30,000 Flybuys Pts & Amazon Echo Show 8 (2nd Gen) for $1 When You Stay for 3 Months on $89/Month nbn 100/20 with Modem @ Optus

160

Received this offer in my email.
30000 flybuys points equate to $150 and the Amazon Echo Show 8 is currently listed at $149 on Amazon and has been as low as $97 in the past. $89 monthly plan works out to be $267 over the 3 months.

Edit: you need to opt in for the Optus modem (min cost $395) along with the nbn plan to be eligible to receive the Amazon Echo Show 8 as per this comment which doesn't make it a good deal

Collect 30,000 points and get an Amazon Echo Show 8 (2nd Gen) for just $1 (RRP $229).

Offer ends Wed 31 Jan 2024.
New services only.

Sign up and save today with Optus.

Get $10/month off and only pay $89/month for the first 6 months, normally $99/month, and access unlimited data with 100/18Mbps typical busy period speeds (7pm-11pm) when you sign up for the Optus nbn® Internet Everyday Fast Plan with an Optus Next Gen WiFi 6 modem.

But that's not all, you will also collect 30,000 points when you stay connected for 3 months and get an Amazon Echo Show 8 (2nd Gen) for just $1 (RRP $229).

100/18 is barely fast enough to leak all my data. Tempted to jump on the fastest plan though, still seems to come with the echo show and 38k flybuys instead for $129 a month.

Not a lot of compensation for having your details leaked and being on a network held together with sticky tape.

    • Cut them some slack, pretty sure they went with duck duct tape!

  • Can cancel after 1 year?
I am looking to get nbn for my place.

Am still awaiting my points from a few months back when i signed up. Told me i was connected then a month later got another telstra bill in. Called optus and they said i wasnt with them yet. After further whining to them got 3 months free and then after the outage farse got another free month for raosing a formal complaint. If it wasnt free so far would change back to telstra.

  • I was with Optus few months ago, will I be qualified ?

Let me check your account details on the web and I'll get back to you….

      • Is yht qualified as per your checks?

3 months for points. If 1 month I’d consider it. Optus should start some loss making deals if they ever want to get our trust again

    • +1

3 months actually means 4 months as you wont be able to cancel before that to get the points. 30 day notice might make it you will need to do 5 months in total. So with all the bad things associated with Optus and having to spend an extra $20/month at least, compared to many other ISPs. This doesnt sound like a great deal in the end.

no 30 days notice. Can cancel immediately.
this is from the critical information summary
"There is no cancellation fee on these plans. If you cancel you’ll need to pay all
charges and fees, inclusive of charges outside of your plan inclusions, incurred
up to the date the service was cancelled."

You are effectively paying $39/month for 100/20.

  • Why does it say min cost is $395?

    • +4

That is how much the scammers will take off your credit card once you give that information to Optus.

      • :D

I think OP missed the (hidden) part about being required to pay for the modem ($306), even if you already have one, unless you stay connected for three years.

Somewhat kills the deal, and I have way too many Telescreens already.

      • +1

You can choose not to receive their modem.

        • +3

I see you still get the $150 points then, but they say you need the modem to get the Echo Show. Is that wrong?

          • +2

@bargaino: You’re right, remove the modem and the echo show disappears.

The $390 odd minimum is if you cancel after one month, which would forfeit the points. Terrible deal.

  • Echo show 8 is $99 and 30000 flybuys points is worth $150 so you’re paying more for less

  • +1

Looks like you must select the Optus Wifi Modem option (which attracts a min cost of $395) to be eligible for the Echo Show deal. Selecting BYO modem only gives you the Flybuy points.

Deleted my comment since you already found the T&C :)

        • OP should mentioned that we need to go with Optus Supplied modem to get Echo Show… :(

  • +3

They won’t be getting new customers even if they offered free internet.

    • +1

Really, I wouldn’t be betting on any horse you recommend. Wishful thinking vs reality.

No fan of Optus but be sensible.

    Optus x Amazon x Flybuys…
