Data amount seems small. I’m currently on a 300gb plan which was about this price.

    • +6

      on full telstra network?

      • unlikely on any part of the Telstra network.

          • +2

@bkksam: You missed the context of M00Cows comment.

belongsinforums asked miasommers if their plan/provider was serviced via the full Telstra network.

M00Cow then replied to belongsinforums saying that it's unlikely [that miasommers plan] is on any part of the Telstra network, due to the plan price & data inclusion they're claiming to be on.

    • I’m on boost btw

  • +3

I am currently with Boost but it's about to expire. What is the best value prepaid plan these days? I'm in Sydney Metro so I'm sure most networks would be fine but I do value decent coverage when I leave the city.

    • +3

IMHO woolworths - must consider the offset value of 10% off groceries once per month which can effectively pay for the plan (if you spend ~150+ in one shop once a month)

      • Also referral bonus for referrer and referee. With that, your one monthly “big shop” only need to be about $135 pm to break even on plan cost, which is pretty easy for most nowadays…

        • what is the bonus?

          • @pinkybrain: $10 voucher for both referree and referrer. Referrer has to have been with Boost for more than a certain number of days (maybe 30?) and the referee had to be less than that same number.

      • +5

$150 is a lot to spend in 1 go,

most people do weekly shop which would likely to be much less..

also forcing a $150 spend at WW means you might try to pick up more unnecessary purchases just to hit that amount
and it might be cheaper items at other stores like Aldi etc..

Seen some comparison TV segments where Aldi might be like $20 to $30 cheaper if buying similar items
so saving $15 for $150 spend might not be as good as if seems when you can buy the similar $150 items at Aldi that results in total price of $100 to $130 at aldi etc.

        • Agree, this is the trap. With an Aldi opening nearby I hardly go to Woolies anymore

          • @Horacio: have you done price comparison of your cart at aldi and WW (similar items)
and how much cheaper was your checkout cart total price?

        • +1

It's not very high for everyone. Eg a household with children.

Just stock up on things that are half price.

          • @realJuliusCaesar: but most people and family do weekly shop

reach $150 is alot for a weekly shop even with children..

Best way is to stack big expensive items into 1 monthly shop to apply the discount.
and the other 3 shopping weeks buy less items..

The other point is with the discount,
people try to stack up on unnecessary junk you don't need just to try to reach a price point to get more discount..
so you might only intend to spend $50 to $70 in a week shop but now looking for items to push it to $100 or $150
just to get a discount of $10 to $15…

I think the term is called saving/discount or sunk cost fallacy..

And then you avoid shopping at cheaper places like Aldi so you can get $15 discount at WW when the same checkout you might save $20 to $30 at Aldi. So you are paying higher prices at WW just so you can get $15 discount.

This 10% off is only good if you only have WW close to your place
            and you mainly shop there..
so some discount is better than none.

Just don't force yourself to buy not needed items to reach $150 to just get a discount of only $15
if your regular shopping is only $50.

        • +1

Jeez where are you shopping that $150 a week is a lot even with kids?

My family of 4 spent $350 last week. That's probably higher than usual, but it's easily over $200 a week, and we don't buy anything fancy whatsoever. Home/generic brands where we can, specials…etc.

          • +2

@loksmack: Woolies are TERRIBLE for things like meat. Get them at Foodland. Ie. Sirloin steak at Foodland is around $17/kg, chuck $13/kg. Colesworth $42/kg and $30/kg. Foodland has pork regularly for $5.90/kg … Colesworth gets down to $8/kg. Potatoes…grocer..$5/ 5kg. Colesworth $3 / kg (so $15). Jatz $3 per pack at Colesworth, Aldi $1.35. multi grain bread $2.80..at Aldi Colesworth $47365 a loaf.
            Etc etc ..
I recon you could half the cost with a little pivot.

            • +1

@tunzafun001: Found the South Australian! No Foodland here in Vic.

We shop at Coles, with the occasional top-up at Aldi. We should do more of our shopping at Aldi, but I find doing a full-trolley quite stressful in Aldi compared to Coles. The other options in our town are an IGA and Foodworks, both being even more expensive.

              • @loksmack: Check meat / deli meats (ham etc) pricing at IGA/ Foodworks. Couldn't possibly be more than Colesworth..the ham is $24/kg at ours!! Half that at our Foodland, feta is $7/kg .. Colesworth was over $20… Just crazy difference. Oh..and the quality is heaps better as well..go figure.

        • $150 is a lot to spend in 1 go,

Thought so too. But I guess with some planning / foresight, you should be able to maximize the once a month discount. May have to free up some pantry space though. 😁

        • When you're tied to Woollies and thinking a WHOPPING 10% saves a lot, you're paying for it!
You could do cheaper easily if you keep eyes open like dating, not married with 10% off.

    • Vodafone has the $150 for 240gb on special at Woolworths

      • +1

with 4000 points that worth $20 .. hence net is $130 … previous special was only 2000pts ($10) even have to get rewards team to credit points as woolies still showing old pack

    • Depends how much data you need but if not much Kogan 365 plan was the cheapest when I searched recently

    • +3

If you value decent coverage, stay with Boost - it's the full Telstra network. Otherwise, Woolworths is pretty decently priced for the wholesale Telstra network. The 10% off groceries would be nice if you shopped there anyway, but I don't so it's not important.

If don't want to be on Telstra, there are probably much cheaper deals again, but will depend on your usage requirements.

    • I'm thinking about amaysim 12 month eSIM for calls and small amount of data plus Boost profitable physical SIMs for extra data.

  • OP, thanks.

  • Are lucky mobile reliable?

    • +2

Not sure about reliable but they're definitely lucky

  • +8

Price increased to $210.50 before code

  • Tried to get a couple but coming up as $401.00 ($200.50 each) after entering the code at checkout.

    • +5

you need to buy 1 per transaction for the 20 off code to work for each.

  • Can you use it to recharge?

    • I wonder the same.

    • SIM Starter Pack and preoaid sim is on the picture..

not sure if that means no you can't use this deal as a recharge, but could be

    • +2

      Official answer is no.
Unofficially you can try chat to see if the rep will do it for you.
Your last option is to buy a cheap non-Telstra network sim to port out then port back in with this. I recommend the $5 aldimobile sim as I've done it using this before.

      • Unofficially you can try chat to see if the rep will do it for you.

        has that actually work?

Your last option is to buy a cheap non-Telstra network sim to port out then port back in with this. I recommend the $5 aldimobile sim as I've done it using this before.

this is probably best way to go if the rep option don't work

      • I have requested a handful of times through chat (maybe 2 handfuls), one time it didn't go smooth, my daughter had to use a temporary number for 2 days. It wasn't a big deal for her, but if you need the same number 247, then probably better to go with porting out then back in, that said, porting itself may cause delays.

  • Shows $210.5 > $190.5 to me with the code.

  • Anyone know the best APN for Boost these days? My data speed is awful lately. Wonder if I should try a different APN (it's congestion based).

  • it is coming up as $210 for me

    • Apply the coupon. That will give you $20 off — it's valid still as of this writing.

  • They've jacked the price to $210 now :)
    After discound $190.

  • +1

eBay had this SIM for $18x from multi stores end of 2023 with eBay codes, didn't buy after get hold of $120 Voda 240GB dea. Woollies $170 for 120GB is not attractive unless you spend a lot these.

    • Yeah, saw that Voda sim also 240 GB for $120 which was cheap but forgot where from?

Was better price than Woolies even after the 4000 ERP deducted.

      • Costco has the Voda deal for $120

        • Thanks. That jolted my memory, hence why I did not get it. No member, never been and not even sure where nearest is. Even Woolies, Coles or Aldi is an hour away lol
