Stack with the 5% off GCX gift card deal for an all time low of $949.05

    • Could you price match this with another store that has a price beat discount such as Officeworks and then use that Gift card deal to purchase it for about $900. You may be able to price match the laptop with HN who may give a discounted price and then use the giftcards to get $50 off but I am aware of Ozbargain's distate for HN

Amazing deal OP. This one is two hundred dollars less than the touch screen i7 model as well as the same laptops from different sellers. I've heard built quality isn't good, fan is fairly loud and the laptop can get hot but for the price you paid and specs provided, it is an amazing laptop.

  • +1

Now that's a lovely screen, particularly for this price bracket.

    • It is a very nice screen. There are some issues with the laptop namely battery life, build quality, fans and how hot it can get but for $1000 or $950 through the GCX deal as @Look Up mentioned, it is an amazing deal. i already bought myself a laptop so it is bit too late to get this though.

      • Oh no doubt on those other fronts given Acer general reputation. Regarding the heat though I wonder how accessible it is to replace the thermal paste.

        • -1

The i7 model is really powerful and the H is meant for high powered graphics. For a laptop like this, I would rather the Ryzen 7 model be this price as it is better for laptop efficiency.

  • Backlight Keyboard + OceanGlass Touchpad + Fingerprint Scanner

Can't work out from the pics where fingerprint sensor is

    • nvm integrated into power button

      • +1

No worries. You can only figure out it's existence through reviews. It is mildly infuriating as I feel like I would accidentally shut down my laptop. I would much rather it be a seperate button or a certain command. On my 2020 Lenovo laptop, Fn + Spacebar is the command to turn on the backlit keyboard

        • If it's the same as my current Acer laptop, the power button is clicky, unlike the other keys.

Pressing it once doesn't do anything until you either hold it or configure it to whatever in the Acer software.

          • @itchy scratchy: Ahh, that is good then. If this is an issue, this could be a possible deal breaker for me. Was unware there was an Acer Software to configure stuff to. That is pretty cool.

        • Just a heads up you can always configure the power button on any windows laptop/desktop:
          https://www.bringingyourtechtolife.com/post/changing-what-yo…

One of the options is "do nothing" on short press, with long press always assigned to shut down.

I believe the Fingerprint scanner is on the Power button

  • Will the gaming prowess be less than the Ryzen 7 version? Any real world comparisons experiences?

    • +2

I would rather go for the Ryzen 7 version as it is more laptop efficient. This i7 is a H, meaning it meant for High-performance graphics. The Ryzen 7 is a U, meaning it is more battery efficient. I can't comment on the gaming prowess however there has been many posts on this laptop before. I recommend you check those comments there and some reviews as well.

      • +2

Not high performance graphics specifically, it just has higher performance with a higher power draw. The iGPU isn't very good.

        • I just copied it from the HP website where I found that piece of information. But yeah for a laptop like this that isn't meant for gaming, the Ryzen 7 model is probably better as it is more power efficient.

      • Ryzen 7 also has a H version fyi

  • I guess this model not as good as the other 780m one which can do better light gaming?

  • Is this touch screen

  • +2

how does this compare to the ryzen 5 model?

    • -1

This one is better in terms of raw specs and power however the ryzen5 is a power saving model so that might appeal to you. Ryzen 5 is better for school and work uses e.g. taking notes, doing web searches, writing essays and the occasional light to medium gaming. It will generally have a better battery life and is more ideal for the average user. It also won't get as hot and the fans won't be running as hard as Acer's build quality is known to be one of the worst. The i7 is good for gaming and more intensive purposes however it will have a lower battery life, will get hotter and the fans will be running more often. Both models have the same battery I believe.

      • i was originally looking at a asus vivo book, is $100 cheaper but the oled, bigger battery is worth the extra i think. Also the postage estimate is to late for me, as i postage here is absolutely cooked. so pick up is my only option and ow has the ryzen 5 for the same price as the i7

      • You can balance the power to save battery when you want to?

        • I was unaware of this. I don't own either of the laptops so I cannot comment properly. Before buying my current laptop, I did quite a bit of research on both the Intel and the Ryzen models and found that Ryzen models were slightly better in general. How do you balance the power to save battery?

          • @NotReallyaMoneySaver: Windows has an option for battery adjustment. Not sure how much the saving. Phones also have battery option but only the saver mode.

            • @Bii: Ahh that one. I thought you were talking about something else. The savings might not me much especially with a fairly power hungry cpu.

    • But why you compare i7 to ryzen 5?

      • can't wait for post, and they ryzen 5 is the only 1 in stock and its under a grand

      • Because both of them are very similar laptops, with very minor differences other than cpu and both are the same price. They are both $1k so it is reasonable for OP to compare the two laptops as there is hardly a difference other than cpu and other minor things.

  • Possible for Officework to price beat ebay with code?

  • I need to buy an ipad for my kid, but spending $1000 for an air, is crazy against this thing. Unfortunately will still need an ipad but it hurts.

    • Why do you need an air? Is the standard iPad not sufficient enough?

      • Cool kids these days

        • I still don't understand why the air is needed. It is such an uncomfortable price. It uses the M1 chip and comes with standard 64gb. Depending on usage, 64 might not be enough if it is for school, work, art, taking notes etc. So then you need to buy 256gb for an extra $250. So now you have a $1250 M1 256gb iPad Air. At that point, you can just buy yourself an M1 Macbook 256gb for about the same price as the Ipad Air. So now you need to decide whether you get the Macbook which isn't touch screen or get the iPad air and then buy one of those Keyboard case things, which is another $250. With that extra $250, you could buy more storage on an M1 Macbook and get 512gb. I am going on a massive tangent.

I hope Binglee can do a similiar deal on the Ryzen version, would pay 100 more for the much better graphic performance.

    • I would too. Ryzen 7 is far more optimised to the Acer laptop than Intel could especially considering the Intel processor is far more power demanding.

    • be patient.

  • Is this plastic or metal hinge

    • It isn't stated anywhere but reviews say the hinge is very stiff and requires two hands to open, if that helps. Sorry I couldn't help as much

      • requiring 2 hands mean that the hinge is not balanced

        • Is that much of an issue? I have heard reviewers talk about the one hand test but I always thought was for ease of use or convenience and didn't have much of a purpose other than that.

          • @NotReallyaMoneySaver: i own a gaming laptop in which luckily the hinge is balanced enough. i too thought stiff hinges wont be an issue since i mostly use my laptop at home…

then at work, i was given the upgrade to a developer-grade laptop, a HP Zbook which was actually quite expensive ($4k-$5k) and the i literally had to 'pry' open the laptop everytime i take it out of the bag it was ridiculous which made me realise how annoying it would be to have a stiff hinge after a while especially if you move locations a lot…

            • @meong: Oh wow! I thought it played an important role and affected how many times the hinge could be moved or something. The laptop I bought (not this one) fails the one hand test, which I can kind of understand why it is mildly infuriating.

      • sounds as good as it gets, imo. macbooks are way to loose hinges, basically in a couple of years hinge will lose all grip and just flys open when tipped upside down

  • pretty good screen and cpu for the price.

  • missed it …that’s what happens when you sleep :-(

    • Still 2 available

  • For everyone that received the laptop do you find that it gets throttled heavily and the laptop runs super hot? Can you share your multiscore R23 score in performance mode plugged in? Even with minimum test duration off I only got 13121. No where near the benchmark score online of around 20k.

    Thanks.
