        • Apple seem to not be getting the memo.

  • Too bad if you bought it last week for $147 at OW.

    • +2

Not really, happy to pay $13 more for local warranty.

      • But couldn't you price beat at Officeworks now?

        • +3

It's a price using a code. I don't know why people call Mobileciti phones grey market. They're supposed to be australian stock with au warranty.

          • +2

@shxhshzhz: Just prefer to walk back into the store 10 mins away as opposed to deal with someone not even in my state.
$13 is not the end of the world.

      • Can I please check how long does Officeworks warranty cover for this phone?

      • -1

Mobileciti also comes with Australian Warranty.

  • +2

    That's cheap!

    • +3

So you were never going to use the 3.5mm headphone jack therefore no one needs it right?

    • -3

Well… this was supposed to be a joke, but you muppets seem to take your 3.5mm jack business very seriously. I apologies for the offence it has caused. Not really…

      • this was supposed to be a joke

        Sure…

        • What is this Reddit?

  • -5

Cheap, but recommended to reflash this since it's grey market.

I remember a few years ago someone got a phone full of malware off kogan. Oneplus or something.

    • Different year, different phone, different seller - gimme a break.

I swear the way this phone is being priced, it could very well be my Lightroom editing phone since I can just slot in a microSD card.

  • Won’t work with Uber Didi

Guy in front of me at Woollies last Monday had one of these that he was about to pay for — for $49. It was obviously a price error (was supposed to be $149) but he insisted that he paid that amount, and he got it.
The staff quickly moved to make sure the proper price was in place.
I should have grabbed one on the spot. I do not need a new handset but that has never stopped me before

I think the variants in the supermarket may be locked to a certain network.

Still good for $50, especially if they were going to use that network anyway.

    • +2

Wow. So where did he see and pay 49?

      • WW E Doncaster (Melbourne)

        • +1

I meant where the price tag was inside WW.

          • @amorn: I don't know, I did not see the price tag

  • +1

Is this the cheapest value phone? Thanks

    • Yes and no, it depends

Can anyone else confirm that there's an issue with the Didi/Uber app and what the issue is exactly?

    • -1

Look in some other G14 thread and you'll see it..

  • How does this compare with iPhone 13 ?

    • No wonder you are unemployed.

    • Well it's cheaper…

10 of these or an s24 ultra?? Screen might be a bit bigger with ten of them. Portable monitor

It annoys me when a phone has NFC, but doesn't support wireless charging.

NFC means that it has 90% of the hardware required for wireless charging, why didn't they spend $1 more for the wireless charging chip? I'd pay $10 more for that function.

    • Is it really related? I thought it would be completely separate hardware for these 2 features?

      • +2

I'm no expert on NFC, but I've never seen a phone with wireless charging that didn't have NFC, so I'm thinking they're connected.

Both use a coil, and communicate through inductive coupling. Your question made me check though, and I just read that charging is a part of the NFC standard.

        • +2

Wow, you're right, it's relatively new (2021) but maxes at 1W charging rate and is different to Qi and your normal wireless charging methods that can do up to 30W and reverse charging.

          • @DerpFactory: Then they must be different hardware. I don't think 1W would actually charge a phone in a realistic amount of time.

Say the phone has a 3000mAh battery charged to 4.2V, that is 12.6Wh, so would take at least 12.6 hours to charge. More actually, because the phone is consuming power from the battery while the battery is being charged.

What could you charge with 1W? Maybe you'll be able to charge wireless earbuds directly from the phone?

            • +1

@Russ: Agreed. The 1W NFC charging is for accessories like buds. It repurposes the 13MHz NFC antenna and likely uses smaller hardware in the accessories than Qi which is sub 200KHz.

The antenna designs would not be compatible. They would be completely separate (although there might be chips that handle both as they are such common features)

  • Suitable for an elderly lady who doesn’t do much but just use it for WhatsApp?

  • A question for someone who has this phone: can you use it without pressing the hardware buttons? Does it have tap-to-wake or double-tap-to-wake?

(I know the hardware buttons are needed to turn power on and off, I'm enquiring about everyday use).

    • Replying to myself, as I bought one: no, it doesn't have tap-to-wake, but if you leave "ambient mode" turned on, a bump from the side will bring up a clock display, and you can swipe up to get to the unlock screen. Also has raise-to-wake, which works even if you don't have face-recognition enabled.

Now trying to get screenshot-tile to work, and my favourite volume-control widget. Should be able to go buttonless, other than powering the phone on and off.

      • Glad you are happy with your new purchase.

On the contrary, i much prefer physical buttons and immediately disabled all ambient gestures.

Having the screen wake up everytime i merely touch the phone was making me annoyed.

        • I've had to "retire" several phones due to broken buttons, when they were working fine in all other aspects. That's why I now avoid using buttons.

Looking back at those phones, which all cost $100 or less, and looking at how the buttons were designed, I'd say they were deliberately designed to wear out within a couple of years. Planned obsolescence. Hopefully I can make this phone last longer.

          • @Russ: That's never happened to me with a phone before. I'm pretty pedantic with how I treat my stuff though. First thing I did was order a nice case and screen protector for ten bucks on eBay.
