  • Man, you really gotta have a need for all those spacial streams to justify the running cost. Most wifi7 routers are drawing multiple times what their wifi6 counterparts do.

Wifi 8 already coming out in three months

  • “Fluent” 4K/8K?
Anyway, thanks for the link. Could be a great fast router that doesn’t look too gamer…

    • Technically I can do fluent 8k with my 10 year old TP-Link 300mbit router. As long as it's encoded in AV1 and my device can push 100mbit over a clear 40Mhz 2.4Ghz channel then it should just do it

Sorry.. I'm saying the word "fluent" is totally the wrong word here, that's all. Whoever wrote the product description doesn't know what it means.

WiFi 7 is not officially out yet. It is due to be ratified within the next few months. The most important question is whether the CPU and firmware will be software upgradable with a firmware update.
Also the naming convention is just plain weird. BE9300 in some retailers and countries and BE550 in others.
The other thing of note is that it would appear to only support 2x2 streams on both 5Ghz and 6Ghz. The 6Ghz band achieves higher potential throughput because it has the ability to use a 320Mhz channel width:
    BE9300
    • 6 GHz: 5760 Mbps (802.11be)
    • 5 GHz: 2880 Mbps (802.11be)
    • 2.4 GHz: 574 Mbps (802.11ax)

Apart from that I would like Santa to give me one for Christmas as i like shiny new networking goodies. :)

TP-Link Archer BE550 is the actual product name and BE9300 is the max theoretical Wi-Fi throughput. Some stores have the BE naming in the wrong order.

      • +1

        Yes, that makes sense.

  • I thought it was an odd co-incidence that Intel chose to call its Wifi 7 cards the BE200 series, then TP-Link chose the same BE prefix for its wifi 7 routers, like BE9300.

Google explained it. The name of the Wifi 7 standard is IEEE 802.11be.

  • I bought a be800 for about 1 month already, so far so good, not sure if this be500 is the same good

    • how much did you get it for? thinking might as well get the be800 for future proofing

      • i got by paying the RRP 999, not a bargain
simply wanted to ugpgrade, so did not choose to wait

        • yeah fair enough. wanting an upgrade as well but can wait for a "bargain"

these wont be reduced heavily anytime soon.

  • Looks pretty cool

Would this have any benefit over a WiFi 6e router for Streaming from a PC to a Quest 3?

    • +1

No, quest 3 is only certified as a 6e device.

  • The 2.5g wan and lan ports are very nice. So strange that 2.5g took so long to be standard in routers.

Im think this or Xiaomi 10

The xiaomi is newer tech, but people do have privacy concerns with xiaomi
