Velcro Cable Tie, 1cm X 1m Roll (or 0.39" X 39.37" as They Say) $1.59 Delivered

10

Mertiline deal for velcro cable tie roll.
I love that their website lists the dimensions in Ye Olde Speake/Ye Obsolete Speake which I have converted for your convenience: 1cm x 1m

I'm unsure of the quality, can anyone comment?
It is, however, only $1.59 so the it can't be that great… but probably still worth it.

    How quaint of the OP…

I love that their website lists the dimensions in Ye Olde Speake/Ye Obsolete Speake

considering their primary target market is the USA - where that is the current measurement system
(but the metric conversion is helpful)

Reviews on site: "these velcro-like double-sided cable ties are actually made of two separate strips of material that are adhered together, the adhesive will fail at some point and these ties will delaminate"
"A little cheap and thin, but they get the job done and are just what I needed at an excellent price."

    A regular promotion from Meritline.
I like the wider ones made from a single piece of material - that are sometimes available in short lengths for almost free http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/65771 (total size 2cm x 92.5cm for 1c & free delivery)

    What a rip-off!

  • It's called the imperial measurement system… the good ol boys in yank land can't get around to doing the metric thing like the rest of the world. :-(

Not quite - Imperial is the system from the UK (where they have only partially adopted the metric system with inches still the legally mandated unit rather than metric), in the US it is the United States Customary Units - which in this case is equivalent to but different from Imperial units. And a few countries have their own systems.

  • I remember seeing those and thinking it was a little on the expensive side, however i tend to buy velcro (typically called hook and loop as velcro is a brand name) cable tie by the 25 or 50 meter length and those are less then $1/m (actually work buys it, but same diff)…

And 50m doesnt last quite as long as you would think.

    • Places like Spotlight have by-the-metre rolls of different types of of hook and loop, but may not have cable tie. Handy to know when the $10 Spotlight voucher deals are on like now (for joining).

Having now bought/used both types (single piece / laminated) I would never buy the laminated one again. If you wrap them up quite tight (I used them on guitar leads & computer cables) then they last probably 20-30 undo's before they start to separate.
The single piece ones are still going after probably 100 or so and are showing no signs of wear.
I think I paid about $8-10 delivered for 3m x 10mm strips of the good one.
