Awesome location, but prepare to be gouged pretty hard for meals up on the mountain.

Define gouged. $400 a night for the basic cabin is already a bit how ya goin.

      • It's definitely one of Tassie's more expensive locations, but at the same time it's also a world-class iconic wilderness destination that is incredibly good condition considering how many visitors go there every year.

I was researching prices (peak season for 2 nights) recently and found that of the 6 accommodation options there, we have (from lowest to highest):
        - Waldheim Cabins (very rustic and basic facilities) $280-$560
        - Discovery Parks (range of old and new cabins) $500-$1200
        - Cradle Mountain Highlander Cabins (basic) $640-$680
        - Cradle Mountain Wilderness Village Resort (modern rooms with luxe options) $710-$950
        - Cradle Mountain Hotel (modern, but noisy rooms) $840-$1084
        - Cradle Mountain Lodge (modern, but many rooms are dated, unless you want a high end option) $1044-$4182

I've stayed at CMWV Resort twice now (and once at CM Lodge) and CMWV Resort is easily the best of the bunch in terms of rooms and also value for money in my opinion.

        • You’re the store rep. What else are you going to say. Of course it’s great.
I was asking the other person.

@furiousgeorge: $35+ per meal for middle of the road pub fare was very expensive for the two of us, if you had kids it would be outrageous.

I went off season, stayed in Highlander cabins for around $180/night, was rustic cabin but very pleasant and worth the money.

Next time we'll bring our own food and cook for the 2 nights.

        • We stayed Walheim cabins back in 2010 - very basic but loved the 2 nights there in Dec

  • Stayed here a few years ago when I did the whole state and was one of my favourite stops. Only downside….or possible upside is no wifi in the rooms (unless they've upgraded now).

    • It's an awesome place to stay, isn't it? This was an issue previously, however wifi is now available in all cabins and chalets :)

  • Convinced me - I'm booking! πŸ˜€β„οΈ
Any suggestions on a night near Launceston after flying in late? (before driving up the next day)
