Oppo A79 5G 4GB/128GB (Redeem Bonus Oppo Enco X Earbuds & 33W Fast Charger) $369, A98 5G $449 Delivered @ Oppo AU

160

Had a few Oppos and this deal seems reasonable. Decent specs for the price and comes with Oppos 36 month fluid guarantee.

Managed to also spot the free encore X Bluetooth headphones and upgraded fast charger if you purchase before 1/2/24, according to the promotions page of their online store!

Whatever that means, for those looking for an inexpensive mobile, this might be worth looking at!

A98 5G also available for $449

Thought I'd stepped back in time when reading a new phone has 4GB RAM.
That was fine a couple of years back but not now.

    • Yeah tend to agree.

With that said I think their own product page said the X3 had 6GB RAM & 128GB memory…..which they don't even build. Confirmed when it arrived it's actually 8GB & 256GB, but if they spent money on their website accuracy they probably recoup it via higher prices.

Agreed, 4GB just isn't enough unless you have very basic needs. There are cheaper phones with a lot more RAM

I have the encore X from a similar promotion ram with the X3 before Christmas. Quite good headphones for free, noise cancelling works reasonable well for an in ear design and the battery life is quite good.

I do find them a little too easy to accidentally skip tracks when trying to realign them in the ear.

Probably worth $79 in real world value, ain't nobody paying $299 RRP!

The "36 month fluency guarantee" is interesting, bascially saying your phone is guaranteed to feel non laggy for 3 years? Not even sure how that works.

All I can say is my China Huawei mate 20 pro was the ultimate lag free, true all day battery and awesome camera phone I ever had.

after 3 years it forgets the english language

Any reason to get this phone over the g54 which has has better specs for $234?

    • Not from what I can tell

    • Get G54 mate, been using it for a week. No lag and quiet snappy

      • How's the camera?

        • +1

Camera is okayish. Wouldn't expect extra ordinary quality

        • Standard budget phone camera.

If you want an awesome camera you need to look at flagship phones like the Galaxy S or iPhone - all the budget handsets have lesser cameras.

  • Anyone knows what's the go with their Find X5 series? Only the Lite version available on their website, not available at HN and JB… It's also hard to find on eBay.

    • +1

I think they're stopping production, X6 has been out in china only for a while, and I think the X7 is due soon.

Hopefully we get those here again, otherwise there's the Reno series.

      • +1

Yeah I've just seen the X7 video a couple days ago and the size of the camera is just wow… I bet the price will be WOW as well 😀

        • Yep LOL, especially with the snapdragon 8 gen 3 as well, it will be far from cheap

      • looking to replace my x5 lite but no stock in the store and no killer deal on the reno ..and the x5 lite was under $500 which sort of set the benchmark for features per $ in Oppo range.

        • The Reno10 seems fairly similar to the X5 Lite spec-wise, not sure about the camera though but yeah cheapest I saw was $537 not too long ago.

I'd drop a bit more for the flagship phone but $500 is the sweet spot for the midrange one for sure.

  • Damn just recommend a friend to buy from JBHIFI for $619 last weekend. Not happy JBHIFI.

    • +1

That is a steep price, the A98 isn't even that much. The Reno 10 can be had for $680 after a $70 gift card promotion JB have.

If they bought it tell them to go back and show that price, JB may have some price matching post sale policy.

Reluctant to try another Oppo phone after buying the A52 in 2020. Absolute garbage. Laggy AF on certain apps, and overall crap.

    • I had the realme X3 from 2020-2023 (Oppo subsidiary) and a Oppo X2 same time period.

Both were great and never lagged until end of 2023, still wasn't that noticeable.

Using X5 and Reno 10 now and no complaints so far.

Sometimes a Linux install and killing off all the bloatware can bring them back to snappy but YMMV.

      • Which Linux OS would you recommend?

        • Never done it myself so can't help. Discussion on various online communities might help you, perhaps try Reddit?

I see a bit of guidance on the retro gaming areas I look at, which cover using an older/inexpensive mobile as a emulator hand held. Lots of Linux discussion there.
