Not bad for Restaurant Choice as haven't seen a deal for a while now.

    • +2

Hopefully you have better luck finding the fixed value cards. All the Woolworths in my area just have the variable load cards which this offer sadly excludes.

      • yeah, I tried two local stores and yes they only have the variable, which aren't included, as you mentioned

    • Yea rare now because of this.

  • +1

Will probably grab a few RC cards, but these might still be EFTPOS only? Or at least some could be, so you'd have to check packaging. Also remember to pay with HSBC card (for extra 2% cashback) under $100 per transaction (can do split payments).

      • If Visa, means at restaurants which charge surcharge for Visa/MC, the surcharge will apply, right?

        • +1

Correct, you will need to pay the applicable Visa surcharge.

      • Can these be used online for Doordash, Uber Eats or Menulog orders?

        • +4

          Probably.

If you look at the OzBargain wiki page that is tracking MCCs of a number of retailers, it says the most recent reports are:

          • DoorDash: MCC 5812
          • Menulog: MCC 5814
          • Uber Eats: MCC 5812

These MCCs are in the list of permitted MCCs provided on the Restaurant Choice website, so if DoorDash or Menulog or Uber Eats contacts Blackhawk Network and attempts to charge a transaction to a Restaurant Choice gift card, Blackhawk Network should approve it (assuming the gift card has sufficient balance, is not cancelled, etc etc etc).

Some points to keep in mind:

          • MCCs can change at any time without notice, and can change between different transactions at a specific merchant. For example, I will not provide you an iron-clad guarantee that the Uber Eats transaction you attempt in the future will definitely use MCC 5812, because that would be silly of me.

          • I do not know whether Blackhawk Network has blocked DoorDash, Menulog and/or Uber Eats as a merchant on Restaurant Choice gift cards.

          • I do not know whether DoorDash, Menulog and/or Uber Eats have asked their payment processor to block Restaurant Choice gift cards.

          • I do not know whether the payment processor(s) for DoorDash, Menulog and/or Uber Eats will always allow customers to use prepaid gift cards as a payment method, because prepaid gift cards are a more risky payment method to accept than a regular debit or credit card. The Restaurant Choice gift cards pictured in this deal are really just prepaid Visa gift cards, and there were problems about 18 months ago where Menulog’s payment processor rejected Ultimate gift cards as a payment method, even though Menulog was specifically listed as a participating retailer of Ultimate gift cards. If you want to get around this and have access to ShopBack’s gift card portal, you may be able to use a Restaurant Choice gift card to purchase a merchant-specific gift card on ShopBack’s gift card portal. Have a look on the aforementioned OzBargain wiki page to see what the most recent reports are for MCCs.

      • Are these the "variable load" ones that OP were saying were excluded?

        • +2

Yeah, it is, but I only linked to it to show what the Visa version looks like in real life.

      • Sadly only variable loads stocked at one of my locals I just checked (and plenty at that). Will check other store later.

  • No Restaurant Choice card. What is going on?

    • +1

Seems like they dont exist, only variable loads ones are in stock. Been to several this morning and all the same, none are stocked.

The old EFTPOS is working and received the bonus points.
Though that card still needs physical swap on the pos machine

    • Oooh the old version for $100 EFTPOS is working with bonus points? i.e.

      https://choice.gift/pages/the-restaurant-card

      • Nah that's the TCN restaurant card you'll get no points if you buy it

        • Do you have link of the old ones look like?

        • @Poor Ass
          no, not TCN.
          Old version of Restaurant CHOICE.

It has 'eftpos' log on the top right of the back side.

I already received the bonus points.
          I purchased 3x$100
My wws reward dollar from $10 to $40 now

          • @simon 84: that's what I told him not TCN one

The one in my link is the OG RC GC

I know what I'm on about guy

            • @Poor Ass: @Poor Ass

              oh ok.
              my bad.
I misunderstand and saw the picture in wrong order

              • @simon 84: all good man or we'll have to meet in Inala for a chat

I visited 4 Woolworths and none had the $100 restaurant cards only the variable type that is specifically excluded in the T&Cs. I contacted another 6 stores and they didn’t have them either. Has anyone been successful? An employee at Kirrawee said the $100 are not ordersble only the variable version. Not sure if this is true or not, but seems to be case based on the comments.

  • I have managed to find a few $100 at Toowong.

    • But I did go to 4 stores before this, with no success.

    • How many left now?

  • I've just been told that Woolworths Cleveland (4163) has $100 Restaurant Choice cards in stock. They're the newer Visa versions too.

It seems like Queensland is the only place you'll find them.

    • Some reason heading out east from Brisbane feels like an eternity to get there

  • can the restaurant card be used anywhere in SA?

    • +1

anywhere in Australia really that serves food (hotels, bars, cafe, restaurants, fast food even bakeries) unless their merchant code on the terminal is not set to those. I even used it for swimming pool entry and it worked

e.g. if you were are Costo and you use it on self serve food terminal it will work as it would be set as fast food but if you pay over the counter it would be set as Wholesale Membership Supermarket and it won't work

you'll definitely be able to use them if you dine out

Woolworths Parramatta apparently has plenty of the new $100 Restaurant Choice cards in stock.

    • Any chance you could find out which WW in VIC stocks non variable load?

      • +1

Woolworths Eastland has about a dozen left as of five minutes ago. As for others in VIC, I couldn’t tell you, sorry.

        • +1

          Thanks!

There's quite a few old Eftpos $100 cards at Wheelers Hill store (VIC) for anyone interested. The new visa version are variable load only.

  • +1

Bought 5 $100 (visa version) cards from Woolies Quakers Hill yesterday. Had to go hunting. They were on the very bottom of one of the side shelves. Only variable in the front one. I think I left about 5 for other shoppers. Got my points! All loaded on my Apple Wallet. Plan to use them at a First Table restaurant, which would give me the equivalent of 60% off the food portion and 10% off the drink portion of the bill.

The only issue I have with these type of cards are the small portions that can be left - I have $2.48 left on a previous one. Anyone figured out a good way to get around this?

    • yep use the small bits all the time

    • +1

      Hungry Jack can split pay.
if left amount like $1.9 / 1.95 then MAC will do $2 mixed with cash 5/10c pay first.

  • Tried to use the card in Dome Cafe, payment rejected due to wrong pins. The pins are 7 digits numbers, very strange.

    Anyone has the same issue?

    • Ya def doing something wrong

The cvv2 is 3 digits and pin is 4… Usually you don't need the pin

You can add to ya google or apple wallet like a credit card much easier to use

But if you want to swipe the card press credit and pin if it asks for one

  • yeah they are very rare.. been to 5 wollies and none of them have fixed value cards. Let's hope they extend the promo to variable load next week!

  • +1

so if Blackhawk recently supplied stores with only the excluded variable load Restaurant Choice Visa card, instead of the promoted/advertised fixed value varieties, then is this considered misleading or deceptive conduct, and have Woolworths issued an apology?

    • VIC Brunswick have 4x $100 Visa behind the eftpos ones :)

  • went to 8 woolies and only 2 had the $100 RC GCs

however both stores had exactly 10 of the $100… not sure if they are testing out the market or what

  • What is a good way to use up the residual balances of each gift card?

    • I go to like Grill'd and ask to split pay multiple cards

      • Thanks! Any other good retailers that would do that?
