  • would these be good for general camping use i.e. car camping and hung up inside the cabin for light when the car's powered down?

    • +2

I can't see why not. I have young kids and we have one of these running all night (lowest setting) in a hallway and it runs for weeks between charging. We always take them on overnight stays for the same reason. They're build like tanks and surprisingly heavy.

      • Cheers, good to know about the durability. Bought one. :)

A little late but if you want a good carry case then the JBL Flip 4/5 case is a good fit with room to spare lengthwise. About $10 delivered from AliExpress - eg https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005003768826689.html .

          $15 del at ebay: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/364696129676

          • @Igaf: Thanks, it's mostly going to stay inside my glove box for camping trips so no need for this at the moment.

I received the unit yesterday. @Ruckmauler was right - it is surprisingly heavy and seems like the casing is some sort of metal, which I appreciate over plastic.

            • @tacos4brekkie: It's machined anodised aluminium (6061?) alloy, typical Sofirn (and many other 'portable light' manufacturers) . Very solid. The case is useful for cables, O rings, spare battery, manual etc, and protection of the plastic diffuser.

You might be interested in this review by an Ozbargain torch specialist: https://timmcmahon.com.au/posts/sofirn_lt1s/ There are plenty more.

              • @Igaf: There's always a super in depth review of every thing if you look hard enough lol! Thanks for this. I'll consider the case pretty soon just for normal cable management etc. would you happen to know where I could get a spare battery for the lantern? That might come in handy.

                • @tacos4brekkie:

Yep, although you wouldn't think so given some questions on Ozb.

I haven't needed spare batteries so far (can swap between torches) but my searching suggests vape outlets are a good resource. Battery turnover is probably high and their prices are often better. Here's one: https://batteryverse.com.au/collections/18650 They have both 21700s and the shorter/thinner 18650s.

A bit of reading on battery brand quality (and how to spot fakes) is probably wise if you have time (very cheap probably equals do not buy). If not Molicel, Samsung, Sony, LG, Sanyo all get decent reports depending on your power and drain needs.

Word of warning, Ask the seller about battery length before you buy. For example, protected cells may not fit. From memory the LT1S is a flat top so even some 21700 button tops may not fit, depending on the brand. I haven't tried but according to reviews both 21700 and 18650s fit due to the spring on the bottom. GL

Btw, I like this guy's basic, no nonsense torch reviews. Here's one on your lantern: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v4Tkp1oPAuA&ab_channel=Liqui…

  • Great little light!

I rate these lights, very bright and solid build with a great battery life. I have hung it from a Gazebo for general light at a camp site and it is suprisingly bright for a tiny unit.

Q8 Pro for $77 atm also

    • This or the Q8 Plus? Thats aroound $100 atm too!

      • I only just bought a Q8 Pro so no practical advice, but I couldn't find enough reasons to spend nearly double to get the Plus over the Pro

      • Good price, about $102 from Ali + gst.

Sucks they don't stock the 5000k version, that's the one I really want

        • Why do you want the yellower 5000k?

          • @Serpeant: 5000k is close to daylight, imo its much better unless you're just gonna show off how bright your light is (cold looks brighter).

Gonna keep this one in the car and use with a diffuser, much easier on the eyes when it's a warmer light.

I never go camping without these, great product.

    Was $42 last august - I missed out :(

    • +1

Good to know. Not in a rush so I will wait :)

  • What advantage comparing with Kmart one?

  • I do prefer to light globe for inside of tent rather than a lantern.

    https://www.kmart.com.au/product/bulb-tent-light-42463542/

Brightness need keep as low as possible due to human being ciliary muscle take time to shrink or expend for environment light brightness

    • You do realise this goes down to moonlight levels of brigness

  • For small pop up camping tent or hiking/trekking tent, one AA light bulb more than enough for inside lighting.
