    nice find Op!
Google Pixel 7 is also $499

    https://www.telstra.com.au/mobile-phones/mobiles-on-a-plan/g…

comparison depending on what you want.
    A54 had a bigger battery,
pixel 7 has more ram (8gb vs 6gb) and fast processor.

    https://m.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?&idPhone2=11903&idPhone1…

    • Good find on the PIxel 7 and may be able to use gift card and price beat at Officeworks to get to the $450 I mention below.

Pixel 7 also has a significant higher trade in value at $295, that is almost 70% more.

Only concern is Pixel 7 was very buggy according to many report. Some issue was damn hardware related and not fixable by updates. Not sure what the current selling batch of Pixel 7 is like.

Edit: Ok find this bug list https://www.androidauthority.com/google-pixel-7-pro-problems…

To me looks too much hard work and won't suggest if you are buying to keep for long time. If you are looking to trade in in a year / 18 moonths, may be gave it a go. Time flies as we know🤣🤣

      • Good find on the PIxel 7

        Not really
        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/825258

It's on the front page from yesterday…

Officeworks were refusing PB and have hardly any stock anyway

        • And very sneaky they change the item price to $497 even though its OOS…..

          • @syswong: Hope they will do the same for this A54 too, and just update the price to $497, so no need to PB and we can all just buy it!

  • Dam I paid $599 for my A34 last week, I should have waited :(

  • I've been looking at getting a new phone for a family member recently, I watched MKB's video too but I'm finding it very hard to just not buy an Oppo find x2 pro for around this price. I currently have one and its a beast still.
Snapdragon 865 ( a little old but still handles everything fine) 12GB ram, 512GB storage, 65W fast charge, and a really good camera even by todays standards. And I'm still getting updates.
How does it compare to something like this?

    • Oppo find X2 pro is a beast! However, not sure how many more updates it'll get.

  • Not really a deal in my opinion as it had hit this price often. Bing Lee had it for $477 at end of November and then down to $429 for 4 hours with their flash sale.

May be OZBs can use this deal and get price beat by Officeworks for 5%, which comes down to $450

Also the phone is a equal of S20 5G at best. At the moment you can get a S20 5G for around $400, except from the bigger battery, S20 is superior to A54 in most specs and they both bare the same trade in value as of today ($175).

  • Is it difficult or expensive to unlock phones from Telstra?

Also OW would be unlikely to match due to theirs being unlocked.

    • +3

These are standard Samsung stock, not lock to Telstra.

      • Im keen to buy one, but how do I confirm this on their site?

        • No one sell locked phones anymore for years unless you buy carrier prepaid phones.

          • @syswong: Yeah right, I didn't know that. Its been a while since I last bought one.

Might pull the trigger, just hope the graphite dont take ages to come in stock.

          • @syswong: Are you sure? The person I chatted with on the site said it was locked. $80 to unlock

  • A55 due march. This will get further reductions then. $500 is around expected price for now

    • Do you think they will drop over the next few months?

I have the worst timing on buying things!

  • My son has had this model a year or two and it suddenly developed a weird issue where the phone thinks it's too COLD to charge. Google tells me its a thermistor or some such known issue. Absolute PITA cos it can't be charged wirelessly either. Doesn't seem to be any fix other than pulling the whole thing apart and replacing said part. Flap knows how much that will cost. Probs time for a new phone.

Samsung provides 2 years warranty, just send in to get it repaired. It should be FREE.

      • Hmmm. Thanks for the heads up. Not sure exactly when he got it, but I'll suss it out with the ex who bought it for him. (Mum) Cheers.

But this model was only released less than 10 months ago, are you referring to the A52 or A53?

(edited, I originally wrote 9 months, it was released in March 2023)

      • Oh yeah. Could be. Woops. Lol. Maybe a 52. My bad. D'oh.

  • Just tried doing price beat on OW but they denied it saying that it requires telstra id. Do JB do PB?

    • That is so full of BS…

      • exactly, all these OW & JB will try their shitty best to have excuses avoiding PB !!!

        • JB is better but they only price match. You have to use GC to make it worth while.

  • Does anyone know if these allow physical SIM + eSIM + microSD?

I've seen reports saying that Australian stock has only 1 SIM slot?

    • Correct, and almost certain you can't trade in if you buy a dual Sim model, ok if you plan to use it to death and not trade in with Samsung or JB offers.

      • Sorry, which part was correct? I can use a physical SIM + eSIM + microSD all with only one SIM slot? Thanks.

EDIT* - Just saw that telstra lists it as incompatible with eSIM on their page.

        • Guess I was wrong, this model is one slot for SD and one for SIM card…

          • @syswong: Cheers - weird hey? I was pretty set on this phone as I need a microSD + eSIM, but doesn't seem to accommodate either of those in Aus.
