2256 x 1504 pixel 4:3 touchscreen. Niiice. Just remember everything is soldered and glued.

    • +6

Ram is soldered, SSD is upgradeable.

It's not super user friendly inside but much better than the old Surface models where you'd 99% break it opening it.

    • +3

      p.s. It's a 3:2 screen which is wider than 4:3.

      • -1

        Did I say 4:3?? <slaps forehead>

        • +3

Also it's not all soldered and glued, you can unscrew it and replace the ssd yourself. :)

argh still no drop below 2300 for the 15inch 16gb. Fingers crossed..

  • Great price…

New intel cpu surface laptops might be around the corner… saw some video talk highly of the ‘core ultra 7’ which is a big leap for intel and catches up to apples m processors.

I have the SL4 - Ryzen/16gb. Got it for the same price last year. 1100$

I really like the laptop. Battery is great, build is great (except for the feet).

It can do everything I want to - basic use.
    Haven’t gamed on it.

I upgraded from the surface book, and there are things I like about both. The convertible on the book was the best feature. But the form and weight of the SL4 is beautiful.

Looks like the same price direct from Microsoft -

but can use amex $100 off.

  • Is this the one with cloth surface?

  • +3

So 8gb ram on Surface Laptop also equals 16gb on other laptops?

    • Apple agrees!

    • Nah you have it mixed up, 8gb ram on Windows is like 4gb ram on Mac

      • Yeah but also 1/2 the price.

The reality is for what most people use their max or pc for. This is fine. They won't notice anything.

        • Not quite half the price. But definitely double the lag

    • I would get the acer solely for the fact that the surface only has 8GB of RAM which is also soldered.

    More RAM haiyaaaaaaaaaa

After using Microsoft products for years, I recently switched to a cheap M1 MacBook Air on the back of an OzB deal. Wouldn't bother going back to Surface Laptop again!

    • +1

Well as the old saying goes, once you go Mac, you never go back.

      • +4

I've never heard that saying before. On a side note, I did go Mac and went back, I just don't like the OS, but each to their own, no right or wrong :)

      • +2

I bought a 14" Macbook Pro and recently sold it. The OS is painful to say the least. I remember trying to add a printer. Took me over an hour and had to download the Epson bloat package to get it working. On my sons Windows laptop was literally three clicks.

    • What are the reason for not going back? I already have iPhone, iPad, apple tv but never used a mac. Just afraid I am gonna be locked down further into their ecosystem. 1 example: I cannot export from notes app at all

      • +6

Unless you are doing something specific to Mac, which is nothing, there is no reason.

In a tech guy, so people ask me all the time, what should I get? Windows or Mac? Android or iPhone?

I ask them what they are doing on it. “Oh you know, the internet, YouTube, messaging, games, calls”

Both phones do that. Both laptops will do what you want to do as well.

Yea the Apple eco system is nice, but it’s no longer a reason to go all Apple.

I was lucky enough to get one of these last Sunday at Officeworks in East Kew for $897. It was an ex-demo unit. I am loving it.

    • +1

Are there more ex demo units?

      • They only had one at the East Kew store

  • 8GB ram? Cool, you can have two Chrome tabs open.

Because this is a good product at a good price?

    • +3

Because Surface devices are beautifully made :)

      • Had issues with both surface devices I've owned. One had the screen dying suddenly apparently due to mobo issue (unfixable), and another had a vertical line on the screen - both happened soon after the warranty ended. Both were sparingly used as they were just travel laptops, not daily.

I've sworn off surface devices as a result. Love them as a concept but they have terrible reliability.

        • +1

          I’ve bought many. RT, Surface 2, Pro 3, Pro 4, Pro 7, Book 2, Laptop 4, Laptop 5, Go 2…
Only one device has flaked out and that was the Pro 3. Which Microsoft replaced for free with the Pro 4.
YMMV but they’ve been solid for me.

        • My family has 5 Surface devices, 3 Laptop 15" and 2 Laptop Studio's (1 & 2).
All of them have been rock solid.
We've been using Surface devices for 5+ years now and swapped a few out for newer devices during that time.
Very happy to keep buying them given the experience we've had :)

Just bought the wife a Surface Pro and I'm so impressed by the performance and quality, I'm tempted to get one of these.
That said, hers has the i7 and 32GB of RAM. Not sure what the performance difference will be.

I have Laptop Surface 1 and its been going strong for 7 years, very tempted to get this one but already bought the dell xps. Should have waited.
