Pepsi and Coke Price Increased up to 41% since Few Days Ago

Has anyone else noticed this increase?

2L Pepsi is now $4.50 when it was $3.10-$3.20 (depending on location)
2L Coke is now $4.90 when it was $3.60-$3.65 (depedning on location)

Not sure what's happened, if a sugar tax or something has been implemented or a shortage?

Prices changed yesterday

The good thing about this they are not forcing us to buy, in short, we have options.

    1. Start planting rice, potatoes
    2. Raise cows (wagyu please)
    3. Plant veggies (yuck)
    4. Go to pub and drink leftover cokes.
    5. Learn to eat grass

Perhaps they have gone back to the original coke recipe with the 'good' stuff in it.

    THANKS ALBAMA

    Never buy it.

    Never will.

    Don't care.

You should chat with modais02. They've got some theories as to why this has probably happened (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/829029)

    • modais02 was probably on a different type of 'coke'.

No sign of a long overdue sugar tax: Australia is a sizable sugar producer.

    Grow some coffee trees,
Make tea concentrate, add all them coke trees to brew your own.
    Get used to cold showers!

I only drink that crap once or twice a week in can or postmix form.

Better to just cut it out of your diet.

  • I've noticed a lot of these temporary price increases before fake "sales" since they changed to digital price tags, shows why they really did it, so they can price gouge better.

  • Good, hopefully people will stop drinking this garbage.

    • I sincerely hope not! I have a significant investment in semaglutide

  • +2

    Actually not a bad thing.

    • Taking the coke out of Coke was far worse

  • +1

If it was a sugar tax it wouldn't include Pepsi max. I like Pepsi max, good caffeine boost.

    • -3

Thanks to the Greens, the sugar tax has been broadened into the sweetener tax. Didn’t see that coming!

      • +1

I wonder who it is that's downvoting you?

        https://greens.org.au/vic/news/media-release/new-sugar-tax-s…

Especially given it's literally a campaign platform they promote themselves on:

"We have a major health crisis on our hands with over a quarter of Australian adults and children overweight or obese," said Senator Di Natale who was a general practitioner and public health specialist before he entered politics."

"30% of the added sugar kids consume comes from sweetened drinks, contributing to weight gain and a risk of diabetes, in particular for kids.
"Sugary sweetened beverages are a major contributor to increasing rates of childhood obesity and if this trend continues our children may be the first generation to have a shorter life expectancy than their parents."

Sugar tax is great, obesity is getting worse and taxpayers have to foot the bill for self inflicted illnesses

    • Drugs use is worse and zero sugar doesn't really create an obesity problem.

      • Zero-sugar drinks cause cancer.

    • -3

Obesity is a mental health and lifestyle problem which taxation is not going to solve. You may as well apply that logic to food in general - just tax food so people eat less, right? That'll teach the fatties.

taxpayers have to foot the bill for self inflicted illnesses

      They are also taxpayers, no?

How do you know that you contribute more and take less than someone who is obese? Good friend of mine is most definitely clinically obese, and can whack down a whole tomahawk steak for dinner. Earns 7 figures and I'm sure has contributed more than whatever he'll cost as a fatty in the healthcare system.

      • +2

Obesity is a major burden of disease. Your anecdotal friend that you want to defend doesn't change that.

      • Obesity isn't a mental health problem, it's a lack of personal responsibility problem.

  • +1

2 years ago you could get it for 2 dollars a bottle. now its 2 x the price

  • +2

Fantastic news that it's gone up.

The stupid tax on this glorified toilet cleaner is the gift that keeps on giving.

  • +1

Interesting 1.25 Ltr Coke is currently on special at $1.50 at my local supermarket.

It clearly shows the markup of the big supermarkets on this crap.

  • +3

    Don't buy = save 100%

  • Just checked Coles online in SA and 2L Pepsi Max has gone from $3.20 to $3.40.

  • As soon as they introdued 10 cent bottle returns in Victoria the supermarkets immediately increased prices pepsi 2lt went from $3 to $3.20 and 24 packs of water from $6.50 to $9.50 but as far as i know there is no new tax levied on the supermarkets to justify this increase. Just cashing in?

  • "New every day low price" $3.50 in a couple of weeks? "Was $4.50 (Feb 2024)"

  • +1

I'm that stupid shopper who buys as soon as 40%+ off sticker is visible 😔 and never cared about price. Time to shoot myself

  • +1

I appreciate companies that contribute to maintaining the overall health of the public.

  • +2

It makes me glad I only drink water.

  • Simple Economics - Supply Vs Demand etc.

I do enjoy Pepsi Max but always buy on special e.g. Amazon has the 1.25L bottles at $19.44 delivered if you have Prime.

However, my consumption has been reduced considerably (by 75%?) since purchasing a fridge with a built in cold water dispenser. It holds 2.5L and is just so handy to get a quick cold drink from it. Were my Mother still alive she'd have put white in there instead…

I wish my income (or savings interest rates) went up by 41% in one year. The gap fee a doctor charges me went up by 40% this year too. Not happy about this one bit.

The government should pass legislation to prevent prices of essential goods and services increasing at a faster rate than inflation.

    • +3

he government should pass legislation to prevent prices of essential goods

Pepsi and Coke are essential goods?

    • +1

In what crazy world is coke an essential?

    • The current government are the one's causing the inflation though……….

Also, in what universe is coke ever considered an essential good or service ?

  • For healthy alternative try Sanpellegrino with ice and good quality balsamic vinegar!

    • wow I'm a big sparkling water drinker but Ive never heard of this combo. Sounds weird ngl

  • +2

    It's unhealthy drink anyway !

  • Stopped drinking this since i was 18.

  • I only ever buy on special and switched over to Pepsi as I've felt Coke brands have changed the formula (around the same time for the Lift rebrand).

I've only bought the 1.25lt bottles ~ $1.80 (pepsico), on special.

Only gripe is 7-up isn't that great.

  • NCIS: Soda

  • +1

Good. Stop drinking that crap. It's unhealthy and severely shortens your life, destroys your teeth, makes you fat etc
Drink water instead. If you miss the fizz, drink sparkling water, and add a slice of lemon if you like. Best thing ever.

All the people jumping onto this thread to simply say "I dont care/I dont drink this crap/just drink water" etc really have nothing better to do apparently. But yes I definitely noticed this spike in price at Woolworths (my usual shop). We buy enough coke zero each week in my household that it made me consider trying Coles instead as they still have $3.65 2L bottles….

(LA cola remains $2 for 2L at woolworths)

    • All the people jumping onto this thread to simply say "I dont care/I dont drink this crap/just drink water" etc really have nothing better to do apparently.

So, the only people allowed to have an opinion on this thread are addicted to Pepsi and Coke?

      Fair enough.

    • +3

We buy enough coke zero each week in my household that it made me consider trying Coles instead

      Perhaps switch to drinking water?

    • Drink water instead.

  • Cartel pricing

  • No thanks,I wouldn’t have them for free :)

  • Switching to the aldi cola (no sugar personally) is how I saved, $1.15 for 1.25l bottle, shame they don't do 2l

It's odd to start but now I love it and I swear it's the cola that any premix drinks use.

  • +1

Introduction of recycling program coincided with these astronomical price rises of soft drink.

  • +1

I haven't had soft drinks in years, lost a lot of weight and I'm much healthier for doing so. Drinking water is practically free, and really good for you (I rarely buy bottled water).
I can't believe I used to drink this crap but I understand how addictive it can be. Perhaps a price rise is a good thing.

  • -1

RBA should read this to raise .50% cash rate next week.

  • Yes the price has gone up at Coles and Woolies but I notice in an IGA store here in Perth that the price was still $3.20 and also at Aldi… Not sure for how long?

Also noticed that this week at Woolies they have the 1.25L on sale at $1.80 which is cheaper per litre than the regular 2Lt/$3.60 so just ordered 30 or so bottles and will go pick them up at the store tomorrow…

See how long they last me, but buying in bulk now might be an idea….

Some scum bags are always increasing the prices….

  • I know I should drink a lot less Pepsi Max (and at a push Coke no Sugar if Pepsi Max isn't offered) - but I've been drinking way too much for the last 20 or so years. The increasing price and realising that I'm not an invulnerable 20 year old any more (not saying I was invulnerable but you feel you are), will hopefully mean I make some changes this year.

  • Don't think I've had the bottles but has the formula changed? I noticed that they taste very different - almost more superficial than what they were previously

  • +1

It's a good thing. Don't drink that rubbish.

    Drink water.

  • I've not noticed a change. My local Coles is still $3.65 for a 2L Coke and $3.20 for a 2L Pepsi Max.

  • Good, I hope they tax the fat's with more price increases on garbage food & drink, too.

Soda water + cranberry or lemon juice or similar is great for when you feel like that thirst quench. Just avoid sodastream an Israel-based company :P

  • +1

Was at the Servo the other day. Bloke complained to attendant about price petrol whinged and whinged about premium petrol being over $2 litre.

Then handed over can of sugar water which cost closing in on $20 litre and didn’t say thing.

    Incredible stupidity and so ironic

  • +1

good so fatties stop drinking it, although i dont think its gonna work. fatties will be fatties.

  • Coffee prices at cold express also went up on the same day. My reg coffee from $2.50. now up to $3 :(

My mechanic just increased his price for a service from $230 to $280 too 😡

  • To make up for the boycotting of Coke and Pepsi.

1.25L Coke @ $1.25ea, Adelaide's Finest Pasadena or Frewville. [SA]
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/830192

  • Coke varies on special in Cole’s and Woolworths widely for 1.25L and 2L on shelves.

From 1/2 price or buy 2 for reduced price etc.

I have noticed no real shift upwards.

600ml Coke I’ve noticed a shift up especially at service stations. Most service stations offer 2 for a special price…. But this 2-for price has steadily increased to about $7.50+ now.

    Source: anecdotal

EDIT: some Subways offer a special price on 2-for 600ml cokes…. It is not always posted. Ask.
