  • The AR planes wont give any details on incoming planes and shows there are no public info available whilst showing there are 27 planes

    • +2

I was able to identify an Air New Zealand flight.

The tail number on a "private" plane googles back to JetStar.

Looks like the app is worth exactly what I paid for it.

      • +1

        so its worth nothing?

      • Monday morning update
        Says "offers in app purchases"
        So no longer Free

And from what I read there are much better plane tracking apps that are ALWAYS FREE

        "FlightAware" is amongst the best
Great for tracking incoming flights when you are waiting for someone to arrive on a plane or to check if your outgoing flight is on time. It even tells you when its Landed.
"Flight Board" very good as well to check if flights are on time or delayed.

  • +5

Careful not to point it at Elon's plane, he'll have a tantrum.

    • +3

Because…. It runs on Government Subsidies ??

  • +7

    Before someone asks,

When you see the 40% off purchase option, scroll down to find the free lifetime offer

    • +1

Don’t see the option on my one unfortunately

    • Tried but don’t see the option in Australia

    • Thanks, found it.

  • +1

The plane app is pretty bad. It doesn’t show any information and says it’s private. I share with a heap of flight tracking sites as I have an antenna etc, so wanted to try it out. Plane Finder is a lot better and will give you information. But people may need to pay for a sub to get information, with a flight tracking setup

    • I also have an antenna+SDR but not doing much with it, do you get free access to the data as a contributor? I’ll check out Plane Finder.

      • Yeah you do. Shoot me a message if you need a hand to set it up :)

  • It’s expired already

  • I only see 12 and 1 month options for the plane tracker.

  • +1

“Thanks AppAdvice for the support! Unfortunatey the Lifetime Promotion has been suspended to prevent further degredation to our service. We expect to have the promotion back up soon!”.

Message copied above from the app as per a minute ago.

  • +3

This app is useless , all flight show private to me in Sydney

  • AR planes requires mac os

  • +1

    Lifetime sub is back now.

    • Is that for the AR Planes: Airplane Tracker ? I will update deal.

      • Yeah it is

  • +2

Don’t waste time, all flights are “private”

    • Most likely a glitch (due to huge increase of downloads) that will get fixed.

      • Considering their developer page for this app shows nothing about the app i’d say it’s more incompetence than actual increase in downloads

  • +4

    Just use Flightradar24 website

  • doesn't detect all planes, private plane unrecognised.

  • +3

I think these freebies are for app developers to race up the charts in App Store.

They’re otherwise mediocre or shitty apps.

Assume if an app is being given away for free vs some paid price earlier, that it’s a shitty app

    • Mind blown

    • The app store is a very competitive market.. probably even more than amazon.
Offering the app for free doesn’t necessarily mean it is shit. It just means the competition is on!

    • I know right, I know this is OzBargain but jeez people, at least look out for the warning signs:

      • App only has 3 reviews
      • Click the 'Developer Website' link - takes you through to 'planetracker.co' Take a look at the page - content is nothing about the app, descriptions are about what looks like an accounting app. Not only that, there are placecard paragraphs which they haven't even removed, which say "I'm a paragraph. Click here to add your own text and edit me. I’m a great place for you to tell a story and let your users know a little more about you."

Anyone who gives their details over to this mob deserve all they get lol

  • I'd rather use websites like flightradar etc than installing a dedicated app. You don't track planes everyday

  • +6

Honestly if you even have just a passing interest in plane spotting, do yourself a favour and download FlightRadar24 - the original and best.

    • +1

Yes, and combine with adsbexchange for the flights that FlightRadar24 blocks. The best of both worlds.

  • +2

    The app’s AR view freezes.

  • Whisper seems to have expired, it now says "Lifetime - One Time Purchase $59.99".

  • Every plane I click says not publicly available ? What’s the point

    • Please stop clicking on planes which aren't publicly available.

  • +2

Holy shit there's an ADL to MLB flight in my living room right in front of the TV.

  • NOT FREE any longer
    Says in-app purchases

  • just checked again this morning (Monday 4/12) and life time promotion free was there

    • Yeah I just now activated lifetime

  • Agree with some above that FlightRadar24 app seems to be most useful overall. Free version is good though I've subscribed to add Alerts and a small amount of extra detail. Like all I have tested, it does miss some flights or the detail on them, so I supplement it with free version of Planefinder. That misses details more often but will sometimes fill in the gaps in FR24. The app mentioned here sounds like it falls well short of both.

  • This just looks dodgy to me. I’ve been testing the app and every single flight it can "see" is listed as "Private fligh". I checked several on another app and they’re all standard commercial flights with full information available. So it looks to me like this is just a bait to get people to download the app and the "limited lifetime offer" is really a "limited app" with minimal functionality. Deleting.

  • 💩💩💩
Worth exactly what I paid for it

  • Lifetime still free - just activated.

  • Moved the pin to Hong Kong & set radius to maximum. Found 176 flights, clicked on a dozen, all private. Bollocks. Deleted

  • I tested the app with my kid and we enjoyed it very much. ✈️🛩

    • So did you get any real info or was it just the thrill of seeing some white plane silhouettes superimposed on your camera view?

      • Some planes has info (for example qantas) most of them were private. The app is not very helpful but my kid does not know that. So we had fun.
