I don’t think Officeworks can price beat on Special Order items listed on Bunnings

  • Amazon has this for $115 with a stand.

    • Link please

    • I bought this just before Christmas…

Will Amazon refund/gc the difference if I chat them?

      • Just return it and buy again

        • Theyll usually just credit you on chat to save the hassle

    • Any added benefit with the stand? I have mine on the desk without the stand and hardly have needed to move it. Am thinking of getting another echo show, so wondering if I should get the stand as well.

      • I haven’t unpacked mine yet. Got it for my Mum, so the sooner I set it up the sooner she starts asking me 1000 questions about it (which I’m trying to avoid hahah)

I just chatted Amazon support and they refunded me $6.24 (you technically pay $86.24 for the Echo Show 8 in this pack) after a bit of a discussion.

  • Got the deal from Amazon with included swivel stand $110.95.

  • How is this compared to a Nest Hub?

    • I know you can view ring door bell video from echo where as you can’t on nest hub (well you kinda can but it’s a stuff around hack and you loose features)

On nest hub, you use nest doorbell - ecosystem thingy.

    • Good price per inch if you are okay with the Amazon ecosystem. For example, you can't cast from YouTube to the echo devices if I remember correctly.

These things have amazing potential, but are crippled. I just set one up for my folks. For example, you can connect to your iView account, but can only use it to stream the ABC live tv, you can't use it to watch an episode of something from iView itself on the 8" screen. It will play ABC news headlines, which could be handy, but my kids would prefer it played Bluey

        • Surely that's the app creator and not the device

        • That's a limitation of the iView app. Instead of using streaming apps, like iView or 7Plus, I just use the Silk web browser, and bookmark the sites I use. Silk is not the best browser but it does what it needs to.

  • I just called up Officeworks to see if they price match!
They price matched on phone and placed a click n collect order without any issues. Order amount - 76 AUD

  • Can this device be configured to accept incoming video calls automatically without user interaction? Would be great for non tech savvy parents.

    • From what I have read -yes. It can be done by voice saying "Alexa answer" or Alexa ignore" Also call out can be made by voice command. Ive bought the echo 8 hoping it will help my 90 yr old mum, plus I can check her with the inbuilt camera from anywhere.

    • Yes it can. If you enable the 'drop-in' feature, you can allow trusted contacts to video call your Alexa without you needing to answer it. Basically instead of hitting call you just ask Alexa (or select drop-in) to drop in on whoever, and it will connect. These is a short period where the video is pixellated before it connects. It works brilliantly when my wife calls her Dad.

  • Anyone get their order or have it shipped yet?

    • My order status is still: "Order Taken". I ordered 29 December.

  • Dang me too

  • Got a call saying the supplier doesn't have stock and there's no ETA.

Was offered a refund or an undetermined wait for the product.

Starting to feel like a price error to me unless others got theirs?

  • Got email from Bunnings saying that their supplier has advised that they are out of stock of the item and unfortunately, the supplier have advised an eta of late May 2024.
I was then offered either full refund or keep my order on back order…….
