Some discussion here on this HL-L2445DW vs the older $99 HL-L2305W for consideration. Basically the toner is going to be more expensive on the newer model and might not be worth the extra cost/features.

    • that HL-L2305W doesn't seem to be in stock anywhere anymore

    • Are you saying that the toner cartridges for these models are not compatible with older brother models?

      • +1

That would appear to be the case. From a google search this HL-L2445DW users TN2530 or TN2530XL, while the HL-L2305W uses TN-2330 or TN-2350

        • Thanks, i have one that's an MFC that uses the older ones, they were usually interchangable with the HL, 2330 or something for the larger volume.

    plus Surcharge

    Such as??

    • +2

Payment method surcharges. I think Afterpay won’t have any surcharges though, if they accept that.

      • +2

That's crazy that the payment method that costs them the most is not surcharged.

        • +1

Afterpay T&C’s stipulate no surcharge. Rare W, unless they include this price in the cost of the product.

wtf, wasn't this $99 last week?

    • Non wifi version is $99.

    • +6

      This prints double sided.

Have one of these and its perfect for my use case, we don't print very often in my household, but when we do its quick and easy with this printer from pc, mac ios and android (yeah we got the full spectrum). if you dont print often and don't want to spend money on something that is not used often, but works when you need it too, this is perfect. Only down side I have experienced is that it sometimes forgot the wifi when I turned it off.. hasnt happened in a while now though.

    • Have you bought generic ink for it?

      • +1

yep, I bought 2 generic toners from ink station and they work fine. The original that came with it didnt last very long Im still on the first of my 2 aftermarket toners

        • the included toner is always a baby one

        • Would you have a link of the generic one for this exact model?

        • +1

Are you able to share the generic toner you purchased for this?

    • Can scans be directly sent to the cloud, such as Dropbox or OneDrive?

      • +2

This doesn't scan, its a printer only

      • +4

Your phone is as good a scanner as any cheap printer these days. If you need quality scans you will not get them from a cheap combo printer.

        • Your phone is as good a scanner as any cheap printer these days

I don't know why an uneducated troll would neg you but at school I used the phone a lot as a portable scanner and quickly uploaded the scans to my e-mail account while others were in line and struggling with school's trash combo printer to get one B/W low quality printed paper.

    • When you say it's quick and easy from your Android, do you mean straight from a phone? Cheers

      • yep, straight from phone, for example you can just print your emails or a pdf attachment straight from the phone

    $135 at TGG Commercial

    • Centre Com can match the price i think. I ordered 10 printers from them last year and they give me a deal price.

Can anyone who bought this exact model comment on compatibility with 3rd party carriages? Some comments in other threads claimed Brother has started trying to firmware lock printers to official cartridges only.

  • +1

    I have the HL-L2350DW
    Love it
Needs a clean quite often though
But I buy cheap cartridges off eBay
Cost for whol thing is negligible

  • +1

These Brother lasers are still the ones i use and recommend, firmware update attempting to block 3rd party toner or not, reliable as the sun rising

$29 delivery to Perth WA :-(

  • +2

Anyone seen any deals on the colour printer version?

  • +4

Up to 1,200 pages in-box toners.

At 5% coverage. This is what 5% coverage looks like https://inkinawink.ca/blogs/news/what-5-percent-coverage-pag…

    • lol, amazing. I don't know if to be surprised or disappointed at the ingenuity of printer companies to scam its customers.

    • So you can divide the manufacturer's claims divided by 6 to get more realistic page count which is only 200 pages!

      • If you're a normal person that 200 pages will last you more than 5 years easily.

    • +1

Not that it matters, but the example you linked is underestimating what 5% coverage looks like. I'm guessing about 3 times more text would be needed before 5% coverage is reached.

5% refers to the physical amount of ink per page, not the amount of letters including spacing. Imagine removing all the gaps and spaces in that example, leaving only a single block of ink. That block is meant to cover 5% of the page.

Whats the likelihood of TGG price matching this?

I have one of those $30 off $100 in store spend codes for TGG.

    • If you have TSG Commercial, just buy it from there.

      • But you can't use the $30 off $100 code. Only works in store.

      • For anyone wondering, this worked. Final price I paid was $109 after price matching then using the voucher.

Missing to the good old days of getting a brother color laser printer at $99 https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/93001

    • +1

scanning marketplace, they average 15 bucks if you care to clean them up and take the risk that the autofirmware blocking 3rd party supplies is not thru

    • Inflation is a thing now…

  • wow, didn't know Brother has this tactic now-a-days. my old 3045cn is proly sitting on the orginal firmware.

  • +1

What's the best option (cheap) out there for a colour printer that can take generic toners? Anyone using on one?

  • I have one similar to this and recently it’s been a bit glitchy it barely gets picked up as an available printer to airprint to. Turning off the wifi on it and rebooting and turning it on again sometimes fixes it but it seems completely random. Any ideas?

  • This is now 118 on Amazon and Harvey Norman.
