      scoot: via Singapore
air asia x: via Kuala Lumpuur
      Jetstar: direct but low cost
      virgin: don't fly to Seoul
      xiamenair: via Xiamen
      garuda indonesia: via Jakarta

None of those are comparable to a non-stop on Korean Air.

scoot would be nice, you get to go to singapore. doesn't that have the worlds best airport. i would love to visit that, and i can do that for free and cheaper. killing 2 birds with one stone. you reckon that would be better?

Not at all - BNE-ICN is around 9.5hrs.

BNE-SIN is around 7hrs, then you have the stopover, SIN-ICN is another 6 hours. If you have plenty of time to spare, sure - but if you're going to Seoul, why would you want to at least double your time travelling?

          • @Flying Ace: i have time,
going on holidays and consider going there and coming back a travel day. not much is going to happen so i think it would be perfect. i don't really see myself going to Singapore for any reason, but i would really love to stopover to that amazing airport i see on social media. has a free movie theatre, swimming pool, etc…

@Hugh G Rection: I've stopped over at the Changi airport twice… for a shorter and longer stop / change planes. Sure it has got cool things, but it is still an airport and you still have to do airport things like wait in lines and go through security and just wait around - then when you consider how long you are there, what that does to your jetlag / start and end times of your trip, i'd still much rather had a direct flight particularly somewhere like Korea and Japan that can be reached within normal waking hours in a similar time zone.

If you want to go to Changi, make it a proper stop over and get out for a couple of days and go to Singapore if you have so much time to add. That's what I wished I did after only seeing the airport because I also probably wouldn't do a dedicated trip there, but it too has many cool things to see, and that allows you to keep your flight duration within your normal waking hours in a similar time zone by picking suitable time flights for each leg. Although it makes more sense as a stop to break up a long haul route such as to say Europe rather than to go to a nearby country though.

Then I went to Japan direct 9 hours (whereas a lot of people I know have done cheap flights with stopovers in various other Asian centres to reach Japan too for 15+ hours plus 3-4 hours at the start and 2 hours at the end for transfers). Perfect timed flight mid morning, so arriving 3 hours prior for breakfast at the airport, leisurely paced through, flight until just before dinner time, dinner at airport then transfer to hotel. Massive difference in tiredness and effort particularly for a shorter trip where you don't have time to recover for a day.

@Hugh G Rection: You should actually visit Singapore, it makes big cities in Australia look like they're from a third world country in comparison. Even 2 full days while on your way to somewhere else would be okay, it's not super touristy but some cool things to see. I did it on my way back from Thailand. Exchange rate not great at the moment but not a big deal for a short trip, still cheaper to eat out then Australia even with the poor exchange rate.

@Hugh G Rection: Fair enough - but it makes little sense to do that on a route to Seoul - Singapore is well out of the way.

    • Thanks for the heads up. I have corrected the small typo.

To filter all those out, in the left hand side select "0 stops (direct)" from the filters.

About $70 more to book direct via Korean air though?

How long do people recommend in South korea? Also seems that this is about the best price for these flights yeah? Maybe a bit cheaper direct with Jetstar, but still Jetstar and add baggage and seat selection etc.

Edit: seems about $150 cheaper per person to fly Jetstar direct, even with the plus pack added on for meals and seats and baggage

I spent ten days and only did Seoul and Busan. There's plenty to see and do, it's just not as popular as Japan as far as tourism goes.

  • Is this a good time of year to visit?

Maybe avoid July and August as that's rainy season based on climate data.

i wish i was still single to take this offer. :(

We poor Melb-Seoul folk have no choice but to transfer. One direct flight per week is embarrassing.

For those thinking about going in June or July, the weather is horrible. Very hot and very humid.
