Oh, so we do have a way to watch.
Huh, I just saw that it wasn't on STAN like the rest of the seasons, and have been putting on my eyepatch and pegleg these past few weeks.. :/

I'll look into this tonight, thanks!

    • Did Stan get the previous seasons live, or only after they'd finished? I know the first 3 seasons were on Netflix for a while, too, but that was a while after their original run on SBS. If Stan are going to get it I'd be more inclined to wait for that and subscribe for a month rather than put up with SBS On Demand.

      • +3

Can only speak for when S4 came out; but it was SBS only for quite some time before appearing on Stan. Don't think S4 ever made it's way to netflix but could be wrong

        • Nah, Netflix never had S4, only S1-3. Didn't really bother me since I still had Stan at the time. I've since cancelled it, but might take it up for a month to watch this if I don't get around to it on SBS.

    Pretty great start this season.

Bailed after one and a half eps last season but all the rest were bangers

    • +1

      Agree on everything you said.

    • I never finished season 4 either, was it that bad ?

      • +4

I watched it all. It was OK, but you expect a lot better than "OK" from this show after the first 3 seasons.

Will watch this once it has finished… I can't do week-by-week TV shows anymore.

        • +2

I enjoyed S4…I thought Chris Rock performance was convincing… although a few times I felt like slapping him. At the time I was surprised as I thought he was only a stand up comedian. But must be just me…I also enjoy looking at the cars of the day.

      • +9

Same, the first 3 seasons were some of the best TV I’ve seen, don’t know what happened to season 4, seemed like there was a writers strike or something. Chris Rocks acting range doesn’t go too much further than playing Chris Rock.

      • -1

Is that the one with Chris Rock? Seeing him put me off immediately.

This season is epic but SBS isn't UHD and has ads so hard pass

    • +1

It is a shame about the quality of SBS on demand yeah. I have preferred to acquire elsewhere.

    • +2

I'm fine with the ads (hey, it's a free service) but the image quality is appalling. Even ignoring that it's not UHD it looks dreadful.

    • +1

I haven't noticed poor picture quality - seems fine on an HD 40". I guess it might look crap if you have a huge TV.

I haven't seen any ads on it yet (2 eps in) - I'm wondering if that's because they're not showing them for the first couple to get you sucked in, or if it's the PiHole I'm running on my network (which I'd be surprised about as I think CCwGTV uses hardcoded DNS servers (Google's))

      • It's your pihole. I'm not sure which adlist has the relevant hosts, but pihole blocks all ads on SBS for me too. #winning

FTA is so last century, including their digital efforts

      • +1

ABC is quite decent (and they were doing streaming long before the commercial channels). SBS has the occassional gem like this one.

          • @elektron:

ABC and SBS should move to the subscription model, as I don't see why I should be subsidising public services that don't cater to my needs.

By that logic, taxpayers should watch each episode three times to get their money's worth.

            • +3

@brotherfranciz: Folks’ve just gobbled up that neoliberal horseshit Thatcher cooked up. There’s no such thing as society. Steady diet of US consumer culture and 40 years of economic rationalism and here we are.

              • -2

@0jay: Folks have gobbled up that Communist horseshit that Marx cooked up. A steady diet of of indoctrination by our education system, the hypocritical mainstream media and, especially, the Green-left ABC that no longer has a single right off centre presenter, in complete contravention of its charter, despite half the country voting conservative.

                • +4

@elektron: The chair of the ABC is a former News Corp director involved with the Liberal party.
If it looks too left wing for you, you might have been blinded by the paltry offerings of the rest of the news in this country. The centre isn’t supposed to be between the real estate ads of Nine and the Liberal retirement village of Sky.

                • @elektron:

Folks have gobbled up that Communist horseshit

Quite the intellectual, huh? A real independent thinker.

the hypocritical mainstream media and, especially, the Green-left ABC that no longer has a single right off centre presenter

You, sir/ma’am, are an outright smoking cooker.

        • ABC is quite decent except I'm not over 60 so there's not much to watch on it!

          • -2

@lainey13: The only over 60s who watch the ABC are in the inner cities. Another case of the majority forced to subsidise a minority. At least we don't have to pay for the commercial networks.

            • +3

@elektron: We paid $40mil to foxtel. Subsidizing a commercial minority.
              https://amp.smh.com.au/politics/federal/40-million-fox-sport…

              • -1

@crentist: Equally bad, two wrongs don't make a right. But this is 40 million, not over 1 billion.

                • +1

@elektron: I’m not saying two wrongs make a right. I’m saying your statement that commercial networks don’t get government money is incorrect.

Since this has shifted your argument to attack scales of spending, I’ll add that I disagree with your assessment of the value of a public broadcaster, and would be much happier to see them receive that extra 40mil.

If Foxtel needs that much just to show some netball, then 1bil for the ABC sounds like an absolute bargain.

    • It might not be uhd, but we are watching on a 65 ful array Sony and haven't ever though.. "gee that resolution is poor". It's such a great series. I just hope to see the 2 main offenders get their cumuppense.

      • To be fair, Sony upscaling’s supposed to be best-of-breed

You’re probably getting an acceptable picture because your unit’s busting a nut to make it look as good as possible

  • +3

    Aces!

    • Okay must be living under a rock or just busy. What streaming service to watch Aces, a quick google search did not enlighten me at all.

  • Excellent series, ….nntpnews

  • +2

It’s the best tv show this year followed by Succession.

Bear is alright but a good 8/10. Fargo and succession are 9s.

    • +2

Fauda (Season 4) very high on my list, also The Bear (Season 2).

      • Love Fargo. Just FYI, give The Artful Dodger a watch on Disney. I really enjoyed it as it has David Thewlis from season 3 and he is a great actor.

    • +2

      Barry?

    • Barry, Bear and Succession only on Binge or foxtel now? I only have netflix and Disney.

      • The Bear is on disney

        • Cool…thanks

    • +1

Agree. This season of Fargo is very good. Very Coen bros style. The actor playing the mother in law (forgot her name, too much Wild Turkey, sorry) is blitzing it. She's brilliant. Enjoy.

  • +9

Everyone complaining about free public broadcastor streaming: this is not the Ozbargain way.
I'm so happy to get access to this for free. Though it would be great if they stream in higher quality in the future.

    • +2

Do you realise that you're actually paying for it?

      • +1

Fair comment. Paying for it through taxes.

        • And paying for it by watching the advertising.

  • +2

    Love Fargo

    • +2

      Will do!

  • Episode 4 was a let down. Hopefully tonight's is good.

  • +3

First 3 seasons were epic. Didn’t really get into S4 but will def give season 5 a go. Thanks Op

  • +3

I've been watching the new episodes on a weekly basis on Prime Video via a VPN from the UK without commercials and with much better picture and audio quality than the antiquated SBS app!

    • +1

Been watching on Prime UK, too.

  • Too bad it’s delayed by 10 hours when it premiers in the USA

  • +1

    Also watching on Amazon UK.

(just saw post above after I posted)

  • +1

This series peaked hard with the first season

  • I'm a big Coen Brothers fan and I love the TV spinoff, Noah Hawley is doing an excellent job in expanding this universe, I have to agree that season 4 was a bit of a let down but this current season is a return to form!

  • First two seasons were boss third was ok, forth….

  • Yep agree, S1-3 were great, 4 sucked we gave up. This is decent but not a classic.

'A boat story' is cool just started watching on Foxtel but 'Kin' is awesome , it's on SBS… An Irish gangster show. 2 seasons. Absolutely love it. Highly recommend!! Am recommending these 2 shows to Fargo fans as they are good and don't seem to be getting the hype but deserve especially Kin!! A couple of Game of Thrones great actors in it.

  • Nothing compares to the movie.

  • Cardinal on SBS is great
    Modus was pretty good
