  • First time I've been rejected for a card despite good income/credit history and only 1 other card open.

Similar experience to others that have been rejected - applied, didn't hear anything for over a week and then received a rejection letter in the mail.

    • do you have home loan? and how often do you churn

      • I do. But from reading other people's comments, seems like Amex don't like card churners. I usually go through 3-4 a year.

  • How long does the points usually take to add onto the card? I've just front-loaded the card with 3K spend when I got it yesterday. I'm planning to book flights using the points next month will this be possible?

  • Whats the minimum salary requirement to be eligible for this card?

    • That's weird, I thought the AMEX website stated the required income but I can't seem to find it.

      Google says $65,000 p.a.

  • Silly question but hypothetically couldn’t you just book a hotel on booking.com upfront that hits the minimum spend ?

Get the points and then cancel before the statement billing date rinse/repeat

    • shhh

    • Pretty sure if you dip under the threshold (even after the 3 months has passed) Amex will notice and retrieve the points. However, if you book it far enough in advance, you can meet the $3k requirement in your own time and cancel the booking later - keep in mind that you'll be charged interest in the meantime, so this may not be the best strategy.

  • So I just got this card. Want to send the offer to a friend, can I refer them this card and they still get a 100k bonus, and I get a referral bonus too?

    • Pretty sure it’s one or another.

  • Anyone knows if buying Woolworths/Wish GCs through the Woolworths website qualifies as part of the required $3k spend??

    • +1

      Pretty sure they are

  • How much are 100k Velocity points worth?

    • General rule is 1c per point, if you're selling them in the classifieds, but they're worth far more if you use them for premium classes on international flights.

      • Difficulty is always the fear of being caught selling points.

I was so terrified of having 160000 confiscated I ended up just giving to my wife

        • Oh, I personally wouldn't dare, but it's an option.

The free virgin flight can be booked under anyone's name. Thats good flexibility.

  • Any tips to reach 3k. Amex is not accepted in alot of places.

You could buy gift cards from Coles/Woolies/petrol stations. Stuff you’d have to buy eventually.

Direct offer from Google has now 120,000 points, show how much commission/sign-ups these single owner websites are raking in. Free flights and now hundreds of thousands of dollars in sign-ups

    • Link shows 100k for me. Phone and desktop , also tried incognito

  • So lounge passes:

Never had one before. Partner and 2 kids (3 yo and a 4month old). Can I bring them with me? Would I need to pay extra?

  • Can this be signed up with my wife but links to my points account?

  • Applied, thanks OP

  • Applied on saturday, got rejected letter in the mail today Wednesday. Says i failed "wholly or partly" based on credit information… according to Equifax who they use my credit rating is "Excellent"! As i expected.

Cutting through the bull*(&%!, the only thing in my credit report that could be considered negative is the number of credit checks and credit cards from churning. I haven't had an Amex for 3 years either.

    Amex…. you turds.

    • same for me

  • Does anyone know if the '2x Centurion lounge passes' translates to 1 visit for 2x people, or does 1 pass count for 2 people? Never been to an airport lounge before.

    • +1

looking at their website for Sydney International airport, it says: Access & Guests:
Amex Card, boarding pass showing a confirmed reservation for same-day travel, and a government issued I.D.
Two guests OR immediate family (spouse & children under 17) have complimentary access.

  • Is anyone able to book their complimentary flight at compflight.virginaustralia.com ??
The website keeps crashing as soon as I put 'From' airport in

Seems to be an issue with the website, I called them up on 1300 153 006 and booked it through there. The agent just read out available flight timeslots for the day I chose and I picked the one that was best for me. Tried to book for 3 days online and managed to do so in about 10 minutes with the call agent
