these must be some rich students who pay $39 per month.

      When Boost will pay you

    • +2

As someone who used to work in telco there are two types of people who buy this:
      - International students who sign up in store
      - "Cashed up" 17yo Macca's workers using this plan (+ device payments) to get the latest iPhone.

If you think about it, $39 a month really isn't a lot considering this same cohort will buy $10 Boost juices. If they live at home, catch public transport (concession pricing) and already had a laptop there's not much expenses they actually have.

      • "Cashed up" 17yo Macca's workers using this plan (+ device payments) to get the latest iPhone.

A 17 year old cannot take out a contract for device repayments and a plan in their own name

        • 17 year olds cannot take out a contract in their name, but they can have their payment information on file.

Result: parent signs up, kid pays.

    • If you manage this as your main source of internet (meaning no NBN etc) it's not too bad.

  • How can I use this for my home internet for a month in between services?

    • Hotspot from your phone, or mobile internet device to avoid using your phone battery.

    Nah no thanks

    • Too soon eh?

      • +3

Not too soon, tbh I’d rather be on Vodafone

You know things are rough for Optus, when someone prefers Vodafone…

    No Optus

Network outage is forgivable, Collab with Gerry to defend stuff up = permanent Optus ban for me .

You didn’t mention the data leak. That was an open api to the public internet. That was unforgivable too. They’re perm banned by me too (I was part of the leak). I hold very low esteem for Optus internal technical capability and processes.

  • I was able to "upgrade" my optus plan to this one as an existing customer. So bill will be going down from $69pm to $39pm. Thanks OP!

(Old plan was for 200gig but I'm mostly on wifi either at home or uni so the cheaper price is way better).

    • Are you a student?

      • Yes

  • COL released a new promotion for the same price but 300Gb, 12 months special, and everyone can apply, not just student.

Not sure how their customer services is like lately though. Want to port my work number to them but worry they will screw it up.

I'm leaving catch (runs on Optus) when my plan runs out. Not catch's fault, but fk Optus.

  • Hey this is the plan that us HN Pixel 8 Pro guys are on. Yeah Optus sucks and I keep wondering about switching to a good yearly deal and just paying out the phone cause the $39/month for this data is crap.

    • Why is it crap?

      • Bad connection and speeds.

        • If it is connection and signal, you can escalate to TIO, they "may" give you a contract release.

    • Why pay it out? Just call them and say you are looking at cancelling and going to a cheaper alternative.

5 min on the online chat and they halved my plan. Cancelling will cost you the same but up front and without 100gb per month.

      • I've already been down that rabbit hole and they offered me all kinds of deals but the requirement was always signing a new contract and paying out the current. No way to avoid paying out this contract.

        • Weird. I just asked about cancelling and they offered 50% off straight away.

          • @Duff5000: Yeah not hard is it? Now try to accept it and they'll make sure to mention you'd be signing a new contract after paying out the phone.

            • @dsiritz: When I said 5 min I meant get the whole thing done.

              I didn't have to accept a new contract. https://imgur.com/ZWp4h5S

I was talking to live chat, asked about cancelling due to trying to cut down expenses and not needing 100gb. They put me through to the team that handle cancellation requests. They offered the 50% and applied it to my account.

              • @Duff5000: I don't know how else to plainly explain that no matter what, you'll be paying the 50% off remainder of the contract for the outstanding amount of the phone.

                • @dsiritz:

I don't know how else to plainly explain that no matter what, you'll be paying the 50% off remainder of the contract for the outstanding amount of the phone.

I am paying 50% of the remaining contract so yes i agree, you cant get out of that. "for the outstanding amount of the phone." There is no amount for the phone so that bit doesnt really make sense.

                  What you originally said:

but the requirement was always signing a new contract and paying out the current.

                  and

Now try to accept it and they'll make sure to mention you'd be signing a new contract after paying out the phone.

Nope. I have a discount on the contract i signed. I did not sign a new contract. I posted a screenshot showing the discount applied to the contract i signed when i got the phone.

If i cancelled i would have to pay remaining months x $35. The deal they offered me and many other people was 50% off per month, so still $35 a month but you get to keep the plan.

Apparently you cant get the same offer.

  • im on the same plan with optus but I pay $27 per month…..

    • So you're really going to keep us all in suspense on how you got got it at that price eh!

      • I was on the $25 per month WA geo offer plan. When it expired it went to something like $40 or $50 per month and then i called up the cancellations department and without much of a problem they put me on $27 per month for 100gb

  • I don't think I can even get Optus coverage where I live in rural vic

  • YES, the best offers Optus can come up with after Optusfail.

  • Similar without the student requirement

    https://www.optus.com.au/geo-offer

    • Do you know if a family member with an eligible postcode could sign up for myself and port my number into this plan?

Also I couldn't find it but is this no lock in contract?

      Thanks in advance!

      • Use post code 4000. I believe it’s month to month.

I suspect if you just hit Optus on live chat they’ll give you this offer as I see it advertised at my local Westfield.
