clearly retailers already know that the 4080s is going to be a massive failure.

    • -4

Or you know nvidia gave the 4080 line a price cut with the super

      • The price cut isn't applicable (aside from this) in Australia since the 4080 Super costs $200-300 more.

I got a 4080 recently for $100 less than what this listing is. More worthwhile in my cass since the Super is only a 3% uplift and I'm coming from the 1080ti.

      • -1

you're probably right, retailers get about 2-3% margins these days on a GPU at best. this deal is 100% rebated by distributor (who may in turn be rebated by nvidia). otherwise they're literally throwing away hundreds of dollars per sale.

people quoting the ~$1870 MSRP on nvidia au website don't know how things really work.

      • +2

        """Price cut"""

4080's were already going for ~1500. This is just nvidia resetting the msrp.

    • +1

Only so much as 4080, since the performance is only +2.5%

  • +12

    HODL

4080 super and 4080 super oc. Are there two have significant differences?

    • +1

depending on how far the OC was pushed…

    • +3

      2-3% difference, very negligible.

      • sounds like it is not a must to purchase the OC version then. Save some bucks.

  • +1

will pull the trigger sub 1500.. missed the PNY deal sadly

    • +1

it was a 4080 not super. 4080 was $1500 (with ebay GC) + diablo 4 last year july

      • +4

well, the super got slightly higer spec chip but worse power supply, sometimes it can't even outperform the stock 4080

        • +4

i know they are almost the same. i meant the ship for 4080 has sailed, unless killer price, hold for 5080

    • +1

Which card do you currently have?

      • 6600 XT .

  • +3

I’ve gone full console gaming. I can hold for 6080

To start, no offense to OP here - GPU deals dont come often. But feel the need to make this PSA:

There is a badly designed card, and there is the MSI Ventus series, scoring consistently the lowest tier from 4070, 4070ti, 4080 all the way to a 4090. This here wont be any better.

At the end of the day, MSI's GPU product lineup really goes in line the same as their gaming laptops, if you grab the budget tier ones, you are going to end up with a bottom of barrel product, that is engineered to be inferior.

No, MSI is perfectly capable of designing stuff that doesn't suck, the only reason why they dont offer you good products is because you didnt pay MSI enough and you are not considered a valued customer by their standards.

I would definitely save my hard earned $$$ for something else if I were you guys - even if you have to wait for another deal. Definitely worth it.

they’re not backed by any performance data

Em mate. Did you actually watched his full video? He went through thermals, vrm, power limits and all quantitative data before coming to the last slide where he did the rating.

        • -4

Where’s the performance data? Seriously all that other stuff’s lovely… where’s the data that says one performs better than the other?

          • +3

@AloraanGrogu: Literally in the video? I dont know what you wanted to know?

Surely you arent going to tell me if MSI skimped out all everything else the performance is magically higher than others? That you are happy to endure with a card with higher noise than others and with less OC headroom?

            • -4

@Brrrrt: There is 0 performance data in the video… also skimped isn't the correct wording… idk if you know this but if you buy a KIA Picanto and put 98 fuel in it, it doesn't go faster or get better fuel economy… as I said in my previous comment the info they posted is all lovely stuff… wheres the performance data that says one actually performs better than the other… literally the number 2 top comment on the video you posted even says something along those lines of theres about a 1% variance between all the cards in actual real world performance. If you wanna spend your money on a ROG STRIX go for it but don't go telling people that an MSI is going to have issues without actually having some real data.

    • +4

yet they all perform within a couple % of each other

      • +3

Im sorry, but if I pay next to two grand for a piece of silicone with some scrap metal attached to it. I would want to get the best my money can get.

        • +2

          Scrap metal?

I'll have you know NVIDIA's GPU's are forged with only the most super Ti metals. Metals so rare that Jensen Huang values them almost as highly as his leather jacket.

    • Did he actually test any of the cards himself or just rely on his sources?

  • +3

Very tempting but will hodl for some version of AD102 die + 384 bit bus if that ever becomes attainable for the duration of this generation (which is only until the end of the year probably anyway)

For context, my existing RTX 3080 Ti has a GA102 die with a 384 bit wide bus.

The 103 die variant and 256 bit wide bus belies this card's status as effectively some sort of 70-class (RTX 4070 Super Duper Ultra Mega Platinum Titanium Ti) rather than a true 80 class GPU.

    • +3

not likely, makes little sense for them to another refresh of 4080 just after the release of 4080 super…

    • Memory bus doesnt mean that much

The 4070ti has 192 bit and smashed the living shit out of the 3080to and eve. A 3090

Thdre wont be an ad102 with a full buss.

Blackwell will only be 384 for their top chip rest will be 256

      • It's because nvidia can cut costs to save money, and still sell boatloads of them.

If amd/Intel were putting up a better fight, nvidia would be pushing the memory bandwidth higher to get better numbers.

      • In that case guess my next GPU will be the Blackwell top chip!

    • The NVIDIA RTX 6000 Ada Exists if you can afford it

  • +1

Currently you will not see many deals during the Chinese New Year holidays as the factories are off for weeks and retailers will have low stocks. After weeks more deals will pop up for sure.
    HODL pls

    • that's not how this works LOL

      but still yes HODL pls

    • +1

That's not how PC party pricing works

a 1 weeks holiday isn't going to impact stock levels.

Most of the GPU stock you see now,was manufactured 2 or more quarters ago.

  • I'm sure I've remembered this wrong but, didn't hardware unboxed say in their review video that NVIDIA reached out warning that MSI 4080 super cards were underperforming by about 5%?

    • Yes, but MSI has an update available on their website already so it doesnt matter

  • +1

..this is meant to be $200 USD cheaper than the regular 4080

  • +1

I'm honestly considering going team red if the 7900xt drops below $1100,

  • My 6800xt driver update with amd fluid motion fps increase it's like a new gpu. It I was going to upgrade this year but really no need now.

  • Save yourself the $99 and get the non super for 1600 currently at CCPU if you want to buy now and not HODL

  • had a 3090 ventus that died after 2.5yrs. Bought it originally on release day at full price, luckily it was still under warranty and got a full refund back. Spent that money to buy a 4080 and pocketed the other 1k.

    • That is scary you can drop that sort of money on a electronic device and it can die within that time frame. Did you have to go through ACCC as usual warranty is 2years (which is a joke anyway for a $3.5k price point)

      • +1

I believe the warranty was for 3 years? i may be wrong, or the 2.5yr estimate was off. The warranty was through pccg, i've always had good experience with them, they provide full refund with no questions asked if something dies within warranty period.

I work in the VFX industry, so my PC parts are always pretty beefy and highend for work/personal practice. Our studio workstations are like $9000 each for couple hundred people.

        • Do you usually have high end stuff fail before warranty or after warranty expires?

          • +1

@TheGman101: do you mean personally? I've had 3 hardware components fail ever. First was an Asus ROG GTX 780ti, that was under warranty and got a full refund (used that money to buy a 1080). Then when my 3090 died as mentioned above, it somehow killed my i9-13900k as well (maybe short circut?), the motherboard was fine though. It was very strange. I got both of them a full refund (all 3 refunds are from pccg). I bought another 13900k locally at like $300 less because it was quite a bit after release.

    • I'm assuming they couldn't' replace the 3090 so they just refunded the whole amount?

      • i just asked for a refund and they provided. But at the time, i do believe the 3090 was pretty much a discontinued product (or at least they dont stock it anymore)

  • Unless it's someone in a hurry to buy a card recently, I can't think of a reason to buy. The 4080 obviously hasn't dropped to its lowest point yet, and the 4080 Super is just a disguised price reduction measure. NVIDIA's pricing for the 40 series graphics cards is just a pile of crap.

    • Whole generation of crap imo

  • forget about the performance, 40XXsuper is purely for stock-take clearance only. BTW 7900xtx is over priced either.

  • I'm holding till 26'

  • do you really need a new pci 5.0 power supply for this or can you use the adapter that comes with it safely? currently have a old hx 1050 corsair
