Nice one Op, I need a new 12 month sim for my Gumtree account, winning.

From my experience, the most likely leak is actually delivery companies. Have changed my number (which took days to do btw), spam started once I started buying stuff online with the new number. Have not generated spams from secondhand market places so far.

  • Thank you! I use these sort of things for my NBN failover.
    Appreciate the deal :)

EDIT: Actually looking deeper, I don't think it's valid for 365 days like you said.

†New customers only. For use in AUS. Limit of 3 per customer. Price valid till 6/2/24, ongoing is $35/28 days/42GB. Activate by 6/2/24 to get 80GB for first 3 renewals. Auto renews every 28 days. Download speed caps apply. 5G & 4G available in selected areas. See amaysim.com.au/35 for details.

EDIT Again: Perhaps not…. website seems to suggest you get to pick which way you go?

  • Good price to pay for a burner number for online sign ups, real estate agents, car salesmen etc.

    • The first one, I get.

The other two examples, how are they getting it, unless you're giving it? Don't!

      • Car salesmen have baked it into their test drive process. Real estate agents still ask for it for "covid contact tracing".

        • +1

Sure, they ASK for it, but ive never had one 'test dial' me on the spot.

Do people give out their real personal details just because a private company asks? Thats madness to me.

          • @MasterScythe: I've had a car salesmen do it, made me acknowledge terms on my phone.

            • @iMagoo: Thats insane. Wow. I'd walk.
No car is worth that much to me, and I'm a collector car guy…

Seems insane to think they'd lose sales from people like me, or even my father, who only has a land line, though. I bet they have other ways.

If not, Id wanna see some comprehensive data handling contracts. Make sure their database is hosted locally and such.
I dont trust how most non IT folk handle data (this sort of thing is literally my job, haha).

Last thing i want is spam calls or txts, never had one yet, had the same number for 25 years.

  • Can you choose esim for this?

    • -3

I dont think so. Amaysim doesn't have eSIM for any plan, AFAIK

      • +1

        Sorry, they do have.
        I missed with Boost

    • +4

Yes, they do - I've got an Amaysim eSim in my phone right now

      • Is there a way to get esim for existing amaysim numbers? I couldn't find anything g on their website. Cheers

  • they used to have $30 pack for $10 quite often (both WW and Coles). However, in the past 1.5 months, I have been closely monitoring their price, and haven't seen that deal.
$35 pack for $10 was also at WW about 4 weeks ago.

  • Just on time, I'm using my last data sim. Thanks OP

  • I am coming to Oz in April, and looking at porting from Aldi to Amaysim when I get there.

If I buy this starter pack now, can I

    • activate and port when I arrive, and receive $35 credit (I realise I won't get the bonus data, which I don't need anyway)

    • use the PAYG credit to buy a 10GB/$22 plan (hopefully for $10 if available again)

    • retain the balance in PAYG, for use within 365 days

    • Responses on Whirlpool indicate the above should work OK, except no discount when I buy a plan.

    • If you're not in oz at the moment, how do you plan to buy it? I think you'd probably need to get a mate/relative to get it for you first?

activate and port when I arrive, and receive $35 credit (I realise I won't get the bonus data, which I don't need anyway)

      Yes

use the PAYG credit to buy a 10GB/$22 plan (hopefully for $10 if available again)

Assume so but if I'm understanding your comment, are you saying even if it's discounted for new customers, you won't be able to access the discount?

retain the balance in PAYG, for use within 365 days

You mean of what remains right? I think so.

  • Hey guys, 365 days expiry does it mean if i don't use the $35 credit for the whole year then the number will stay put? Then we can charge the sim to keep the number?
Main purpose is to receive texts from oversea mainly.

    • +2

      Yes

But if you know you're absolutely not gonna use it at all, even though you're paying $14 for $35, you might as well save $4 and pay $10 for $10 which is the minimum you can get the 365 days validity for

  • Anyone know if this can be used as a recharge.?
