Purchased for my first security camera thanks 🙏 hopefully it covers my front yard well..
Also there's not much stopping from someone taking the camera off the door which is abit unfortunate

    • +1

Lots of mixed feeling in this purchase, I see.

    • I wonder if you drill it on the door etc. if they want to get it they will rip off if its wired-or not.

  • +1

Wish this was HomeKit compatible 😔

    • +1

I mean at this point I don’t think “HomeKit compatible” means nothing really. Especially with matter coming in.

It really doesn’t guarantee some or most of the features working, at all. It just means you can add a semblance of a device to the home app list. Most lights for example have limited controls through home app.

But if you mean secure video, sure I wish it did. I use a pi and homebridge and direct the footage to iCloud so it still works fine. It’s relatively easy

      • +1

HKSV is what I’m after. I used to run home ridge on a service but I outgrew the ‘hacky’ nature of it all.

  • Bought one, thanks. Unfortunately it didn't allow OnePass free delivery.

    • +1

I tried hard and eventually got free delivery. Weird interface.

      • Lucky you. I’ve tried from one and laptop, same.

  • This or Eufy?

    • +2

      https://www.theverge.com/23573362/anker-eufy-security-camera…

There is also issues with TP-Link but it’s with their routers.

      I went with TP-Link

    • -4

TP-Link 3 months battery life vs 6 months for Eufy.

      • +4

It says 180 days on the box for TP-Link.

        • In my case the tapo battery hasnt lasted anywhere near that quoted amount.

I bought and installed mid october with a full charge. As of today, its on 21%. I rarely check the feed, and isn't triggered often (in fact I think only two people have rung it since install). Its usually only me that triggers the motion detection.

    • So I’ve have the eufy 4 cam2 pro outdoor camera but I’m changing over to Tapo outdoor camera. I live in a corner street and initially had it set so any motion (for the areas I set) I would get notified but then I just got too many notifications so I stopped.

Eufy camera comparison for my situation
      Advantages
      1) rechargeable battery up to 1 year without recharging (supposedly)
      2) good overall quality
      3. good viewing angle

      Disadvantage
      1. for my corner location, due to the high traffic my camera power would run down easy, I might be lucky to get 2 months before I have to recharge?
      2. Sometimes the area set to record, it doesn’t pick it up straight away and also there’s sometimes lag of the videos or it skips some seconds which is annoying
      3. Limited recording due to having a Homebase which is just 16gb

      Tapo
I’ve already indoor cameras instead mainly to see what my little boys are getting up to and their mischief lol

      Advantage
      1. Can enable continuous recording so I don’t miss anything. Ive had examples where someone had their dog shit ok my yard and eufy didn’t pick it up and police ask if I had any recorded of a car chase 🤷‍♂️ but yeah the eufy didn’t pick it up 🙄
      2. can integrate the cameras feed into my existing Tapo camera, only has 4 camera feeds on each page but that’s fine I will configure for indoor and outdoor views

      Disadvantage
      1. need to get electrician to route power for the Tapo camera
      2. The viewing angle is lower than the eufy camera so that’s a bit disappointing
      3. Quality at night (for the c325wb) whilst can generate a brighter outpost when it’s dark, I’ve found the quality is lower than eufy even though the camera has 2K or whatever is it

  • I just bought cameras from this deal: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/819141
Do i need this camera door bell ?

    • I mean, its OZB, buy it now, question later.

Joking aside, if one of your cameras is already located near your front door, there might not be enough benefit to warrant getting this as well.

Did some reading and I'm still not sure what you have to pay for to get, such as rich notifications and person detection.
Also, apparently, it's only able to do 5 fps.

    • +1

It’s subscription:( it wasn’t cheap if i remember correctly.

    • +2

Bought this from JB for $242 :'( it's been great so far. Rich notifications are paid the playback quality is higher than 5fps I'm pretty sure. Detection AI is pretty good

  • +6

    This or this?

  • Using one for few month. Great smart doorbell,
but i wish i can add more chimney, not very loud.

    • As in more sounds?

      • Yeh more sound.
Like linking another chime to the hub.

    • +2

      like for Santa?

  • What is stopping someone removing the doorbell? Does it have tamper proof screws?

    • +3

Easy: put up another video camera pointing at this one, to catch anyone stealing your video camera. Thus solving the problem once and for all.

      • +1

Question: What if they steal that camera first?

Answer: Put up another camera to watch that one.

OP works for the TP-Link Sales department.

    • The mounting plate is just attached with two screws/anchors, with the doorbell clipping into it (you need a long pin/paperclip to release it), so nothing really. Even if they didnt know how to remove it, it would only take a little bit of leverage to break it off.

    • There's an anti theft setting so it alarms for 15 minutes.

  • I’m waiting for the wired version, D130.

  • This or google doorbell?

  • +1

Anyone currently using this? Whats the response time when the notification pops on the phone? My Tuya doorbell has massive delay and sometimes it take more than 5 seconds then I only receive the notification

    • +1

This right here is the main concern and feature you want, I have the Eufy, by the time I get the notification the person may be heading off already.

      • I would expect Eufy to be more reliable, do you think the Tapo system is more responsive or these wireless doorbell all suffering similar latency issue?

    • I have this, it's pretty much instant. Hub helps, same wifi transmission so not heading out to the cloud for notifications.

      • +1

Can you explain further? So instead of the doorbell unit calling the cloud, it calls the hub then the cloud?

    • +1

For the most part I get the notifications instantly. Leagues ahead of my old orion smart doorbell, which would only notify/start recording after the person is walking away.

  • This or Reolink?

    • I'd try this. I have Reolink and by the time it starts capturing footage they're inside or 1/2 way down the pathway.

      • same for my argus 3 reolink, only catches the person leaving the frame.

        • +2

Battery cameras are not good for rapid response. To avoid using a lot of power, the Argus 3 is basically off until triggered by the PIR sensor. It then takes it a short time to get the camera running and recording.

Whereas an always powered camera like the Reolink doorbell camera has the camera always running, and buffers 10 seconds of video. So when it detects something, it also saves the previous 10 seconds of footage before the detection trigger.

It uses the video stream for motion detection too, which can give increased detection sensitivity compared to PIR.

      • +1

The Reolink doorbell has the option to buffer the video, so after detecting something it records from 10 seconds before the trigger point.

Sounds like that might be turned off for yours. That setting is not accessible via the app - you need to log into the camera interface with a browser.

There are various options to adjust the detection sensitivity too.

  • +1

    This or google nest system?
I've got google phone, hub and google one.

But I also have 3 tapo cameras already at home…

Subscription for nest aware is $12/m

Subscription for tapo premium is $5/m

    What do you say guys?

  • Thanks OP. Have been in Tapo system and this looks a good addition. Pricematched at TheGoodGuys to avoid long wait for click and collect from Bunnings.

    • +1

You're lucky. Those dirtbags at Good Guys refused my price match saying it was "below cost price"

      • +1

i did it yesterday via live chat.

  • Does anyone know how far the doorbell can be away from the Hub? Couldn't find any info in the manual?

    • +1

I have my hub in a cupboard (with my router) approximately 12m away, with a couple of walls in the way. The tapo app shows full bars.

  • I’m confused what the lan port is for

    • POE? Doesn't mention this though so unsure.

    • You mean the LAN port as part of the hub?

  • No RTSP. Would've gotten it otherwise.

    • +1

Yeah doesn't look like it works well with Home Assistant yet.

      https://github.com/JurajNyiri/HomeAssistant-Tapo-Control/iss…

    • Thanks for this, I was considering it but this is a deal breaker considering everything is locked behind their cloud.

      • Yes, it's weird they chose not to support it. I guess it boils down to subscription fees.

I recently got a couple of the $77 Tapo camera bargains and they're great; working well with my NAS. This doorbell would've been a perfect option.

  • $119 is a fantastic deal. I bought it for $300 back in October (after waiting eons for it to become available)

  • You can’t buy them in store? They don’t keep stock? Have to order in?

  • Price matched with JB but they insisted that the $10 delivery fee must be included in the final price. I tried to argue that I was going to pick up so it shouldn't be included but they wouldn't budge and said that was the policy. Ended up creating a new perks code with a spare phone number to bring it down to the same price.

    • +2

I just price matched with JB also, sorry to here about the delivery fee though. I had it price matched to $119, so with the perks code I got it for $109. I also have a commbank reward for $10 back on a $50 spend, so technically $99

      • Yea I figured with the price match game it always depends on which rep you get. Was tempted to just disconnect and retry hoping for a different rep but it's only $10 so I just said fk it.

      • Hi there. Would you please share the snapshot of the receipt? I will request JB agent to price match :)

    • The Good Guys price matched but JB would not. Said because it's a special order. Best they could do was $245

      • LOL JB did the same but offered it for $144 or something.

        • Hi there. Would you please share the snapshot of the receipt? I will request JB agent to price match :)

  • How do you recharge the battery? Use a normal AA charger?

    • +1

micro usb. Takes 5 hours for full charge from 0.

  • I got Good guys to price match - must have been oz barged have to wait :)

  • Office works also stock this and PBG is 5%. Called them this morning and confirmed price beat so $113.05 (including delivery) and was told it should arrive this week as there warehouse is in VIC

    • +1

Which shop they price beating since stocks all gone?

  • looks like bunnings removed the page

  • If anyone still needs it, Amazon has 3 left in stock at the moment for $119.

    • Link pls

      • +1

Sorry, mate, but they're sold out. There were 5 available when I bought mine, 3 at the time of posting, and now there are none left. Check this link [https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B0C8BFXFN6]; they were out of stock last week but restocked. Hopefully they will add more stocks.

        • Thanks bud. Tried 2 different reps from JB. All are offering above 240 or something. :(

  • Anyone have this doorbell and know if its able to upload the videos to an FTP server at home?

  • I missed out, can someone upload a receipt please?

  • +1

How's everyone's battery life going? I've had mine for less than a week and it needs a recharge (probably 2-5 detected events) person AI only no motion. Could it be a dud battery?

    • That does not sound normal. Did you fully charge the battery before using it for the first time?

    • I'm yet to set mine up but batteries will never be full when posted for safety reasons (especially true for lithium iron batteries)

      • Yeah fully charged. I've got Tapo cameras as well and they didn't drain that quick. I picked up a spare from OW for $37. Will let you guys know

        • I just put a fresh battery in and the unit is showing 98%

          • +1

@tanzy: I picked this up a few days ago and interestingly the battery out of the box was only on 55%. I did charge the battery and it did get to 100% charged. I'll see how the battery goes but for $37 I'll probably just get a spare battery. So far the door bell and features seem impressive especially considering the cost.

            • @Duece1995: I Agree great unit for the cost - nothing to compare too - instant movement to phone notification - and instant for ring door bell -

              very happy with unit

          • +1

@tanzy: I fully charged the battery and it showed 99% on Sunday. It's now sitting at 97% 5 days later so the 180 day battery life claim appears to hold up.

Amazon 119$ back in stock. Only 3 left

  • +1

Amazon back in stock if anyone's still looking for them.
I'd suggest price match with other retailers so they are available for more people.
    JBhifi price match successfull.

    • how much was it on Amazon?
