The Ozb community's appetite for 4090s seems insatiable, so we've worked hard to ensure we can keep feeding the beast! We've managed to secure AX WiFi boards for both builds, and have included high tier cooling and base spec on both.

And there's a nice MSI theme running through, particularly on the Intel build, mobo, PSU, 360mm liquid cooler and case all from team dragon.

  • Wow that Intel deal is crazy!!

  • +12

Seriously impressive deals. All of TechFast's recent gaming builds of the last 3 months or so easily qualify as the best performance-per-dollar gaming builds posted in the last 5 years on OzBargain.

    • Agreed and I like that they are transparent now with the parts. Up there on recommendation list

    • Yeah it’s amazing! I got a 4060 & Ryzen 5 combo from them for $750 a fortnight ago and build quality is exceptional and I still can’t believe it was only $750!

  • Great value for a 4090 build

  • If I didn't already have a 13900k + 4090, I'd buy one of these

  • +1

    What advantages for gaming would i see from a i9-14900 v R7-7800X3D?

    • +8

None. TechFast are just catering to either side of the fanboy divide because Intel fanboys continually kept asking for gaming builds with Intel CPUs in their previous deals but seriously, for gaming it doesn't matter.

      • +1

i9 is generally better for other things though, but like you said X3D is the best CPU for gaming :)

        • +1

          They are great space heaters

        • Intel is significantly better for productivity and low power/idle draw as well

    • The i9 has many more cores and about double the multi-threading performance. Maybe you could plug in a second GPU and run two games at once on the i9? If you are only running one game at once the AMD performs better on most games (except when GPU limited in which case the should both behave the same). The AMD has better efficiency on load while the Intel is more efficient on idle. r/Intel and r/Amd seem to agree the AMD is better if you just care about gaming:

      https://www.techspot.com/review/2783-ryzen-7800x3d-vs-core-i…

At the end of the day they are both great CPUs for gaming and should be able to drive a 4090 no problems.

      • the i9 14gen is just a rebranded 13gen,
the AMD is vastly better because the AM5 motherboard be supporting at least the next 4yrs of CPUs unlike Intel which only does 2yrs and even then half their CPU are just rebrands of the last gen. also the X3D is a very new technology and games that have made use of it have seen significant gains %20 to 30+

  • Waiting for your intel i9 + 4080s deal! Hope you post it next week

    • +1

      Yep will be

  • +1

Interesting that the case upgrade price is approx the RRP of that other case. Would’ve liked a front usb-c port

    • oh man so right, no usb-c on the top also :( that i can see, but still damn enticing and a good deal

  • Do you have anything in the ITX space?

    • Motherboard supply sucks at the moment, but we're working on it

    • +4

Since when is an MSI pro z790 a bad mobo, or the MSI 360mm liquid cooler? Or a team Delta ddr5 ram?

  • +1

Can't wait for my kids to be a little older so I need to 2x $4000 PC's to play video games with good graphics.

  • FYI the motherboard does not have Optical input but also has what looks like a PS/2 keyboard\mouse input, in case you need that maybe!

  • +1

    Thumbs up for parts info.

  • Is this a dumb idea?….I have a 5800x, 4090 PC. Been wanting to upgrade to a 7800X3D for a while. Is buying this and selling off the second 4090 + any unecessary components from the old PC (ie. mobo, ram, PSU).

    • +1

You can grab a 7800x3d for about 550$

      • +1

Needs a new AM5 mobo, new ram as well right?

        • Wait for the next CPU gen I think, you'll see a bigger jump in performance for whatever amount you spend

What's difference from other $1000 gaming PC that's posted? Sorry not a techie with pcs
Can both run games flawlessly or just made for higher end rendering for 3d software

Budget gaming PC will play 1080p ultra graphics settings fine, mid-range gaming PC will plays 1440P ultra graphics settings fine. Top end gaming PC will play 4k ultra graphics settings fine.
What is fine? Some people 60 fps, some people 90 fps, some people 120 fps.
What is fps (frame per second)? More fps = more smoothness and responsive. https://youtu.be/Mnwhmtv8TYk?si=df6vfrWjsFKubavS

      • +1

Very kind and nice response. Good on you mate

    • This PC can run games significantly better (higher frame rates) and will handle creative stuff better as well

But for basic tasks ie. Web browsing and emails there will be negligible difference.

  • What's the difference between the cases?

Every other upgrade cost seems reasonable.

How hard is it to put windows on it yourself? The cost seems excessive given online keys

    • Download Windows Install Media onto USB stick. Plug in usb and once you boot up, just install. It's very easy to do.

    • Online Microsoft Keys are grey market at best at best and a retailer in the past have been caught using them and its bad practice. PCCG $250K Copyright

  • Would one of these be better than the other for VR gaming?

  • Have you got any R5 5500 / 3070 builds anymore?

    • We might have a 3070 deal shortly as we have some cards to shift

  • Any chance on restocking the deal for i9 with 4080 super?

    • Yep should be a new deal this week on that

  • Hi Luke, i made an order over the weekend however forgot to upgrade the RAM.

    Order #TF4880468757

I emailed this morning saying i would like to pay the difference. Can you help to make sure this is done prior to delivery?

    Thank you

  • what's the motherboard model?
    guessing its this one
    https://www.centrecom.com.au/msi-pro-b650m-p-am5-matx-mother…

    • would like to get an upgraded board, this one seem to be more suited for 65w CPU,
don't know how well it will hold up over long-term when drawing the 120+ watts the X3D needs.
plus those VRM prob hits 100c with no heatsink.

      • Yeah would be good to now if it can be upgraded

        Luke, is this an option?

  • What's the gotcha with these builds? What makes the 4090 a budget build?

    • +1

budget parts, though all the important parts like CPU, GPU and RAM you really cant go wrong on.

PSU looks decent enough + it modular.
Case isn't that great though, has good airflow and dust filters
though cable management isn't that good.

Motherboards is questionable, couldn't find any reviews of benchmarks on how it handle high-end CPU in terms of thermals and VRM.

MSI AIO had an RMA for clogging issues causing high thermals, hopefully they fixed it in this batch.
but no idea what AIO they using on 240m
      https://www.msi.com/Landing/liquid-cooler-swap-application

      • Thanks for the response. That's what i was trying to work out. I ran the parts to PCPartpicker and there was something about the MB needing a firmware to support the CPU, which i assume will be done.

I'll do some more research on the MB, but i guess the AIO can be swapped out if average

        • was about to pull the trigger on this one, but their warranty is only 1yr and you need to ship it back via Auspost. Other builders are doing 3yrs and courier pick up, don't think ill need it but some peace of mind.

        Honestly it's pretty decent.
I linked to the conclusion but it has 7 pages of information
It's a very good deal and I wouldn't be concerned with any part of the above build. You are getting a lot of bang for buck and they are all decent quality..

        • I think the concern was more with the AMD boards.

I ordered one of the AMDs and hopefully it was when they still had the wifi B650, as the giga board was a better model. The asus ones, not so much.

Although the X3D is rated with a TDP of 120w, most tests I have read quote normal usage around 65 - 70 and have it maxing out at around 88. Realistically, if you are going to overclock and tinker, you will want a better motherboard and faster ram anyway. And you would be looking at a cost maybe an extra 30 - 50% more than this system. I think the board provided will be capable enough as long as you understand that. In any case, it is still cheaper even if you throw the motherboard away and bought a better one.

This system gets you a pretty decent, complete system for the price of updating just a GPU and CPU alone.

That is the beauty of it.

Techfast cannot afford to have a heap of these come back as returns and the combinations offered here seems to be a common one.

          • @nutz: My bad I always thought the 19 deal was the true winner here so I didn't even consider the 7800x3d. Despite that CPU being decent. They invested in good products for the i9 and would comfortably buy that PC without worries if the components

            • @maverickjohn: Haha. No problem.

Both of the deals were pretty good and I almost got the i9, but given it will be used mostly for gaming, I opted for the AMD package. I spent the extra $$ on a couple of other upgrades.

Realistically, for the price of these builds, you cannot buy the all the parts. I looked at upgrading my Crosshair vii, CPU and GPU and decided this was a far better deal.
