Would be interesting how noisy it gets when you really put CPU + GPU to use … and still performance will be less than desktop because of cooling limitations.

Have a legion 5 pro (amd) 6800H + 3060 combo. At full tilt, it sounds like it's about to take off.
Annoyingly, it has this strange behaviour where it will immediately spin down the fan once the screen turns off (even if it's not sleeping)

      • Yeah I have an older lenovo with a less powerful card and it sounds like a rocket ship, then frames start dropping, unless I have it on a laptop stand with fan.

Don't use it any more and have been considering putting the gaming pc in the van to play when camping lol. But it pulls about 200-300w including monitor. 25A per hour. I do have a 200ah lifepo4 though hmm

How many watts would this laptop chew at full power?

      • Have you tried undervolting/limiting CPU power?

    • I had L5i Pro with 3070 Ti and the thing was LOUD

one reason I gave up on gaming laptops, basically. to really get the performance you need, it needs to be propped up on a cooling stand - what kind of portability is this. plus power brick that weighs a ton. plus noise cancelling headset. takes a while to set this up and tear it down when done. feels like a chore every time

nah. I used to game on laptops when desktop GPU prices were ridonculous, but those times are behind me and good riddance

  • Any suggestions for a non gaming laptop with above avg or top spec.
A typical use would be Docker, Kubernetes, Software Performance testing(Jmeter), software developement, devops etc. Occasional photo editing. Never gaming.
    I definately prefer a 16" (or 16"+) screen.
Intel VS AMD, what would be a better choice in this case?
    Anticipatory thanks!

I cancelled my order for one similar to the above, but with the i9 CPU, for Yoga 9i Pro, i9 13905H, 32GB, 1TB SSD, 4060 8GB, and 3.2K mini-led display. $2899

  • Hang out for Boxing day and maybe get a decent cashback?

  • Agree that you should only buy Lenovo with a bigger cashback which occurs at least once a month.
It's very achievable to line up the Lenovo discount and Cashback between 10-16%

  • Deal ended :(

  • I missed it as I was told to wait for boxing day deals and the price went up 😞

    • Sadly, even with the upsized cashback the boxing day deals are mediocre compared to what they had during Black Friday etc.
