Why did you revoke your upvote?

    • +5

It seems to automatically upvote when I post deals sometimes. Rather not vote on my own deal ๐Ÿ˜‚

      • +4

Yeah it should normally upvote automatically. Yeah, lol, someone negged us both ๐Ÿ˜‚

        • Messing with us ๐Ÿ˜‚ have a good night!

@staz: I usually just think that it's people with fat fingers pressing the wrong button

      • +1

The user who posted the deal automatically give the deal +vote.

You upvote to show that you believe it is a deal, otherwise you wouldn't post it right?

        • +2

Makes sense now that you point it out. Thought it was implied by posting the deal ๐Ÿ˜Š

        • -1

This is the correct explanation. Why down vote!
Only when you're associated with the shop automatic+vote won't happen.

      Glad I could help

  • compatible with nintendo switch

But the dock has usb A ports.
Am i supposed to plug it into the console directly in handheld mode?
    That doesnt seem ideal.

This may be more suitable for you at the same price.

  • From memory this does not have realtek chipset for the ethernet.

    • What does that mean in practical terms?

      • +1

According to here, this UGreen adapter uses AX88179 chipset, but unsure if it's the later AX88179a revision.

Realtek RTL8153/RTL8156 supports CDC-ECM which is compatible with most platforms including Apple platforms. AX88179a supports this protocol as well but the original AX88179 doesn't, meaning you'll likely need drivers to make it work, especially on Macs. And installing 3rd-party drivers (even though they're properly signed and approved by Apple) on Mac is not exactly a good experience.

Not mentioning CDC-ECM dongles generally uses less system resources as they offload many operations to the chipset itself instead of CPU. The newer CDC-NCM works even better (like in most 2.5GbE dongles with RTL8156) but likely need a newer OS (CDC-NCM may not work in OS < Windows 10, for example).

Some cheap dongles still uses old AX88179 (like this old deal) chipset.

        • Awesome, thanks for taking the time to provide such a detailed explanation, it's really appreciated!! ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ˜‰

        • Mine arrived today - uses the later AX88179a revision

Plugged in and it just worked on Ubuntu. Iperf results show it reaches peak speeds for gigabit too.

  • I want one of these for my phone. USB-C to gigabit ethernet.

BUT I want it to charge the phone as well.

There are plenty of 100 Mb/s ones with a power in connection that recharges the phone. But my 5G connection is a lot faster than 100 Mb/s. And the gigabit ones don't charge the phone at the same time.

    • Wirelessly charge the phone while you use this.

      • Phone doesn't do wireless charging.

I wonder if a USB C Hub with both PD Power and Gigabit Ethernet solve your use case?

      https://www.amazon.com.au/UGREEN-Networking-Ethernet-Charginโ€ฆ

I'm guessing it will depend on both the hub and the model of phone you are using, as some may prioritise PD over data transfer.

  • good price๏ผŒ almost the same as buying from Taobao

Isnโ€™t it better to get one that also has some usb ports along with Ethernet as well? Iโ€™ve got one of those and they are moser useful as you have additional inputs/outputs along with the Ethernet

Can this be used on S23+ to somehow hotspot the 5G data to PC / Laptop (wired hotspot).

    • I think it's possible, i've got an S23 and i see a ethernet tethering option in the settings.
      Have you tried usb tethering?

    • Can this be used on S23+ to somehow hotspot the 5G data to PC / Laptop (wired hotspot).

That's what I wanted to do.

At the moment I USB tether my 5G phone to a GL.iNet travel router, then connect everything to that. But that means I have the phone acting as a router connected to another router that everything connects to, including an ethernet hub. I don't really need two routers in series. The phone could be ethernet tethered - Android has that option now - directly to the ethernet hub and be the router for the LAN.

The only trouble is that when I look for products to do that, like the one in this thread, and look for some assurance of generic Android compatibility, I find I have two choices. Either a USB to 100 Mb/s ethernet adapter that has power in that charges the phone at the same time, or a gigabit one that doesn't. And if I'm going to leave my home LAN operating like this I want gigabit and I need the phone to be being recharged.

      • Could you not just use a powered usb hub then plug a gigabit ethernet to usb into one of its usb ports?

For a little bit more it might be worthwhile futureproofing with 2.5Gbe instead
