We’ve been using the Sous Vide function in our InstantPot Pro to do steaks. They come out pretty good. Well worth trying.

just tried before ordering again, they wouldnt return the difference, said to just buy new and return

        • Does seem a dumb way to do it.

          • @try2bhelpful: And costly
            And not environmentally friendly

          • @try2bhelpful: Done so the return is recorded against the account

Not non-stick inner pot is a deal breaker to me.

    • +1

Anyone who owns one had experience with this? Do things really stick badly to it?

      • +2

Just needs some vinegar before washing the pot.

I do not think there is a better instant pot with non-stick at this price. Instant Pot owns this price in the market in value and quality and this deal rocks.

      • +1

I’ve had mine for as couple of months now. Things don’t stick at all. I even burnt some bolognese sauce in it the other day and it cleaned up easily.

        • +1

Putting water in and running the pressure cooker again usually gets the worst off.

      • +1

There is a food burn warning on there. It's a bit oversensistive (warns you a bit too often).

Have rarely had food stick and everything washes off easily.

      • I've had one for many years, no issues whith the stainless pot. I'd take it over non stick every time

      • I actually prefer non stick. More durable and dishwasher safe.

        • +3

Non stick is less durable though

      • you can always use barkeepers friend to clean stainless steel, after soaking with aldi tandil ultra. Very easy.

      • I've got one, some things stick like if your sauce reduces you might get a ring of crusty sauce around the bowl, but leaving it soak for a little bit and then a light scrub with a scourer lifts it right off. No different to a stainless-steel pot or any other slow cooker. Also, all the parts except the base are dishwasher safe so i have let it soak and thrown it in the dishwasher no scrub and it comes out clean.

Never had an issue with pressure cooking though, sauteed some lamb shanks for 2 mins and i could see some bits stuck on the bottom of the pot. Put on pressure cook for 1hr. When cooked and I emptied the pot, there was nothing stuck on the bottom.

Haven't had to yet with this, but i clean my stainless steel pots with vinegar and baking soda only. Warm some vinegar, dump it out, throw in a spoonful of baking soda, use a paper towel to grab clumps of baking soda and use that to scrub it clean.

Being not non-stick is seen as a plus by some as it won't peel off and can handle higher heat. I've owned mine for close to 8 years and had no issues with the inner pot.

      • +2

        100% agree here.
I’ve never had issues with food sticking.
Just fill with water and let it sit for 30 mins should loosen anything. I stick mine in the dishwasher to clean anyways.

If it floats your boat, you can buy a non stick ceramic inner pot. But imo can’t beat metal.

    • +4

It's much better than non stick coating that peels off

    • +3

Stainless steel was the reason I bought it.

    • Pan frying eggs in a pressure/slow cooker isn't a good idea to begin with

      • Haha I sometimes stir fry the meat first before adding water for pressure cooking. So I'm worried it might stick

        • If that's your cooking method, then the pressure cooking part will clean the pot.

    • Stainless > non-stick

You can buy one if you prefer non stick.

Shame the 5.7L model does not have similar discount.

  • bought one thanks op

  • I've had one of these for about 18 months and I absolutely love it. Wish I'd bought one years ago.

I've cooked casserole, bolognaise, chilli, slow cooked brisket, soups and more. And have hardly touched the surface of what it can do.

There's endless recipes/blogs on the net catered specifically for instant pots (with step-by-step instructions).

Every kitchen should have one of these!

Personally if you have the room for storage then get this 8L rather than a 5.7L The extra capacity is good for batch cooking like soups etc. it also works well for pot in pot like Yogurt or Porridge.

This model has a cake Option so you could get a bigger cake pan in there as well.

    • That's the issue - space. Might be a bit too bulky and heavy for my auntie to wash and clean afterward.

      • The inner pot isn’t very heavy or awkward to wash.

Maybe you can create an area where she can leave the InstantPot setup. Op shops often have standalone cupboards with doors. The extras could be stored there. We had this setup years ago for our microwave whilst we were renting.

        • Size is alright for me, but I don't go modify her kitchen space.

          • @edfoo: Horses for courses. As I said if people have the room then go bigger.

  • No longer available at $149

    • I just ordered 1 confirm still 149$

      • Odd. I log out of prime, and it shows in stock. Add to cart and then sign in and stats at $149

Otherwise, with logged in, not available at that price to sfdd to cart

        • Just tried and shows $149 at checkout

  • I slow cook brisket and lamb in oven often covered with foil, then turn up to 180 degrees and remove foil for the last 30 mins for some browning. Can this do the last step or would I need the one that also does air fry?

    • probably the air fry one

  • Have a question for folks who have a stainless steel pot from one of these: does the pot work on induction cooktops?

I often find myself wishing with my current (ceramic) slow cooker pot that I could do the searing and sautéing inside the pot itself (the power output from my current model is too weak to get good colour) to save on a dish.

    • I have the instant pot Pro, and that base definitely works on induction.

Not sure what the base on this one is like, but I know the old ones weren't flat.

Update: this looks like the old design, no handles… I don't think this is what you're looking for

    • The InstantPot has a Saute program. It works well with the stainless steel pot.

  • Can this cook rice?

  • Looking for something primarily as a rice cooker with a stainless steel bowl. Does anyone know whether this does a comparable job at cooking rice to rice cookers at a similar price point? Thanks in advance…
