Tempting but will wait for Google's version

    • Agreed, probably better to wait for Google. Benefit of apple is I can stick on my kids watch. Samsung works fine though

  • Shows $169 to me. Im logged in using union shopper.

So real life user experience here. I popped one in my bike to ensure that it could be tracked if someone stole it. The issue is that in a single day, it might communicate once or twice with a Samsung device to show its location. Samsung Smart Things is also an opt in app, rather than opt out, so even though many people may be using Samsung devices, only a percentage of those people have opted in to use it.

I think it works fine if you're using your own mobile to track a missing item somewhere in your house, but not really that useful for what I had intended.

Very good point, you don't even need a Samsung account to use a Samsung device. So the actual number on the network would be far less. Not sure if the Smart Thing app is actually need for the tag to communicate.

The Samsung fanboys here can argue all they want but the number is stack against it in Australia. It also point to an advantage of a close system like Apple, you have more control and certainty when designing products.

      • I have airtags but no one in my family carries an iphone, so they're kind useless - we actually have to call back to someone else with an iphone to locate them. However I agree they have better range. It's a tough conundrem

      • As I understand it, you need Bluetooth switched on any maybe the Smart Thing app. I didn't have BT switched on and rode on my bike with the tag and checked the location history later. It didn't track the journey.

Yes, Samsung users are not as trackable as Apple users (who prefer the privacy of Apple tracking only, Samsung is not allowed to track Apple users ;)
I had no problem tracking my $20 Tile on daily basis.

      • AirTags can track / find as long as long as there is a BlueTooth enabled iOS device near by, anywhere in the world.

Samsung SmartTag from what I gather communicated with any Samsung device with Smart Things app installed, also anywhere in the world.

Tile can only track as long as you're in Bluetooth range of your own phone right? So the item / tile has to be close by. Different product all together in my opinion.

    • How did you conduct your experiment? Did you put it in your bike and then walk around with it, without your phone?

Mine gets picked up straight away when flying. Never had an issue with it at the airport both domestic and international

      • I leave it on my bike at all times. When I'm away, or even if I'm not close to the garage while I'm at home, the Tag isn't located until a Samsung phone user is nearby (and has BT and/or Smart Things app) which happens once or twice a day.

When I rode my bike, I had my mobile on me (but didn't have BT on) so similar if a would-be thief did the same thing and it didn't track my location at all while I was riding.

I assume that with the density of users in the airport, you wouldn't have an issue which is perhaps what the tag is designed for. I'm just saying that for my particular intended use, it didn't quite work as expected. Remember, your luggage is in a holding area and stationary with many users nearby.

Pretty much get both. If you dont have that brand, just get a mate to add it to their account before your travel. That way you cover all your bases for your luggage before your travel.

  • Damn! I needed these… don't have access to TGGC.

make a free aus retirement trust super fund account
      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/wiki/tggc_access

      • Hmmm, might not be able to… I'm with QSuper, and after the merger, QSuper clients still log in using the QSuper website whilst all the Sunsuper clients log in via ART. Don't think it'll let me create two accounts since I'm technically already with them.

I'll see if QSuper's website has info on logging into TGGC.

        • Dad's got an ART account so he's helping me out with getting access. Takes 4-5 days to set up TGGC access though so the sale may be over by the time I get access :-(

          • @Mugsy: Rest Super worked instantly if your in a rush

            • @zac-ster: Cheers bud!

No, not in any great hurry to get SmartTags. I still haven't set up my S23 Ultra yet. I'll just wait for Dad to get his login access and see what the cost is then.

            @Mugsy: I don't think it's a sale price, it's just the normal TGGC price

            • @impoze: Cheers mate. Guess I'll grab them when Dad gets his login.

  • Got both Airtag and SamsungTag. Prefer the airtag specially since I can tag my kids with their watch. Both samsung tags are too big to strap on a kids wrist. As everyone else has mentioned airtag has a bigger base in Australia. I'd wait around for Google's version then they'd use all android phones

  • How likely do you think Good Guys are to meet their claim of delivery by 1 Jan 2024. Given that's New Years Day this would mean delivery by Friday 29/12. They claim to have no stock but the store I spoke to had it in stock. When I rang the commercial help number, they claimed that retail and commercial were different stock so I couldn't collect it from a particular store even though they had retail stock.

    • Well it didn't arrive so still waiting and zero updates

      • Nothing today yet also

  • Orders been shipped out

    • did you get an email or tracking or anything? I have 2x orders and i haven't heard a thing (store is South Melb).

  • I finally receive mine this afternoon. It's cute, works with remote garage door opener as well. Battery is full too. They don't come in individual boxes though.

    • How do you connect it to your garage?

    • do you mind how to set it as a remote garage door? i have the meross smart garage door opener. couldnt find how to use the smarttag2 button as remote garage opener.

      • You gotta set it up in smartthings app. Under automation. Then select the button you want to use and set up the device. Garage opener meross must be added to smartthings too

        • i have both smarttag2 and meross added in smartthings app. cant see automation. only can see favourites, devices, life, routines and menu at the bottom of the home screen in smartthings app. i have tried to go into routines, but cant figure out how to set it up there. do you set press 1 time on the smarttag2 to open or close the garage?

  • For anyone that hasn't received yet, stock is on back-order. Shipment to GG ETA is 18 Jan; dispatch 1-2 business days from that.
