As the latest innovation of Ainol Electronics, Ainol Novo 7 Crystal is the upgrade version of Ainol Novo 7 Crystal. With Android 4.1 Jelly Bean OS, Ainol Novo 7 Crystal is a great choice if you want to buy a Chinese Android tablet.

Android 4.1 OS
The Android 4.1.1 on the Crystal is set to the Phablet UI instead of Tablet UI. This is not a strange thing in a 7” tablet, the Nexus 7 uses the same User Interface layout. It is inconvenient that there is no possibility (yet) to switch between PhabletUI and TabletUI (it seems that the Tablet layout is missing altogether). The only real discomfort of the PhabletUI is that the default Launcher is fixed at portrait mode. You can install any other launcher and set them to Auto-rotate though.

7 inch MVA Display
You may not familiar with MVA display. Newly released Ainol Novo 7 Aurora II and Ainol Novo 7 Fire are using IPS display. Why doesn't Ainol Novo 7 Crystal adopt IPS display? Modern MVA panels can offer wide viewing angles (second only to S-IPS technology), good black depth, good color reproduction and depth, and fast response times due to the use of RTC (Response Time Compensation) technologies. A-MVA, along with c-PVA, offer a much higher actual (not dynamic) contrast ratio than another LCD panel types, such as IPS. This is the technology's primary strength. MVA display has its advantage over IPS display. A review shows that the image quality on Ainol Novo 7 Crystal is surprising.

Firmware
The firmware preinstalled on the Crystal came with some chinese apps (some very cool ones, PPTV HD lets you stream full movies) and a complete collection of Google Apps (Calendar, Chrome, Gmail, Search, Google+, Maps, Play Books, Play Magazines, Play Movies. Play Store, Talk, Youtube) and they all work and sync correctly.

    According to this article, there's two new models on the horizon, 10 inch quad core and another 7 inch dual core.

    Almost unbelievably, the names will be Ainol Legend (7") and Ainol Hero (10" quad core)

    Further down, a link to another article says the legend is a 9.7" quad core, so I guess specs are a bit all over the place, but the names … oh the names.

      Ainol Legend has a MIPS processor, which is not good because currently it has limited support and compatibility with Android apps.

      The overall specifications don't look that great, my guess is that it's supposed to be an entry level device like the Mars / Tornados series.

      The whole of me knows that of course they know what they are doing. Perhaps at the start the Ainol name was innocent, but once they got in on the joke it makes complete sense to play on it. Makes the brand stand out amongst the myriad of Chinese tablet manufacturers.

        This frustrates the shit out of me. Its not a Novo 7 Fire or Novo 7 Burning. Its a Novo 7 Flame.

        Chinese->English automatic translation software spits out Fire and Burning when talking about the Chinese Flame name, and people who have no idea what they're talking about (clearly this REP) keep calling it that.

    they make some descent tablets for the price but they have to wake up and include gps and bluetooth in their tablets. i still have my aurora 1 which has amazing screen and battery life.( for the price)

    Great tablet - got it in the previous offer from Lighttake. It's well worth $109 - I'm really not fussed on the lack of GPS and Bluetooth at this price point. I will say that the MVA screen is nowhere near as good as IPS - it's not bad but it suffers from a lack of brightness. Haven't really encountered any other problems with it - no dead pixels or Wifi issues in the unit I received.

    I ordered on 15 Oct and as at 20 Oct, it has still not been dispatched. I don't think that posting a week after payment is made is really acceptable (if indeed it gets posted next Monday) - it will still take about 2 weeks to get here. I am beginning to wish that I paid $10 more and just bought from buyincoins

    I have since received an official email on 23 October stated that it was sent together with a tracking number. Prior to that I sent an email of complaint and on 20 Oct, they actually responded saying that the item was posted. I suspect that they take time to send out official email notification about the posting
