[VIC] CordTech Extension Reels 15m & 20m $10 Each @ Bunnings, Waurn Ponds

110

Could be store-specific but found these in a box on a pallet near the timber yard entrance at Bunnings Waurn Ponds.

More than 10 left by the time I left at around 11:30am. The blue and yellow ones seem heavy duty to me as the wires look to be a bit thicker. There are also some 15m ones mixed with the 20m ones.

I picked up two 20m ones but they were still scanned $25 at checkout so make sure to ask the staff members to change the price.

Good Luck!

  • Seven Hills bunnings had these last week as well - so did Castle Hill - so I assume its nationwide clearance?

I tried to get one at my local bunnings last time this was posted on OZB. Was told they were still full price, and clearances are always store specific.

Sadly no, i went to the one at Nunawading when someone on here posted and they had 0 stock but told me computer was showing same price at Blackburn so i went but they told me they did not price match clearance items for other stores…

    • I was in the Castle Hill store and it was still $39.

      • weird, was on clearance at the trade desk between Christmas and New Year

There is another pallet of them between the aisle ends just inside the doors from the timber section.

  • OP can you confirm if these are 2.5mm cable?

Just had a look but couldn't find anything on the actual sticker. The cable does have an engraving that says "4v-75 3x1.0mm2 0.6/1.0kv Heavy Duty - CordTech". Hope that helps xD.

        "3x1.0mm2"

      • Thanks for checking.

No chance… "Home and Office Cable Reel"
Lucky if it's even 1.5, looking at their other products that's what they refer to as Extra Heavy Duty.

      • Thanks! Yeah thought that might be the case.

        • Heavy duty doesn't mean what it used to does it. 1.0mm is what I'd call standard duty over this length 😄

2.5mm is very very rare. The only ones I saw at Bunnings were 15a cables or 10a cables near $200.

Anyone looking to get this for a EV should go 1.5mm core minimum for 10a and 2.5mm for 15a. They get pretty warm with thinner cables.

      • You are correct. Bunnings got the 2.5mm 10a only in 50m length, and it’s around $180. The other one is the 15a in 40m length.

        • what are you running that needs 2.5mm?

          • @kimmoth: I was grinding my shed concrete slab for epoxy. The smallest single head grinder from Kennards needs 2.5mm 10a extension.

@cheach: fair, try jr turk. they might have something

          • @kimmoth: I’ll just add that EV charging is unusual for an electrical load, and almost all EV companies suggest against or ban extension cables, so it’s good to overspec your extension cable.

Almost nothing draws that much power, continually, for hours. Toasters, dryers, welding machines, etc all usually turn off (at least for brief periods) so the cable/plugs have a chance to cool down.

Maxing 10/15A over multiple hours generates a fair bit of heat, which takes a toll on cables.

            • @enigma48: yes, thats a good point. i use 1.5mm in my workshop with rcd's. sadly no 3 phase so all the motors are sitting collecting dust
