I want a reason to buy an xbox so much but I legit cant think of one.

    • +10

Me too friend. With two kids under 4, I highly doubt I would get to use it very much.

Diablo nostalgia on a couch with a big screen does sound great though…

      • +3

Mate I’ve got 3 kids under 4 (18mo twins) and it took me a year to turn my Xbox on after my first kid and more like 6m after my twins. Now the only time I can play is the evening after the kids are in bed or during their nap time after lunch. Max 2 hours on a given day and that’s if I don’t have anything more important I need to do first. I’m still using my One X from before I had kids and have been playing D4 since it came out. It’s a good game if you have to play in shortish sessions as most quests/dungeons take less than 30mins and you can stop pretty much anytime without losing too much progress.

        • Haha. Thanks for the encouragement mate.

      • Game Pass is perfect for kids, you just pay $10/month and not have to worry it comes with all the free to play games like Roblox, Fortnite, Rocket League.

    • +7

Game Pass. Although I'm not sure if you can still do the >2 year Game Pass for very cheap.

    • +5

I am PS guy but bought the Series X last year (as I only needed to pay $120 and traded my PS4 pro at EB). Then I bought Ultimate Game Pass $70 for 3 years from Turkey. Recently bought Baldur's Gate 3 and Cyberpunks Ultimate Edition for less than $50. It is very good value for gamer to have Series X as well. I still buy Cyberpunks again on PS5 (cross progression).

    • +3

I bought one an still wonder why. Only gets used for bluray these days. Not to say it isn't a good system and there's no good games, but it's hard to deny that the first party game offerings have dropped off. To be honest, I haven't enjoyed Xbox much since the 360 era…

let me preface this with this is purely imho, neither right nor wrong, just mine - as someone whos had every almost every big sega/nintendo/sony console but who got their first MS console last month in the $500 black friday deal - i found most of my preconceived notions about a microsoft console were true…

the hardware; the console itself is a pretty stupid design and the only way i can mount it (horizontal) so that it exhausts out the back of my tv unit, leaves it to reveal the base, which is the consoles underside… a circular pad attached to a square. it looks awful. but that said, the ps5 is also stupid looking. huge, white, and has a genuine design flaw that kills the cpu over time if mounted vertical… in my brief time, i have already had one actual crash, where the system locked up and one weird crash where for some reason a games entire menu system was malfunctioning (i couldnt enter the menu). yet the game was still playable but i was going around unable to progress without the menu wondering wtf was happening. i've never experienced anything like that …except on PC's. yay. for me PC & console games are the antithesis of each other; consoles, like an arcade machine should always just work… whereas PC's you should expect a bit of troubleshooting and customisation and digging deeper etc. this is has been my main preconcieved issue with xbox - MS blurs the lines of their shitty software.

i digress; from a usability slash ux design & os, the console is deeply uncool in typical microsoft fashion. i pretty much hate everything about it on sight and again, this is just one man's opinion… but to me it feels inferior to every console OS experience i've ever had. beyond that, the controller is a piece of junk, and feels like something from decades ago. it's ghetto. the dualshock4 leaves it for dead and the dualsense feels like alien predator technology by comparison…

the game library; to me its mostly trash. but also, i'm old. halo never wow'ed me like so many, because i grew up playing, wolf3d, duke3d, doom, quake1/2/3 etc. i've gone through the whole library almost and theres not even a handful of exclusives i'd want to play. i bought it because it was cheap, and i love driving games and forza moto & horizon have always piqued my interest. theres some great looking games sure, but in general theres just something b-grade and off with the presentation & "style" of everything. its not distinct enough from a PC.

full disclosure, ive bought 3 games and they were all round $20 with a vpn country key; baldursgate3, forza horizon, forza moto. i could probably live without these games, they dont particularly strike my longterm interest but it sure beat paying $100 for something i might play a little on ps5 w/ baldurs. unfortunately, this grey area of cheap foreign keys for games, is the only potential benefit and i believe the biggest short term strength of the console is this - this is a poisoned chalice though because microsoft, in typical microsoft fashion is engaging in anti-competitive behaviour in the extreme. gamepass itself with the sub model & buying up everything, is 110% bad for the future of video games - that they are allowing things like cdkey purchasing from cheap territories without any real fallout, whilst dipping your toes in what will ultimately ruin gaming does allow you to circumvent the ratcheting up of game prices to insane degrees. these are things sony doesn't allow anywhere near as easily (would never bother with multiple country logins for cheap psn stuff), and sony is also pulling its own brand of bullshit with games pushing $130-150 dollars and the insane levels for deluxe/dlc versions.

like anything, if you had it discounted ($500 was an absolute steal) and/or can afford it, or you actually wanted that PC-lite experience (like playing endless shitty fps games in an inferior way) then absolutely an xbox has its benefits. but in terms of actual console games, and a proper console experience sony is so far ahead of giving actual console experiences and must-play exclusive games its miles ahead.

      • Only read the controller comment. I feel like I get autism when I use the PlayStation controller. The only reason y I think people like it, is that’s because that’s what they’re used to over years of having the same terrible joystick positions

        • +1

adaptation to the thumbstick positions isn't hard or major, tbf right thumbstick & dpad positions should be interchangeably modular like the ps5 elite or whatever its called. especially considering how much the thumbsticks fail or to have diff stick designs for diff games. just not for $300+ or whatever its they charge.

however the trigger and haptic tech on the dual sense is from another universe and makes a genuine difference. for example in a driving game like gt7, while wheel control is obvs superior for movement to a thumbstick, the haptics give you the feel feedback and control that rivals a loadcell accel/brake/clutch rig on a pc. its one of the few things about this generation thats actually been game changing.

          • @autolux: I think you’re over thinking into what a controller is for.

A controller is nothing like driving a real car. You must be young to think like that lol

            • -1

              @Danstar:

the haptics give you the feel feedback and control that rivals a loadcell accel/brake/clutch rig on a PC

Yeah, that made me LOL a LOT 😀

            • +1

@Danstar: nobody said it was like driving a real car. i said while controller is still obvs inferior to a wheel, the dual sense haptics in gran turismo give you a level of feedback previously unheard of in a controller and in some ways it surpasses >$1000 sim rigs - you get expensive loadcell level foot feedback directly in your hands. its made driving games almost viable on a controller in particular. not greater, but passable and enjoyable whereas previously its always been painful..

this is not an outlier opinion, a majority of people playing gran turismo 7 will say speak the same volumes on it, as well as in general about the dual sense. its a serious achievement, and the overall point being that - by comparison, the xbox series x controller is ghetto junk from the 90s.

              • -1

@autolux: If ps and Xbox controllers both came out today as never seen before.

The Xbox controller would win hands down. The ps controller is only “liked” by anyone is because that’s what they’re used to since the Ps2

    • +1

Game pass which includes all Xbox titles day 1, Bethesda titles and soon Blizzard and Activision titles meaning if you play COD yearly you only need to play 1 more game in game pass to make it worthwhile for the entire year, exclusive games, controller, ecosystem, the most powerful console on paper.

      • -1

the most powerful console on paper

And the lowest selling. Highest selling is the lowest powered (Nintendo). So why does this keep getting mentioned as though it's actually important?

        • +3

Cos if Sony had a more powerful console; we wouldn’t hear the end of it from the fan bois

          • +1

@Danstar: We keep hearing it from the XBOX fanbois, so that's no better. Who cares which is the most powerful? It's about the playing experience.

        • +1

its a rock to cling to. theres no real discernible graphical difference between them as a hill to die on. the real performance this generation is in raw IO as well, and Sony noticeably bested MS in all areas of it.

    • I also would like a good reason, Diablo is not enough of a reason.
I'm torn between my 10 year old Xbox One S just being generally forever slow to do anything, vs I only ever turn it on and muck about looking for something to kill time when sitting on the couch chatting to a mate.

      • it's more than a night and day difference compared to the One S when it comes to load times, had to boot up a One S last week and I was shocked how we put up with that slow 5200rpm HDD. You'll love the quick resume feature that allows you to store up to like 6 different games in memory which allows you to instantly switch between them where you left off, you could be playing BG3 and launch Jedi Survivor and be in the exact same spot where when you last played. The cool thing about quick resume is it works even if you unplugged the console, someone took their console to a different country plugged it in and loaded their game instantly exactly where they left off. The game takes like 10 seconds to load as well its super fast.

        • yeah they are pretty good reasons, if i could fine one roughly this price but with diablo cut out, i'd go for it.

Seeing as std edition diablo for xbox is 109, if they are discounting it to 50% in this bundle, then I guess im shopping for a $600 console, no games.

    • +2

You really do seem proud of your utterly clueless stance given your persistence in trolling with it. Can't wait for school holidays to be over to get rid of you.

        • +4

You're entitled to your opinion but you're trying to palm it off as fact.
I own both platforms, MS/Sony, I use both for different reasons, I never bought either for any reasons you mentioned.
I did buy a PS5 recently for GT7 and that was a regrettable decision.
You're just coming off as a butthurt fanboy that's upset that MS has a far more powerful console for the same money, and better value Gamepass.
I feel your plight though, I remember when I was in my early teens, my parents could not afford to buy me expensive things.

          • @[Deactivated]: I am completely entitled to my own opinion.

            • -1

@msjb: An opinion isn't facts as you're trying to pass it off as.

              Xbox is a dead horse.
Microsoft are still desperately trying to flog their consoles off.
Clearly the heavy discounting over Christmas did not move consoles.
Even the 7 year old Nintendo Switch is killing Xbox sales numbers.

^^ Opinions with nothing to back this up with, then you spew this bias.

PlayStation 5 all the way baaaby!

Why are you even posting in an Xbox thread if you behave like a primary schooler?

        • +3

You’re entitled to your opinion but don’t cry when people call you out on it.

    • +1

You are not getting Xbox games on your PS5, so get over it

      • -8

        Get over what?

      • +1

        The recent rumours suggest otherwise.

        • +2

Rumour of a 6 year old GAAS game, wow.

          • @sallan75: Alongside Hi-Fi Rush.

Other insiders and Devs are saying that some Xbox game studios new titles are being made with PS5, Switch 2 and Xbox Series in mind now.

            • @kazuyamishima: Microsoft is not going to forego revenue from games they can develop for other platforms.

But I do expect it to do what Sony has been doing with the PS for years - negotiate (or rather 'reserve') exclusive game 'extras' for games developed by studios they own, so that these 'extras' are only available on the Xbox platform.

            • @kazuyamishima: More BS, people believe any dipshit on Youtube now lol, point to me a single dev who said this that is from Microsoft not a Sony studio or some weird ass indie dev.

        • -1

          Suggest what exactly?

    • I have both, I play Xbox pretty much every week, PS5 I only play when a new Sony first party like Tlou/God of war comes out

      • +3

I have both and have gamepass ultimate and ps extra. haven't touched the ps5 for several months.

        • +1

I use PS5 for exclusives, have PS Deluxe, there is nothing worth playing.
PS5 controllers are woeful for FPS, triggers are much better for driving.

    • xbox series x is more powerful.

      • It's also stronker.

    • +3

Even the 7 year old Nintendo Switch

Nintendo is due for another GameCube/Wii U esque commercial flop. It’s their tradition.

      • +1

It's part of their product release strategy to take a bath.

    • +3

Didn’t Sony start discounting their console
      First?

    • +4

Ladies and gentleman, the typical PlayStation fanboy.

      • +1

Notice how on every single Xbox deal they jump here but you hardly see Xbox fanboys shit talking PS5 deals, speaks volumes.

    • +1

Less competition is always a good thing for consumers, right?

    • Playstation has always outsold Xbox though, nothing new and they've been growing and competing with PlayStation hardware even though their sales are lower. Also most console users are still on old Gen believe it or not, less reason to upgrade from Xbox One when you get Xbox games on PC already, but for PS exclusives you're forced to upgrade. Makes a lot more sense too as now Xbox doesn't technically have exclusives as they are available on PC. If it was based on performance and capabilities the Xbox wins. Most people with a PC if buying a console will buy PS5 due to already being able to access Xbox games. I think only people who buy Xboxes are console only and prefer Xbox exclusives or just have excess cash and will own all consoles just because they can.

      • -1

Who cares which plastic box sells more when you're a consumer? "wins"? It's not a race. It's like arguing over the market caps of Microsoft and Sony, it's so dumb

        • -1

That was referring to performance and hardware which is a fair point to make. When comparing similar products that you're deciding to purchase one will always "win" over the other. It's not that deep.

          • @lookingforadeal7: First thing you said was referring to sales, how one "outsold" the other. Quick google says Nintendo has outsold both xbox and PlayStation, as the Nintendo switch isn't as strong in performance as PlayStation and xbox. Overall, all things considered, who cares? Seems like arguing just for the sane of arguing over insignificant things. It's not that serious

    • this is wildly embarrassing for you, msjb

    • Why do you have this attitude when you're a consumer? Are you 12? Don't be a weirdo arguing about plastic boxes, just enjoy the games

  • Man I want Diablo 4 just on it's own :(

  • Was 559 with Amex and Microsoft deal

    • +2

Great news, grab one today in that case

      • -5

        What the heck! Grab two!

        • Should grab three. Please!

          • -6

@icewindxs: Maybe 3! Whatever it takes to actually sell these white elephants!

            • +1

@msjb: The irony being the PS5 looks like an elephant.

              • -1

@smartazz104: A fast moving consumer good elephant 🤣

              • -1

@smartazz104: PS5 is a horrible design, feels cheap too and takes up a lot of space compare to the more powerful and smaller Xbox SX.

    • Had to return mine due to using PayPal as the payment gateway. Amex refused to honour it

  • +4

I got this deal from JB last month. Now im level 48 sorcerer.. Absolute best game i have played in years, (coming from D1). never got into 2 or 3 but 4 is fantastic and with the controller works amazing

    • Shame the season is about to end

I'm 93 and don't think I can get the achievements from the last season tier in time. Getting 5 glyphs to level 21? FFS. Either that or solo Lilith and Duriel.. because nobody party plays so I can't get last minute help if I need it. I almost never see other players. Don't know how to run nightmare dungeons in a party :/

Tho I did just solo the pestilent world boss

      • what happens when season ends?

        • Your character gets moved from the season realm into the ordinary realm and all seasonal specific stuff like vampiric powers (and probably some aspects? But maybe not) disappear. The bonus titles and gear for the season also cannot be gotten, not that they are worth caring about

  • +1

Thanks, good deal. Bought in prep for GTA VI next year.

    • +1

If it does in fact ship on time. Also, there's an XBOX refresh coming mid-next year.

      • Should be fine. Managed to couple with a friends Target team member card for 5% extra. $616 is a thanks good deal.

        • Fantastic deal, keep an eye out for some game pass deals :)

      • +1

Assuming the rumors are true and its just an slim version with the same power and no disc drive the Series X looks like the smart buy.

        • +1

It’s a bit more than a rumour. It was a leak.
Plans can change though, so it’s not certain.

I’ll wait to get my new X version till later in the year. Prices have already dropped for these in the States in anticipation of the new system coming out supposedly later this year. (Only $349 USD in Walmart now, was $529).

The price will drop further here too, just gotta be patient lol

  • Diablo 4 to slow a pace for me.
Diablo 3 so much more fun to play

  • +3

Why are there always insecure, weirdo comments specifically posted in xbox deals, arguing over the sales of plastic boxes?

You don't see them in the Nintendo or PlayStation deals

    • +3

It's very weird right, I guess it's probably the younger audience trying to defend their own purchase choice. Becoming just as bad as politics and spam. All 3 systems are great have all have pros and cons, people can't really go wrong buying any of them.

  • For those with SmartSpending through their employer, you can combine with 8% off Catch.com.au gift card to get it for $598
