  • Anything compatible with home assistant?

Hi Loopyloop, these chargers while not having a direct integration with home assistant you can use it with a smart plug/switch/isolator to achieve the smart functionalities that you need, hope this helps.

Looks like monthly spam. Say no to Ozbargain becoming Ozfreeadvertising.

Hi WatchNerd, we appreciate your comment however we do receive requests from multiple ozbargainers to run 15% deal again when they missed out deal from last month.

I appreciated it. I've been looking and waiting for a decent deal for a car I've just ordered. Ordered one, thanks!

I think as long as it's clearly tagged as an associated/company account, then it's fair game since it's just a recurring special or promo. Where it gets a bit dicey is when they have employees/associates pretending to independently post a deal.

I’m pretty sure a swappable tail that doesn’t automatically set current is not legal in Australia. It should not be possible by design for a device to pull more than is designated for the plug type. Having to manually set the current after you change the tail is very dangerous and at a minimum is a great way to trip the breaker.

    • Eh, that is the breakers job. It is an interesting issue, are you sure there isnt a sense line? It would be really easy to implement one using a couple of small wires.

  • Are there such portable charges that support OCPP or other way to control charge?

    Cheaper elsewhere

You can get a portable 10a EV charger on eBay for under $200, delivered. I dont think I even need to mention the obligatory Aliexpress… (Also, I have a 22kW wall charger that has massive contactors in it that clunk every time I start it up to charge the car, aint no way I's trusting a little black box granny charger to pump out 22kW and 32A…)

These are just Alibaba bulk buy units with InChargeX branding option.

Nah, they are literally the same units as what you are selling, just with different housings and different branding on them. They almost all have the same button configuration and run the same firmware. I can literally buy a carton full of these units and have an electrician test one of them and apply for my own RCM approval.

InB4: BuT wE hAvE OuRz SpEciFiCaLLy DeSiGnEd fOr 'StRaYaN CoNdiTiOnS1!!!1!

No, you dont, you have them purchased in bulk and pay a few $$'s extra per unit for the factory to have "InChargeX stamped on the plugs and a sticker for the back of them.

It would be cheaper for people to just bypass and go directly to any store on Aliexpress that offers the same units…

    • I'm not associated with this store but am interested in getting a 32A charger at some point.

For a one off purchase I assume the cost of electrical testing and RCM certification/ approval process would cost more than the charger listed here?

      • For a one off purchase I assume the cost of electrical testing and RCM certification/ approval process would cost more than the charger listed here?

Correct. You will not get one single unit tested and RCM certified for that price… BUT, what you will get is if you shop around, you will get an already certified unit that costs a lot less than this advertisers price.

    • There is no way you can get it certified for less than it costs. Most electricians also wont do this as well. Also yes you can get it for less on Aliexpress but it is only like $100 less.

I do agree with you though that it is essentially the same thing but at the end of the day if your house burns down because of this device your insurance will cover you, whilst they wont if you bought it from Aliexpress. To me that is worth the extra $100.

      • at the end of the day if your house burns down because of this device your insurance will cover you

Oh noes! the houses… wont someone think of the houses…

And just how many houses has been burnt down in Australia in the last few years due to AliExpress sourced EV chargers? Plenty of house fires have been started by RCM compliant devices…

There is no way you can get it certified for less than it costs.

I am not saying that I can get one of these cheaper and complied myself for OP's price, what I am saying is the RCM isnt worth the paper it is printed on for these devices, because you only need to have one unit certified and tested and you can start shipping them en-masse.

That being said, these units are all basically made in the same factory, using the same components, running the same plugs and operating on the same firmware, just in slightly differed cases. They dont make one for tight arses that catch fire and one just for InCHARGEx to meet RCM. A good quality one from AliExpress would be nearly identical to the ones sold in this store, so if I wanted to, I could buy a pallet load of them at a substantial discount and just take one out for RCM compliance testing. Ergo, the ones on AliExpress would be just as safe as the ones in this post.

It's OzBargain, not "Oz… well, $100 more for piece of mind is really close enough for me…" or are you suggesting that all the ones on eBay from Australian sellers are also not RCM compliant? Because you would need to take that up with eBay and your states fair trading body.

This site is about finding the best price for items… and it is slowly devolving into a psuedo-advertising platform for spammers and drop-shitters. I come here to find the best priced EV granny chargers, not John Lam's advertising campaign for their "moderately priced" EV granny chargers.

        • They dont make one for tight arses that catch fire and one just for InCHARGEx to meet RCM.

Hang on a minute, there are plenty of electrical products on AliExpress that do exactly that.

You can often find the same looking item at different price points, and the price reflects the number of shortcuts taken. And sometimes they all have the shortcuts even though the prices are different…

What makes you think these are any different ? Electricals from AliExpress are a minefield, average joe has no way of knowing what random components are missing/substituted.

    • Thanks for your comment Pegaxs and very interesting take, would probably apply to all businesses that not doing original manufacturing, as at the end of the day all retails are the same, why buy sugar/rice/oil…etc in store where you can get cheaper from Aliexpress or even better go direct to the farms. One thing that was not included in the argument is the location of the business on Aliexpress, most are located outside of Australia so when you have issue with products it would then cost more than the original cost of the unit itself to get it sorted. So in reality, the total cost of ownership by buying from oversea is not necessarily cheaper for customers (need to repeat that there is no problem with buying oversea). Fundamentally, customers are free to make their choice on where to shop. Businesses can only present with options. Hope this helps clarifying.

  • Hi John
