Well reviewed Office floor mat at a good price. Last time its been this low was in December 2022 according to camels.

I personally have one since 2022 and only now starting to show some cracks, and I dont gracefully plonk my cheeks down either

Stack with cashbacks of your choice, claim on tax if you WFH, giftcards etc.

I flattened mine out with some heavy books on the corners, after a few days it was flat as a schoolboy

Uhh, is lasting just over a year really a sterling endorsement? Sounds like direct-to-landfill plastic crap to me.

    • I weigh 100kg, unless i put a slab under me everything will take a toll over time

      • +8

Either way, I would suggest that about a year is pretty sad for what amounts to an inanimate object with no moving parts. We should expect better as consumers.

        • +2

Right on. Many of these new floor mats are too thin and don't last long before cracking. If anyone has links to a nice affordable (thick) version, please share.
Currently thinking of going with these: https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/product/B0BJW493FB/ or just get glass.

@noshopping: The IKEA one for $39 comes stiff and isn't rolled up. Been using it for almost 3 years now no signs of wearing yet. 85kg and a couple of hours a day. However the sides can angle upwards and people coming to you can injure their feet if not careful

          • @noshopping: Curious,

What are the benefits of office floor mat ?

            • @ATTS: Prevents chair's wheel from wearing out the carpets. I got one the moment my carpet was starting to show wear from the chair since I started working from home.

      • +2

Not really. I'm over 100kg and I've bought this mat and it's still going strong, no signs of cracks etc. since I bought it back in June 2021. :)

        • +1

I have same one and mine is going on 4 years with no issues. On carpet with soft underlay and users over the 105KG mark. Probably 8-9 hours use a day

      • I don't think these mats are really designed for home carpet. It's just too plush and therefore the thin plastic is the only thing really holding the weight of the castors.

I had a mat on my home office carpet and it cracked within weeks. I got a refund (cause they claimed it was suitable for all carpet) and just took it into work where we have much firmer, rubber backed carpet tiles, and it hasn't developed a crack since.

For my home office I now have a painted sheet of MDF with a chamfered edge as my carpet protector. Someone on here recommended a sheet of Pool Fence glass if you want that "clear" look.

Bought a couple of Kogan branded office floor mats back in 15' been rolling my chairs on either the carpet version or the tile version since then, no cracks or wear. been happy with them. though im only a light weight at around 75-80kg depending on the week and how much junk food i eat…

      • +1

Same here. Got one from kogan. Just coming up to a year so too early to tell on durability, but so far so good.

    • costco one lasted over 4 years before cracks

  • +1

I find the Kmart one to be fine

  • Ikea ones work well as well, which I've gotten off Marketplace for $10. RRP $39

After destroying a few mats, I use a sheet of thin plywood.

i used to buy these junk every few months because they broke.
i found that this works 200000000% better

it was actually a tip on here once before

    • isnt that at risk of cracking aswell? do you ever plonk down or are you super careful?

      • +1

mine is on my carpet, and my chair is on the glass, it shouldn't break at all as the whole glass is on the floor.

    • Does your office chair wheels go straight onto the glass, or do you cover it with something?

      • +2

nope chair rolls on the glass

  • how about if the floor is timber (those hybrid timber to be precise). what people use?

    • +1

Just change the chair casters to roller blade style wheels so they don’t scratch your floors

  • Cheaper and slightly bigger in size (120x100 cm) at Ikea $39

I've had good results with the Ikea ones.

Plonk your colon down on a KOLON.

I've given up on plastic carpet protectors and instead (based on a recommendation I think here) use carpet to protect my carpet… https://www.bunnings.com.au/products/flooring-tiles/carpet/c…

Shows no sign of wear in close to 2 years, much cheaper and it doesn't develop dips you can't escape from without rolling back into place and won't crack. I will never go back to plastic carpet protectors.

    • Totally agree. I bought a cheap Ikea rug, never looked back. And it feels nicer too.

    • Do you use multiple 50x50cm tiles or 1 big 1x1m tile?

I find with the plastic mats, the wheels will eventually make dents on the plastic and they never recover.

      • I'm using a 1x1m. I'd recommend this over a 50cm.
That as well as the plastic eventually cracking is why I moved to the carpet tile. very happy.

    • how do they stay connected? Or you only use only use one 1mx1mt?

      • just the single 1x1m tile. plenty of room for a desk chair

  • This one looks hard and rigid, quite prone to cracks and tears. I'm using the Kmart one which is quite flexible and soft, pretty good.

  • Thought I'd chime in with other carpet protecting options:

We have mid plush carpet and decided to use hybrid flooring planks on top. A box from bunnings, 9mm thick, was enough to do one chair (effectively $49 for a 2msq area). They work very well and match our decor.

Instead of wasting money on floor mats, buy these rubberised wheels and you won't need a mat again:

    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/196125745926

They are a little higher than the plastic wheels though which may raise some chairs a little too much.

    • Finally someone mentioned it!

My Yesdex developed a crack at the edge within the first few months, 100kg user with only like 3 - 4 hours daily average use.

I picked these up just before Christmas at $22.50 but check out the stars/reviews ratio.. 😅 4.8 with just under 54k reviews. I'm yet to put them on, waiting until my Yesdex completely fails. Hopefully it holds up before my move.

      • Do you know of which ones would work with IKEA chairs? Just checked the item description and it states that they aren't compatible. Sigh

        • +1

Yeah, read that last night unfortuntely.

I'd just try and Amazon search like "IKEA chair rubber office wheels" and go with the one that's tagged as an Amazon best seller and has "for IKEA" in the title and you should be safe, from my experience. If you sort by highest stars/reviews, you still want to double check description (or even user reviews) to make sure for the ones not labelled as a best seller.
