Spend good but annual fee is not. In this climate take whatever you can though.

Velocity is probably the way to go.

    • +6

$195 for 75k points is very good

      • I'm talking about the days of annual fees being $0 for similar amount of points. Dried up this year due to inflation and all that bizness

        • Supply and demand.. don't apply..it will become free again.

      • -1

Sorry to be the devils advocate by Not really

ANZ black still pips it if you're earning enough.

        • +2

I have $0 annual fee head from the good old days of 2020-2022 haha

        • Agreed, im saying this is still good. Of course theres more expensive cards out there. Ive got multiple CC running right now so it iwll be easier to get one approved at $6k limit rather then $15k

    • +4

I agree, just signed up to the velocity flyer CC - 60,000 + 30,000 bonus from velocity, $129 annual fee back as travel credit, 1/2 annual fee for the first year.

signed up to this exact card 13 months ago so hopefully no issues with receiving points.

      • +2

Annual fee is only $64 atm for Virgin Money

      • Should be no issues. Only NAB I think says 18 months exclusion but I got away with 13 months earlier this year.

Wish I could the Virgin Money card again but did it earlier this year. Damn waiting periods haha

        • +1

thats good to hear, thank you!

        • There is no waiting period started for the cards

          • @knobbs: What?

            • -1

@adrianhughes1998: Thanks for however can't google and negged me

If you look at the card T&C at the bottom, to receive the signup bonus they do not list a waiting period since having the last card. It is/was a typical Citi thing.

        • May I alsk which nab card do you have that said 18 month exclusion in T&C instead of 12?

    • -1

Not the same thing. If you are trying to bank up QFF points there is no point even looking Velocity. You don't want to end up with a bit in each and not being able to take the holiday you want.

      • +7

Lol. Some of us can do both.

220k Qantas points and 320k Velocity points for me since the start of 2023.

        • How many credit cards is that since the start of 2023?

          • +3

            @CodeXD: 110k ANZ Black (Qantas)
            60k Citi Rewards (Velocity)
100k Virgin Money + 30k Velocity on top (Velocity)
            55,000 Medibank Private (Velocity)
            60k NAB Rewards (Velocity)
            70k Suncorp Clear (Qantas)

other 40k Qantas from Woolies Everyday Rewards and other bank account signups and CC spend

            Other 10k.Velocity from CC spend.

        • +2

my stats are pretty similar for the last 12 months but I got much better use out of velocity than qantas. Have barely touched my qantas stash.

As a comparison SYD-SFO on QF is 104,400 QFF + $337 aud whereas on UA is 95,000 VFF and $118.

          • +2

            @adam7070: Ching Ching

Same here have barely touched Qantas but have gone Qatar Per to Doha and Doha to Perth first, did Joburg from Sydney in May in biz QF but that was booked last year so not counted. Got lots to spend up now.

I agree, redemptions are so much easier to get on Velocity. No harm banking both, but hopefully Qantas ups their game

      • +3

I save both and it lets you choose which to take, and honestly true churners don't want to limit themselves to one program.

Have half a million in each

    • +2

Do both lol. I just did.

  • +3

Decent offer if your income is too low for the black card

    • Even people who met the income requirement was rejected from the black card. This one shouldn't be that much of a problem tho.

    • I don't think many of us would be on ozb if our income was high

      • -3

        Wrong, majority over 170k
        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/707609

        • +12

Umm, wrong. Majority is under 170k based on the poll you linked.

            • @onomatopoeia: Oh dear,
              Dig up!

381 in the $170k-$190k category yes,

However There's 766 earning below $170k which would mean the majority earn less that that and confirm @lululuke's statement

              • @Drakesy: Oh dang! I should pay more attention in class! I deserve the negs

        • +1

thats last years poll, should be over 200k now.

  • Is ANZ friendly to non PR customers?

    • +2

Credit app processing done overseas (India iirc) and they're bottom of the barrel so you'll likely need to do a lot of follow up and whatever

      NAB is probably the easiest.

      • thx for the advice!

      • Yep anz are bad

    • Non PR here. Some of them quite friendly, had mine approved on the day exactly I had 9 months left on my visa

  • +1

Qantas Crap.. Go with Velocity if you can

    • +4

Both are good, with their own pros and cons.

Can Velocity do a Oneworld Round the World Business class ticket with 8 stops for 318k?
Can Velocity go for Emirates First Class
Can Velocity have alliance based status recognition?
Can Velocity offer lie flat seats?
Can Velocity offer more than a 737 MAX from Australia to Japan?
Can Velocity offer a single economy domestic redemption rate?
Can Velocity offer a large range of First Class lounges?

Can Qantas offer Qatar Business and First Class redemptions?
Can Qantas offer Singapore Airlines, United, ANA, Etihad ect First and Business Class Redemptions?
      Can Qantas offer faster e-ticketing?
Can Qantas offer better lounges for Gold grade status holders?
Can Qantas offer Economy Extra Legroom seats?
Can Qantas have more affordable credit card earnings?
      Can Qantas offer family pooling?
Can Qantas offer lower status attainment and retainment thresholds?

      • +3

velocity does offer more than a 737 Max from australia to Japan. ANA flights can now be redeemed using the online portal. Unless by velocity you strictly meant virgin australia.

        • +1

Im aware that ANA can now be redeemed in both Y/J classes. Its just that if you want a great deal of constant availability its going to be on the 737 MAX - as its load factors are quite weak. Also to fully use Platinum/Gold status' on VA such as Economy X, Lounge access where applicable its going to be on the MAX as the ANA partnership does not include lounge access as of yet.

    • +4

Yep, some of their redemption fees are silly. You gotta cough up $1,227 AUD to redeem SYD-DXB on emirates Biz. Exact same redemption using Aeropoints is $180aud in charges.

      • I'd agree but for First Class redemptions $1.8k on a $24k ticket (Flex) can be of good value.
Also Singapore only has $400 taxes for F/J redemptions to Europe.

I wouldnt touch EK for J redemptions until the fuel surcharge is down to zero.

I have heard that sometime next year fuel surcharges will drop significantly for QFF on select routes. (AUS->EUR)

    • Qantas is great value domestically, internationally it's sh1thouse.
Virgin is average value domestically, internationally it's terrific. Lower taxes and SIA fares.

  • Lol at the wrong card in the picture (hyperlink is correct though).

The value is so so on this though, last time i took it out i believe it was a $95 annual fee and 75k points.

  • -2

Citibank ready credit without the spend is a better choice.

  • Ha, I had the ANZ Black Reward last June. Might as well churn this card when i am eligible.

    • This is a different system, doesnt effect eligibility if you've had the anz rewards

      • Thanks, never really noticed it until i read the t&c.

  • If you have an ABN, Amex Buisness Card deal was much better, $249 annual fees, (hoping that they will offer prorate refund once i cancel) $3K Spend - 150K Velocity points and 12 months velocity gold membership though Velocity business rewards

  • Qantas though :/

Good luck getting flight upgrades, or convenient flight bookings if international is the goal unless you book 15 months ahead

  • +1

ANZ CC application sucks, after 7 days waiting and 20+ calls to overseas CC department they have absolutely no clue.

  • Anyone know if they will give bonus points on first statement or is it usually second statement?

  • Did anyone receive the wrong card? I ended up with a rewards platinum card instead of the card above. Currently on hold with ANZ.

    • Got the correct card myself, looks like the image within the link, FF Platinum . Note the thumbnail of the deal has the incorrect picture on it

      • Yeah not sure what happened there. ANZ got it sorted and allowed the change to the FF plat instead.

  • Have anyone received the $100 rebate already?
Or it will come on next statement after fulfilled the spend requirement?

    • Have you got your $100 rebate yet, my 2nd statement will be in 2 weeks and should get the points then

      • not yet, should receive 2nd statement within a week so hopefully points and rebate will come together

      • just got the 2nd statement, no rebate and bonus point…

        • +1

My second statement should arrive in a few days. Received the rebate today but no points yet

          • @Brick50: yup same here, got the rebate today

            • +1

@kokoikaka: Received points on my second statement today

              • @Brick50: Nice! Are you going to cancel the card? Wondering if they still do refund on annual fee.

                • +1

@kokoikaka: I have rental car booked for feb so will keep it for the insurance, after I will cancel and won’t bother trying to get AF refund
