  • This or amex velocity (120k points)?

    • a wise man would say both. Or one at a time. Amex first then this.

    • Amex is better, eventho annual is more there spend is less and offsetting the annual fee by 1 free domestic return ticket per year. I feel amex is way better.

    • +1

IF you get approved by Amex

    • the fact that some merchants don't accept amex is very annoying and pushing me away from it. Higher amex fees for stores is the excuse, apparently.

For churners I think the Westpac Altitude Platinum Credit Card with Velocity Points is better value with bonus 30,000 points. Has less spending requirements though the points earn rate is pretty poor.

    • Fees is silly too, extra $75 for velocity membership. Clearly targeting churners.

Virgin Flyer is a better deal IMO. $1500 for 2 months each, Annual Fee is just $64 and 60,000 points.. Plus the 30K bonus applies too

    • And $129 flight voucher technically makes this card profitable.

I closed this card yesterday and i asked for pro rata refund and they said yes to the refunds. Dont forgot to ask for refund guys!

      • Posted via cheque or were you able to get it transferred to your bank account ?
Citi has been difficult and I always get my card refunds via bank cheque.

        • +2

Cheque under the card holder's name. Make sure your address is correct in the system

    • Agreed - just applied for this one yesterday to get the 200 status credits.

    • Agreed, better off getting the lower tier one with lower credit limit and min spend required, for only a difference of 10k points per month

OP Update your post. I've made your offer better. https://www.velocityfrequentflyer.com/partners-offers/veloci…

Velocity (Virgin Australia) offering 30K points OR 200 Status Credits for applying for a virgin credit card.

      It's already in the post….

  • Isnt the Westpac Altitude Platinum Card better value with the current Virgin 30K promo?

100K VFF for a possible annual fee of $149, assuming you are a westpac customer (or just open a simple banking account).

    • You don't get the 30k Velocity bonus unless you choose the velocity westpac platinum card.
The altitude card is free for westpac customers, the velocity one is 249 + 75. Velocity has 90k points plus 30k bonus.
Altitude card points convert at 3:1 to velocity so not even close to 100k velocity points.
I'm not sure where you are getting your figures from.

        On Westpac website

        https://www.westpac.com.au/personal-banking/credit-cards/vel…

70,000 bonus Velocity Points for $4k spend + add on the current 30K bonus promo points from Virgin = 100k?

        From the Virgin website too';

        "70,000 bonus Velocity Points1+ choose 30,000 bonus Points or 200 Status Credits by 31 March 2024* "

        • My bad was talking about black version. There is a difference between altitude and velocity cards though.

  • Meh

  • 40,000 bonus Velocity Points will be awarded for every month $3,500 or more is spent on eligible purchases for the first 2 months from card approval (spend period).

This card cannot be added to the phone immediately after approval (like ANZ for example). So you have to wait for it to arrive in the post. However, once the card is approved, the clock starts right away for the first month, even if there are postal delays and your card arrives 1-2 weeks later. Just something to keep in mind if you're lining up purchases to hit the limit. I had to call Support to get them to override the first month eligibility because my card arrived quite late during the xmas period.

  • Can anyone find the "new cards customers" definition? I've searched high and low. One of those credit card aggregators state it's usually 12 months but I've never encountered a bank that doesn't make it pretty clear.

    • Same, can't find anything. I've read other comments in other posts and we have people applying twice within a year and getting the bonus.

Virgin uses Citi. They are pretty lax. I got the bonus last year after closing and applying another within 4 months.

    • +2

I second this. Can't find anywhere in their TCs re 12 month waiting period

  • Has anyone managed to hold both the Flyer and High Flyer card simultaneously? I have a Flyer card with a substantial balance transfer at the moment, but would like to see if I can get this one too, especially with the 30k bonus.
