        In an October 2023 interview, Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa reiterated that the company would remain focused on Switch until the end of Nintendo’s current fiscal year in March 2024

        Most likely announced very soon. Probably released between mid to end of this year.

        Spending $400 on a seven year old console (besides a new screen) when we’re likely months away from the new model seems absolutely crazy to me.

          What if the new one can't be hacked? I mean its Nintendo so it will most likely take 3 days to hack but it might be months to years even.

              @Mooncakes: It does, doesn't mean it is hacked the day it is released and updates often patch exploits before an exploit is publicly available. Often this means you need to buy one day one and then leave it on the shelf. While this Switch OLED model can still be mod hacked today.

      Nope, they both run the same SoC inside. The only improvement to docked play is the OLED dock has a builtin ethernet port vs. using a $20 external usb ethernet card on the older dock.

    Still a great system. I grabbed an OLED mid last year - was great to travel with. Just played through Red Dead Redemption - excellent port. Cool to play on-the-go, or docked.

            @Freestyle: You might be mistaking the Switch Pro and the Switch 2, 3rd party developers already have devkits for the device. It is rumoured to be announced in March via a random YouTube video like they did with the first one.

            That was the Pro that Nintendo decided not to release because:
            1) Supply chain issues creating a whole SKU during a pandemic.
            2) Massive amounts of people buying the old model (because bored during lockdowns) meaning Nintendo didn’t need to release a new console with lower profit margins.

    Genuinely baffles me why these things are so popular. Got the Neon colour from the Big W deal and it’s collecting dust. I can understand if you commute or travel but other than that, I see little need for it if you already own a PS5/XSX.

      Good games (maybe not modern Pokemon and Zelda) trapped on shitty devices. It's how Nintendo gets away with selling this garbage for 7 years even though the hardware is already out of date upon release.

      Obviously differs from person to person, but some like the portability aspect (even if it simply means being able to play in different parts of the house rather than always having to sit in front of your TV - though some will argue you'd want to play the switch in docked mode at home anyway). Otherwise the more obvious one is the lineup of games.

      My wife has no interest in the PS5 collection but will happily play those Mini Nintendo titles like Mario Party etc.

      I find the Nintendo is great for a few people over simple easy fun.. PS5 is practically a "dont play my save file"
