Only consideration is that this stuff does have an expiry date where the glue gets all muffed up. Buy if you'll actually use it soon.

Book my electrical cashies asap, got it.

      • +7

No way dude, unless the expiry is twenty plus years or you've had fake Nitto.

I've got rolls that are more than ten years old and they are stlll as clean as new & sticky as hell.
This stuff is fantastic. Stretchy, sticky and with subtle branding.
        Black is my favourite.

Bro where I live is hot as shit. I don't know about you.

I will send you the roll that has literally melted in my cupboard.

Only consideration is that you've been eating the the red tape

NITTO Vinyl adhesive tape No.21 DATASHEET:
        7. Warrant period and storage condition
The warranty period of the tape is 6 months after delivery. But the tape must be stored indoors at
normal temperature (20~35℃)and normal humidity (45~85%RH) as delivery-packaged in the place
where direct sunlight does not affect

That is a warranty on that particular tape.
However 3M have a guide to shelf life of their tape which was easier to find online.

        3M Vinyl Electrical Tape 35:
Shelf Life & Storage This product has a 5-year shelf life (from date of manufacture) when stored in humidity controlled storage (50°F/10°C to 80°F/27°C and <75% relative humidity).

Any tape is dead after a day in the sun. The adhesive melts but more importantly, it doesn't stretch the same, which makes it useless completely useless for electrical insulation and a pain in the arse for wiring harnesses where you cant use cable ties or velcro.

        • +1

Relative humidity probably killed it. We get 99% on a daily. Thanks for the data sheet info.

Shame this tape is now made in China….not as good as the original made in Japan Nitto.

Still the price is good for what it is.

Reminds of days when we used to play tape ball cricket

    • The good old days 🥰

  • do all these tapes go bad after a period of time (turn all mushy/sticky)? if so there is a way to keep it pristine?

    • +2

Yes they do but last a lot longer than most others.

Keep it out of the heat, pretty much unavoidable depending on where you are, that's about it though

Mine have stayed perfect for ten plus years. Kept cool and out of the sun.
The edges are pristine and look like new. Not like the cheaper no-name brands that go claggy after six months.

      • Yup. If they're sealed in plastic out of heat and sunlight a decent tape will last ages.
I think some of the cheaper vinyl tapes degrade with time.
Im guessing when you meant NITTO when you said 'mine'.
I rate the RIPPER brand for a cheap tape. Made in Taiwan

    • I'm going to put mine in a small zip-lock bag and then keep in a drawer. I bought 2 of every colour!

    • I used this for a headlight wire in my car and it's loose, not sticky after around 2 years.

      • Not really meant for that application, hot headlamp, hot engine bay, this Nitto is max rated at 90 degrees C.

Do yourself a favour and solder + heat shrink, preferably glue lined!

That said 3M Super 88 might handle it but still nowhere near as good holding as glue lined heat shrink.

    • Keep them in the fridge

  • Can use latitude pay as payment 😂.

Seriously, this is good gear and should be built into toolkits.

  • I just bought Tessa insulation tape on Amazon for $16: https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B01I2MLN2Q

    Is it the same?

    • +1

      Totally different product

  • I saw this in Jaycar today and bought 5 rolls. I'm a qualified but non-practicing electrician and reckon that stuff is the best you can buy for the money. We used to get one that was on a metal role and that was really good but I haven't seen it for years.

    • +9

I'm an un-qualified but practicing electrician, and yes for the money it's great. The 3M Scotch Super 33+ is a lot better especially in harsh conditions, but $13 a roll the same length is painful.

I’m Commander Shepherd and this is my favourite tape on the Citadel.

  • Use case for normal Joe bloggs home user?

    • +1

It's designed for taping wires together without being conductive, so any time you need to tape anything similar to a wire together.

  • +1

Not sure if needed but bought 6.

    Thanks OP

My first car was held together with this stuff

  • Thanks OP, managed to get 2 of each!
