  • no 780m no deal

    • How much faster is that than the 760m?

Thanks, I am considering a laptop with a 760m to be used for mostly older games (older than 5 years ago) you see… For me I think the 760m will do.

          Much appreciate your response.

          • @Misha Bakunin: I would aim for 780m

            • @Homr: Agreed in theory, thanks again, but I can get a very decent deal on one that has the 760m, would be a couple of hundred more for the 780m.

Remember it's mostly only for games older than 5 years, even then the majority would be years older than that.

The link kicks me to a Education Store login page and I can't get past it.

    • +1

You can't unless you have an Edu account

@HolyCr4p: I didn’t know that you needed to login with it though, as the Apple education store doesn’t enforce it. So, in a manner yes, I’m getting out from under a rock, I’ll go back and fix it for you. :)

    Review courtesy of @penguiniman

    pros:
    - Very long battery life, gets even longer when changing power plan options
    - Well built, hinge is very sturdy
    - Solid performance

    cons:
    - screen gloss gets annoying when you're viewing in an environment with direct lighting, next to a window, etc
    - screen seems to bulge out at the bottom slightly from the frame, not a lot but it's definitely not flush
    - the included pen sucks

    • feel free to ask any further questions.

though there probably aren't any. Overall it's basically a no brainer as a student laptop (what I use it for) though for heavy productivity work perhaps look elsewhere, i.e the zen 4 7x4x machines

How is this compared to https://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/p/acer-swift… for Year 11 student?

    • I have the exact same question. Hesitating between those two.

The Acer looks to be better in alot of ways. Sharper screen, better CPU, better Ram, double storage only drawbacks may be slightly less battery life and no touch screen. 256 is just not that much these days. Idk the general opinion on ozbargain but both good guys representatives and officeworks employees have told me they get more lenovo's back for issues and warranties than they do Acer. Whilst this may not carry across to all models as some may be better than others it's also something to think about.

      • Have a friend with a similar acer model with same cpu and size. The battery on the Intel H models just does not last at all under mild load (unity, CAD), at least from what I observe, maybe 3/5 the time I get out of this if he's lucky. I've also had to take his device home for two days straight as whatever software acer preinstalled onto the device completely bricked it when he tried to update.

I do agree with you though in terms of price/perf. Better can be found in the zen 4 model@.

  • Can someone please help me out with a comparison to this: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/822243 ?

much worse performance with a worse cpu and 8gb of ram (cant service it either, bottom is glued on), though (from my experience with a surface laptop) the screen, build and weight are a lot better. The touchscreen and pen feel are a lot better too, except this one doesn't fold

This doesn't seem like a great deal at all, the acer deals seem to be better than this with ryzen 7. Happy to be corrected if I'm wrong but isn't this Zen 3? (AMD naming scheme is annoying). The 90hz oled Ryzen 7 deal I linked below looks much better with Sharper screen, better CPU, better Ram, double storage only drawbacks being no touch screen.

    https://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/p/acer-swift…

    • the reason it is expensive is because its 2 in 1, not in same category

      • +2

Fair enough that particular model doesn't but heck even this does:

        https://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/p/asus-rog-f…

This is a ryzen 9 with more storage, a better screen, a much better CPU, better graphics, better RAM since it's DDR5 and an arguably better brand as you have an ASUS product. Why people think this lenovo is a good deal when it has just worse specs overall to price is questionable at best especially when you're paying 100 dollars less for a much worse product.

        • Thought there's some overheating issues with the X13? Need to get the next get Z13 to avoid them?

        • i have the x13 2021 with 3050 its pretty good so that officeworks deal seems good paid over 2k for it back then

Avoid the AMD 7#30 series as it is old tech.

    Go for the 7#35 series.

I had a quick look and for Lenovo you'll be looking at the Yoga 7 Gen 8 line.

  • Any recommendations for a BYOD for year 7?

  • What is the price of Legion Slim 5 (14", Gen 8) AMD Part no. 82Y5004VAU at edu store? TIA

  • Can I ask what is the price of the Yoga 7i (16", Gen 8) Part number: 82YNCTO1WWAU3 via the EDU store.

The price is showing on the regular site as $1,559.00 - customer service indicated it may be cheaper through the EDU store, but I do not have a login (yet).

    • $1529.10

      • Thanks wwwsam,

So it would be better off purchasing from the regular non education site, and then using 'Cashrewards' (or in this case Topcashback to then get a further 4.55% off, as these cannot be used in conjunction with the Lenovo Edu site).

  • I cant seem to add the RAM upgrade. Is there something I'm missing or are they maybe just not offering that any more?
