I'll preface by saying I was reluctant making this post as we all know the Super variants are launching soon (with the 4080S launching on the 31/1) and the smart thing to do is to wait for the launch and reviews before making a decision but hear me out…

Looking at the specs of the 4080S it seems like we might see a 5-7% improvement vs vanilla 4080 so really we're all waiting on the Super variant for the price cut and not the performance improvement. The US MSRP is $999 so doing a direct conversion and slapping on the GST we should expect to see the cards launch at ~$1650 however if you were to actually go on NV's website NV being NV have the Australian MSRP listed at $1870 which is trash. This makes me wonder what price the 4080S will actually be launching at in Australia especially with the usual limited supply at launch (and potentially moving forward due to supposedly supply issues with production capacity shifted towards AI). Now one might say well I'll just wait until the price and supply settles later in the year and see what the mid year sales are like however by that time we may be getting quite close to the launch of the 50 series and you might be back to waiting again. IMHO the Super variants only really makes sense if you're planning to snag one at/near launch.

I will say though the 4070 Ti Super does look like the card to get and may be the one to wait for if that's all the performance you need.

This is all hypothetical of course who knows the card may launch at $1500 and I am the idiot lol.

I supposed they knew they couldnt charge as much if it was called a 4080ti and it the market for it in china is much bigger so we missed out. Would have been overpriced anyway. Even if it was replaced the 4080 msrp i probably still wouldnt have paid that much . But at least it would have been less of a joke lol

  • i remember thinking gpu prices would come down after the mining craze, sykeee

    • Still better than when a used 1660 Super would go for $500+

    lol pretty ridiculous.
While ordering it was $1649, while making payment my invoice shows and charged $1890. Now price back to $2079???
sent e-mail for cancel the entire order (ordered ssd and 1000w psu as well….)
hopefully not too much hassel with this

Good, you saved yourself $1649 :)

    • Seems like it was a weekend only sale as per front page (I never actually looked on the front page when I first posted the deal)…hopefully maybe they'll honour the price for you?

Expired already. Any chance of it being an accidental website update, foreshadowing prices to come, which is fixed first thing Monday morning ? Or do BPC run flash sales

I think it was actually a weekend only 4080 sale I saw it on their front page later last night…doesn't look like they've updated the front page just yet either still showing it there (but yea the prices have gone back up).

cool, probs an early toe in the water, feel the market out. wonder if they sold many.

        • That was what I thought actually before realising it was a weekend flash sale; like the sale price for the base models at BPC were a good $100 cheaper than anyone else that were also having sales on those cards leading to me think that's the sort of price they'll be when the Super cards come out which I'd predict to be at the very least $1700+ even if it does come cheaper than NV's listed MSRP.

      it's back on again.

      • Yeah cool thanks I called them about their webpage splash that didnt reflect on the product page - said they need to fix it earlier

So I bought the 4080 gaming x slim for $1650

    Here are my thoughts
-4070 ti super going to be $1500 with a bit lower performance ref-https://videocardz.com/newz/nvidia-geforce-rtx-4070ti-super-is-8-faster-on-average-than-rtx-4070ti-in-3dmark-tests

-$150 extra is not that much more for the extra grunt.

-gamble the 4080s won't be a huge jump as the major seller is the $200 less msrp

All risks worth taking in my opinion

    • Yea I went with the Gaming X Slim as well when I posted the deal couple weekends ago; looking at website MSRP for the Super I can't see prices dropping much further and no point paying extra for the Super when the expected performance increase is going to be minimal. Could hold off for sales but that's going to be later in the year again and by that point you'd almost be better off waiting for the 50 series and before you know it another year's gone. Not really worth it to me personally for the possibility to save maybe another $100-200 later down the line.

On that note the new 4080 drives my 3440x1440 monitor beautifully. Frame generation actually works really well (coming from someone who was a skeptic); maxed out AW2 and CP2077 with DLSSQ and PT turned on and it runs smooth.

      • Yep - can't disagree with a word of that.

Mine should arrive tomorrow, should be a huge upgrade.

        • Centrecom has the Galax one for $1569, so tempting…wonder how that brand compares to MSI.

@BlackCaviar2016: There is a YouTube video where someone made a tier list comparing the different 4080’s based on cooling/noise/components used etc, having said that I’m sure the Galax is fine.

I only went with the MSI for the aesthetics as well as slightly smaller cooler haha.

        • You’re in for a treat.

Alan Wake 2 with path tracing and HDR is just so stunning to look at, just started a new run and I’m getting consistent 80 FPS with the game maxed out at 3440x1440 using frame generation at Cauldron Lake area at the start.

  • PNY is now $1729.
