been playing Region 1 & Region 2 DVDs on my PS3 slim for ages. No unlock code needed.

        • Really? Is that the just superseded one? Out of the box or do you need secret codes?

        • Not sure what PS3 slim you bought, but mine is locked.

Watched the whole series last year, what a fantastic show (up until the last few seasons). Bought the box set, money well spent.

  • Currently jb only have the 54 disc edition. So 7 discs of special features?

  • Awesome - ezydvd has it for $340 including delivery !!

  • Thanks heaps for this, was wanting to buy this set for a while now but never found it at the right price. This is what ozbargain is all about :D

Got confused over Fox Mulder"s sister Samantha kept referring to her as Samantha Fox. Wife asked what did Samantha Fox have to do with the X-Files…

If you don't know who Samantha Fox is, you're definitely too young.

    • +2

If you don't know how to find out who Samantha Fox is in 2 seconds, you're definitely too old. LOL

    • just look on page 3

  • Can't help it. Bought it. Probably never have time to watch them.

    • But that's not the point. We're all here for a bargain. People buy accessories for gadgets they don't have all the time.

  • Couldn't resist, perfect Xmas gift for the misus. Sooooo.. cheap I doubt I could download the series for that. Sigh, barely makes up for the lack of good Sci Fi these days though..

  • I'm tempted to buy the new 2012 repackaged dvds but they are missing most of the extras. Has anyone found a similar deal for this older collection elsewhere for about the same price ?

  • I decided to buy this from Amazon UK (61 disk pack). If you keep your eye on the pack there is always someone dropping their price that allows international delivery but they sell quickly. I had one in my amazon cart that was sold before my eyes. I guess it's getting like ebay now on some of the hotter products.
