      • How much did you put for monthly expenses? I feel like mine got rejected because my number was too low.

My partner also applied, she got a phone call to confirm the details and was told after verifying the information she was rejected. It felt like our expenses weren't high enough.

Otherwise our profile is excellent, high income, no missed repayments, etc.

Will try again in the future and try with higher numbers lol

      • did anything change after review?

  • +1

Submitted an application and "We will notify you of the outcome within 5 - 10 business days."

Finger crossed. Does anyone know how long it takes to approve?

    • I received confirmation the following day - I was surprised because I got approval on a Saurday.

      • Did you receive the same message after submitted application to tell you to wait?

        • @hohoisme, yes, I did! So I was surprised it came so quickly.

  • Anyone able to get offer up again? Previously worked for me using VPN but not anymore.

    • didn't work after multiple refreshes, VPN etc.

only worked after I used a different device (work laptop)

  • Got the 120k offer to show, no trick just used Opera, was rejected pretty much straightaway though. Churned 3 cards in the past 12 months, plus had my long term card i've had for ~2 yrs. Bit annoying really.

  • Anyone know how quickly the bonus points get added to your velocity account upon completing the minimum spend? Is it right after hitting the 3k or do you have to wait out the 90 days?

    • got mine once i hit the spend

  • First time velocity CC card for me, I was just approved for $31k limit but wondering if this amount is too high if I want to apply for another card like Westpac altitude platinum in a few months after I hit my spend and get the 120k points. Obviously I won't be cancelling this card for 12 months to make use of the benefits.

For reference my income is ~$125k p.a and I have two other cards with a $5k and $3k limit. I don't use the $3k card anymore so also wondering if I should cancel this before or after applying for another CC? I heard cancelling cards can look negatively on your credit report.

    TIA

  • i got rejected immediately for this card even though i requested the smallest limit possible and have more than 100k income with very modest limits on existing credit cards ($12k total limit), gggrrrrr…….

i am quite a prolific churner (average about 4 to 5 cards each year for the past few years)

but on the plus side, i applied for the Virgin Money card and got approved for that :D

    • Did you get a rejection email?

      • nope, i called their phone line and they said all rejections are sent via physical letter (in this day and age! crazy). my rejection letter said something about my credit score not being suitable.

  • So i can get the 120k link to the AMEX website, but then when i click on the link on the AMEX website to get the extra 30k through virgin that links me back to the virgin website. When i then select 30k extra and it asks to select a credit card the only option i can seed is 100k.

Is there a way to proceed with the 120k via AMEX website and pursue the 30k separately with virgin?

    • Both are seperate processes. First go through the Velocity link to select your preferred bonus. Once you receive the email from velocity that you opt-in is successful, you apply directly from Amex website for the card.

    • Did you pursued for extra? Is great they will match that!

  • +1

FWIW I managed to get the 120k offer when clicking through the referral links

  • My partner and I both seperatly applied for this card.

This is the second time I've applied in 3 months. I was rejected the first time (probably again). During the online application it did not ask me to upload payslips.

For my partner, it asked her to upload payslips after the page where it asks you to select a credit limit.

It's weird I never got this opportunity to upload my payslips. It makes me think I was auto rejected. Anyone have thoughts on this?

Keen to know now rather than wait 2 weeks for them to send the letter in the mail.

    • How did this work out for you? Exact same circumstances here. My partner, who got approved, was asked for payslips immediately, whereas I got the '5-10 business days' message and no opportunity to upload documents.

      • +1

I never heard back from amex. Not even a rejection letter.

My partner did get accepted and we applied for a second card. Ended up netting 145,000 points with the second card bonus, velocity bonus, and unfortunately my partner only clicked through the 100k sign up.

Glad we got one amex. I'll be in no rush to get another. Seems like it's only ruining my credit rating.

        • Poor form from Amex… I suspect they don't like the fact that I am a churner (3-4 cards a year), whereas my partner usually applies for 1-2 cards a year. Oh well.

          • +1

@fvn: We are in the same boat. I probably went too hard too soon. Going to sit low for a while haha.

            • @ninnypoop: Good idea! There aren't many other good credit card deals going around at the moment from what I can tell. Hopefully, another one pops up that isn't Amex.

  • Good Morning All. After going back n forth with trying different things, I finally got the 120K Offer and applied accordingly on Saturday night. It's been a day and a half but I haven't even received an application confirmation with Amex. Is this common?

    • how did you get it?

    • prob means you got rejected like me

      • Not sure, hopefully not. I called to check and they said they got the application, one of the agent will call me back.

        • Any update in the same boat

          • +1

@Voyzee: I also got no email / confirmation after application.
I called up and they found my app - then requested payslips

          • +1

@Voyzee: They called for ID verification and then approved the application.

  • For those of you who got rejected but have good credit history, how many credit cards do you currently have open?

    • 1

      • well there goes my theory, thanks for the reply

    • i had 2 open for a total limit about $10k. my repayment history is perfect but i churn at least 3 or 4 cards a year

  • Got declined 👎

  • I think we should all complain - who get rejected with perfect scores!

  • is there anyone where who applied, got rejected and re-applied in a few months and approved?

  • What's the lowest credit limit for this card?

  • Unsuccessful application
    $115k income
1 card open, have closed at least 2 others in the past year
Have never had an AMEX before and won’t bother applying for one again after this

  • Declined also. If you are a churner I would stay away from this one.

Missed out on the 30k bonus velocity offer too SMH!

edit: Should also mention that I had a NAB CC that was still in the process of being closed when I applied for this - probably a deciding factor

  • +1

Applied yesterday and got approved today. I had one CC last year which was already closed. Mid 80k salary. Still gave it a shot given that there's a high rejection rate.

  • Update 30/04/2024: The standard bonus is now 60,000 velocity points with 100,000 velocity points using the referral code.

  • Applied card today with 120k bonus link at 11.30AM, I have missed to enter one information during the application so i called support team and part of the call they have approved my application within 15 mins.

  • Has anyone been able to get the 120k offer for the last few days. Only can see 100k - have tried multiple browsers and incognito

  • This card looks pretty good - decent Velocity point bonus, complimentary annual flight, and 1.25 velocity points for every $1 (non Gov spend), which is higher than the usual,

I note the deal here is going to expire (unless extended) next week. Anyone know if the approval needs to happen prior to 15 May, or just the application for the card?

    Eg.

Receive 120,000 bonus Velocity Points when you apply online by 15 May 2024, are approved, and spend $3,000 on eligible purchases on your new American Express Velocity Platinum Card within the first 3 months.

Also, for those who are familiar with Amex - is the fee some merchants will charge for use of Amex much higher than the usual 1.5 per cent surcharge or so that is fairly common with Visa/MC?

  • My application is rejected and they asked to call again once rejection letter received.

One question - When credit card rejects, will other bank know about this rejection? or will track the enquiry only on our report. Any inputs will help?
