                • @Irish-Gypsy: Not yet unfortunately. Set up a linux box in case Windows was causing problems but still corrupted reads.
                  When I get a chance I'll do the voltage fix on my CH341A and see if it's any less problematic.

            • @FrontBottom: @FrontBottom Have any lock doing the Sdcard method for telnet root ?

              • @cyprus: Nah haven't tried - but it is looking like @bamzero is way ahead of me!

        • +1

          @FrontBottom I created a post on Home Assistant, after I went through some work getting to the API's
          https://community.home-assistant.io/t/help-with-reverse-engi…

        • @bamzero @FrontBottom So I had a good week of playign with it over Xmas, i dumped the firmware partitions out to file. Had a look arround, the company that makes these are ADDX now rebadged as https://www.a4x.io/smart-cameras.
          I have had some success, I got the root shadow hash, but it appears to be their own funky hashing of the password as cracking it with standard ms5 to 9 characters hasnt resulted in a match.
          I also found that there was a sdcard.sh that was meant to run on boot, but someone has renamed it to sdcard.sh.bak or somethign like that in the filesystem.
          I was able to expose telnet and rstp by creating a config file on the sdcard called hardware_test.conf and containing;
          telnet=1
          rtsp=1

          But i couldnt get the login details or the configuration of the rstp correct (i would test this via the cameras AP not connected to an app).

          There is also a bunch of other conf files (hardware.conf) that seems to allow you to connect to your wifi, but it doesnt work great.

          No amount of buffer overruns etc have managed to get me into the device.

          Next steps;
          Try and run up the firmware in an emulator and debug the various login commands to see if i can see what the hashing system is doing.
          Sign up for a developer account with ADDX/A4X.io
          I did notice that the EUFY cameras seem to be the same hardware as well, and they support rstp so I was wondering if we could get a firmware dump of one of those and see if we can "dupe" it into the eufy system, or at least snoop on the configuration commands sent when enabling rstp.

          • @ozeraser: Nice work. Reckon you could upload the dump somewhere? Wouldn't mind having a poke around too, but still haven't managed to get a non-corrupt dump with my reader.

          • @ozeraser: Top stuff. Obviously not your first rodeo ;) Other than the escam g07, I haven't managed to find any other incarnations of the camera to help find other efforts at hacking it. What eufy model did you spot with the same hardware?

          • @ozeraser: I think mine is softbricked after failing new update at 99%. I can't pair it anymore and even pressing reset button does nothing. When powers up, there is just a single chime with blue LED on. Is there any way to flash it with a working firmware ?

            edit:

            it is working again after fiddling a bit with reset button.

          • @ozeraser: Any luck @ozeraser?

            • @zallikk: The issue is the dump of the filesystem has my account/wifi credentials in it, and im not sure how to remove them right now.

              I was hoping there was a new fw update that added a script thats missing from the original firmware.

              • @ozeraser: how did you dump it ? from USB or removing the conver then use JTAG/RS232 ?

                • @bazingaa: I used an Arduino, ground and reset pins shorted on it, then soldered cables from Rx, TX and GND ont he camera to the arduino so you effectivly have a console on COM port, then just interupted the UBOOT, loaded the partitions to ram and dumped the whole lot overnight.

                  I can detail it even further if you want.

    • +1

      I just bought two and unfortunately couldn't connect through the Tuya Smart app. I did try a few device types and just nothing at all. Bummer.

    • I've been playing around with trying to get it on Smart Life app with no dice. I'll honestly end up probably taking the ones I bought back.

      In QR code mode, it acknowledges the QR code is there but does nothing.

      It isn't discoverable in wifi mode.

      It connects to its own "Simple" App using AP mode. If you try to connect it to the Smart Life app in AP mode, it doesn't like it because the AP name isn't "SmartLife-xxxx" or "SL-xxxx". I don't know if there is a workaround?

      • You probably need to be on 2.4Ghz network

        • +1

          I was doing this all on a 2.4ghz network, that was a given. I've got plenty of stuff hooked up like lights, switches, cameras etc. on wifi, zigbee and z-wave. It isn't network related, it connects fine on the proprietary application. It's a compatibility thing.

          Even worse, it doesn't have Amazon or Alexa.

    Perfect as a check to ensure I locked closed the garage door. Got one and looks fine for $15.

    Any chance anyone knows a hacky way of getting it into Google home? I know their app doesn’t sync to it, but saw it’s pretty generic on AliExpress and wondering if there’s an alternative app or way I could use to connect

    • You could use RTSP into a Home assistant server on a raspberry pi, and use that to bridge to Google Home. Not easy but doable.

      • Except this doesn't have rtsp.

        • Thought I read someone comment earlier that it did. But I checked and they weren't sure.

  • Preston Vic says 8 and so did their system but there's none left

  • Wonder whether Monkey vision is made by banana republic??

  • Any way to increase the saved recordings to longer than 10 seconds?

    • +1

      20 seconds is longest you can go on free plan. In settings under Motion Detection

    • Chucking in an SD card seems to enable continuous recording.

  • My local store in SA said they don't price match with Victoria. So couldn't get down to $7.50.

    Is this true ?

    • +1

      True same in NSW

  • there are some left at Minchinbury NSW if anyone is after some, i bought 4 and there was like 8 left

  • So by the looks of it, if you install an SD card the camera is able to do continuous recording.

  • My local store finally managed to find them. Apparently they got sick of people asking 😜

    • Were you able to price match it to $7.50?

      • Nope. Officially Bunnings aren't allowed to price match other stores but some staff are more lenient. Unlucky me.

        • I am looking forward for your review on the camera.

          • +1

            @Scrooge McDeal: There's not a whole lot to review unfortunately. As others discovered it's using a very closed firmware, so getting http/rtsp streams is difficult. It's even difficult to capture information like the firmware from the terminal connections on the pcb.

            Connects fine to other similar AliExpress cameras. It seems the manufacturer is providing a rebadged app for each of them. This one has the best cloud plans out of them all.

            I'll probably stick it on my IoT VLAN so it's isolated from my main network and test it out for a while before it ends up in one of the many junk containers.

        • I asked if they had stock showed them the pic from @munnamirjan they didn't even question just sold them at $7.50 no worries

          • @Irishness: I think it depends on the staff. Some staff are good and easy going.

            • +1

              @Scrooge McDeal: yeah no doubt & this one couldn't find them so think she was like $7.50 no worries

  • Grabbed one yesterday. Great stocking filler. Thanks OP!

  • Finally a camera for me…

  • Out of stock in Darwin and Palmerston this morning. I was at the Darwin Store and couldn't find any stock. I looked online and stock said none left. Looked at the palmerston store online and they ran out too.

    • Hey fez5stars. I just bought two of them tonight at Darwin. They are behind the counter, the staff grabbed them for me. Not too shabby - usb c power connector. The staff said there were heaps, but they took their time to find me a second one.

      • Well, i should have asked. thanks Voe.

        • Thanks I got a few from the Darwin store. They apparently have 12 left.

  • I just bought one and will return this, no alexa or google home, USB C seems so weak. Apps requires so many permission, unpopular brand. So, for $15 I would prefer pay more extra to get this https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/818726.

  • Is there any way to access the video stream via a desktop pc?

    • AFAIK it requires the app so no unless you are able to hack it
