  Are there any cheap drives that are fast these days? All my 'fast' drives are almost a decade old.

    In terms of speed, I purchased a patriot ultra something a couple of years ago as it had fast read writes. Real world of about 250Mb/s write. It's pretty good. But the other day I got the cheap patriot 5 pack which was insane value. Did a test last night and they are very respectable for $7 64gb drives, about 85Mb/s write.
    But if speed is what you want. Can't go past a t7. 750Mb/s writes average.

  I had some of these drives. Every single one of them wouldn't work any more within a few months of purchase even but they were only used a few times each. I think it might have fried itself to death. And i only used it a few times. So i gave up with it. I don't touch these any more. These extremely over heat if used at the full speed. That's why it's hot to the touch if you transfer large files to it at the full speed. It is literally frying itself. So i wouldn't touch these even if it was free.

    that really sucks I was looking forward to getting one of these "all metal case" drives when there was a good deal, because the loop on my 128GB sandisk is made from hollow brittle thin plastic and shattered. welp looks like I should avoid these samsung all metal USB drives as well.

      Yeah i see that was probably the Bar Plus the person was referring to. These Samsung Bar Plus flash drives sure are fast but tend to be unreliable over time. Because as i said i think they get so hot internally that it fries itself. Especially in the hot Queensland summer temperature here.
