    $250 card is useless saving.

Buy $100 card and save $5

  • +9

$5 and $7 fees for “activation” are dumb. Get with the times.

    • +10

What's dumber is people who actually pay them. If you are giving $100 as a gift, nothing beats the coldness of a freshly minted $100 note.

      • -6

The young ones don't know what cash is, too used to mindless tapping on their phones. Social meltdown when the banks online systems go down. Also using cash = having to do mental math to work out how much change you are meant to get.

        • +1

The bonus is you can earn FF points in paying your tax bills and council rates + FB points + $3 - $5.
Not great..but better than a 3% 'cream ya pants Ozbargain" gift card.

Thanks for Coles' Xmas gift lol…

Coles express is selling $50 Ultimate Him cards for 10% off until the 27th

    • I suspect if they gonna do the 10% off on preloaded card anymore. 2000 points are more reasonable

  • +2

Yesterday these mastercards did not work on ATO

    • +1

      Can anyone else confirm this?

      • +1

        Your payment has been declined
        Please contact your financial institution

Does not work since 21 DEC. I did manage to use 5 at 20 DEC - then I waited 24 hours ( 21 DEC ) still not working, and today 1pm 22 DEC , still not working!

        • +1

          Yes my experience as well

          • @jellyhead: Same. Neither physical or digital working anymore at ato or easy pay. Have used lots before until recently. When I called they said blocked for my protection and didn't unblock 🤠

        • +3

I had to call the number on the credit card to get it unblocked. The first transaction on a new card should go through but subsequent ones get blocked. Call and they will unblock it

        • Last I used was on 16 Dec and it worked. I have about 100 x $250 cards to use and the I get the transaction declined message both on ATO portal as well as government easy pay.

        • Can you please sign the petition and email Heritage. It worked last time and I am certain it will this time if we get atleast 50 signatures and emails sent out.

    • or you just went over the daily card limit.

    • +1

      Use it on pay.com.au

    • I'm going to cry if this is the case.

    • +3

I used this card and and the card.gift visa cards to pay for the ATO this week. Can confirm they work. The Activ visa gift cards do not.

      • Did it work recently and were they physical $250 cards or digital $250 master cards purchased from giftcards.com.au ?

        • The physical 250 gift cards and yes they worked in last 2 weeks.

          • @Riz123: The last I tried was on 16 Dec and it worked but doesn’t seem to be working now. Did it work for you in the last 48-72 hours ?

            • @SydOzber: I had to call the number on the credit card to get it unblocked. The first transaction on a new card should go through but subsequent ones get blocked. Call and they will unblock it

              • @Riz123: Ahh mine is first transaction on a new card. Could you pls share the number as mine are digital cards and I have about 100 of them to use. So it’s going to be a pain if I have to call them every time to unblock

                • @SydOzber: Mine still not working after calling coles mastercard, mine is digital one.

I also try bought another 1 card yesterday, purposely to try for ATO , it did not work as well.

At this stage, I believe ATO blocked this type of cards.

                  • +1

@bbqwer: I believe it’s Heritage bank who blocked digital cards to be used at ATO. They did this previously with physical cards

    • +1

Make sure not to use any of the prepaid cards to overpay your likely tax bill. If you end up with any refund due to overpaying you won't receive your refund. You will need to contact ATO and provide them the card details you used to pay so they can reverse/refund the transaction(s).

And after they do that you might find the reversal gets applied to different prepaid cards anyway. So make sure you keep the cards/details of all cards used until your refund is received.

Also note the interest you normally receive if you've overpaid doesn't apply to payments using credit cards.

      • Did you manage to talk to the ATO and give them the card details? I am in the same boat but every time I called they just advised that mine is on the top of the pile to be processed (money goes bacl to the gift cards and the rest, actually tax refund, goes to my bank account) but it has been 4 months. Just sitting there like that.

Would be nice to get that money back on time for topping up the utility accounts.

        • Yes it took ages for it to get resolved for me also.

I had to lodge a formal complaint to get it resolved in the end.

          • @tbone74: Thanks, look like a formal complaint is the way to go. Cheers.

          • @tbone74: Could you share a link how to raise a formal complaint with ATO? I have a different issue to raise; ATO last advised to use their website but the PDF dispute form does not work. Many thanks.

We haven't have a 10% off MasterCard deal since 16 Aug
& No 10% off Visa deal since 13 Sep
Is that the new normal? 😤

    • Looks like it, esp WAians been shafted the MCGC since earlier in the year too. Gotta hustle harder since they tryna milk us even more 🥲

  • It's a long time since I've bought these on a points-back-per-card basis. Do you need to do each one as a separate transaction, or would buying e.g. 3 cards in one transaction yield 3x2000 points?

    • 3 cards in a single transaction will give 6k points.

      • Thanks!

  • +5

They don’t do discounted cards as ppl are already spending for all events like Haloween, Black Friday, Christmas and Boxing Day etc. and ppl usually spend a lot till the end of January. I expect that good deals will come after the spending season is over. They do make a lot of money from unused gift cards and it is also a way to get customers through the door and make them spend on other things. Also store specific cards do increase brand loyalty hence we see this large industry of gift cards.

  • +2

I assume that we get 2100 points, including 100 standard points, on a $100 MCGC. Who is going to do the maths?

      • Wouldn't that be 2105 for $100 card (due to $5 fee)?

          • @noelhoi: The 9.11% assumes value in the $5 activation.

            • @JohnHowardsEyebrows: Ok sorry, 3rd time’s the charm.
2105pts will be rewarded, worth $10.525.
              (10.525-5)/(105+10.525)
              = 4.78% effectively

Funny coz the old 10% $250 works to be 7.48%

              • +2

                @noelhoi: You pay $105.
You receive $10.525 of equivalent amount back.
The actual monetary value is $100.

You would effectively had paid $105 - $10.525 = $94.475, for something that has a value of $100.

Therefore, paying $94.475 for something that is $100, means you get a 5.525% of discount.

                • +1

@wildstone: Yeah this has been discussed many times, you can argue that way but the way I see it it’s not a direct Cashback or Discount in cash, you need to spend that in Coles group stores again, hence the (105+10.525) part.

                  • @noelhoi: Yes depends how you see it. If you are going to spend cash in Coles anyway, then my calculation is correct.

If you are going to spend $10.525 cold hard cash in Coles anyway but not anywhere else, buying this $100 card will mean that you are receiving a 5.525% discount of a $100 cash value.

    • Jesus, seeing all the guys trying to do the correct maths……assuming you get 2105 points per $100 MCGC, which is worth $10*(2105/2000) = $10.525 Flybuys dollars, and also assume this $10.525 is equivalent to real cash (real professional would argue its real cash value is less than its face value and this is actually correct since one would be able to obtain discounted Coles gift card elsewhere , but let’s just say they’re equivalent):

      $100 MCGC:
      1-105/(100+10.525) = 4.99887%

      $250 MCGC:
      1-257/(250+10.525) = 1.35304%

  • Great for Pizza Hut SB $10 deals.

    • why needed for pizza hut?

      • You make the 5% saved from this back in cash?

  • Is there anyway we can redeem flybuy points by simply scanning the Flybuys barcode, just like Everyday Rewards in Woolworths?

Needing to swipe a Flybuys card is troublesome and that card is not always with you.

  • Interesting to see how stock and sales level go this time round!

  • Looks like it's the best that prepaid cards can do this years Christmas

  • Two local stores had none of $100, only $250 cards on shelf… (I know the deal hasn't started)

  • Is it 5 cards per day or total altogether?

Kellyville Coles got few $100 left. Castle tower got non $100 only few $250.

    • it should be 5 cards per account for entire promo period.

    • How did you find out the availability, mate?

      • I went to 2 stores. Castle Tower had none $100 ones only few $250.

        Kellyville one had many $100s.

        Thanks

Bought these today and as others have reported, these don't seem to work with ATO anymore.

      Not working with ATO either

  • Went to 5 different Coles, no $100 at all

    • nothing on melbourne east

    • +1

You'll have to keep going until you find some to recover the cost of petrol and your time. I gave up after finding nothing in 2 stores.

    • I asked at my local and they were locked up inside the gift card bit. Not on display. Its like they dont want to sell them. Even after i got some they didnt put any on display just kept them locked up. Strange

      • Most discounted gift cards are loss leaders to entice people to shop in store and buy other things.

But I wonder for this round of offer if availability is affected partially due to public holidays so low stock across most stores.

  • Was anyone able to find out why these can't be used at the ATO anymore? This is a permanent thing now?

  • Anyone have any luck with ATO?

  • +2

I saw someone buying a $100 Vanilla yesterday, had to check I had the right cards, I did.

  • After 24 hours, points still not showing up.

    • +2

Still to early, check again in about an hour, they also had some issues yesterday, Tues pts didn't arrive yesterday, they turned up between 10pm last night and 6am this morning.

      • Points received.

    • The fuel voucher is immediately added after purchase, which is a sign that the transaction is pending but hidden.

I think points are just settled and added.

    • +1

flybuys points always update around 5pm the following day, not exactly 24 hours after purchase.
I just got mine now, bought the cards yesterday morning.

    • Sometimes it can take upto 48hrs (my experience), so be patient…
