I remember seeing a Acer Nitro RTX 3080 for around $1200 a year ago (on eBay after promo codes)?
Would like to see something like that come back…

    • +4

That definitely feels like a pricing error

    • That model is really bad iirc. It perform worse than 3070ti from other brands. The cooling system is bad. the 3080 is power-limited and that model has the low vram 3080. Not to mention a shit screen as well. You might wanna grab a modern 4060/4070 laptop instead.

      • Thanks for the feedback, I thought I remember correctly, do you have a link to the Ozbargain deal?
        How much was it?

That was Nitro 5? The V might have better cooling?

How goods a 4050? Also I’m no expert but 250nits 45% NTSC ain’t it chief

    • +2

It's an indoor use, fps/shooter display. Will look very average, but all about the fast motion.

4050 is not great but it's OK. I have one of the Nitro's with the latest Ryzen 6 core and 4050, so similar to this. It has better cooling than this so higher TDP (90w I think) but the GPU is much slower than the desktop 4060 and 3060 cards.

It's fine for basic gaming, just don't expect heaps. It's no better than the last gen laptop 3060 card, possibly worse in some scenarios.

    • ~10% percent behind the high end 3060 (full 140w TDP) at ~90w, but you also have access to DLSS to make up for the gap, while being obviously more power efficient. Its not an awful machine for the price, the Nitro V chassis is a huge improvement over the older one, and the 75W 4050 is quite close to max for the chip. Screen is shite, but that's about usual for everything in this price bracket. All things considered, the 4C/8T Intel CPU masquerading as a 8C is probably the most offensive thing about it.

Considering the LOQ 15 with a 7640HS + higher TDP 4050 + better screen is only ~1100 with a good cashback deal, this is a hard sell, but if you need something now its a hell lot better than the usual garbage in this price range (cough Gigabyte G5 with its ancient Clevo chassis cough)

  • V seems to be thinner than their 5 series, but if someone can confirm the 5s are better gaming performance?

    • Depends which model specifically?

    • The V's seem to be reusing their Aspire 5 chassis.

If that's the case, I don't exactly expect the cooling on these to be very good, though it shouldn't really matter for low wattage components like a 4050 and i5

Hi everyone please take a note of 135w charger. I don't understand why acer cheaps out on chargers. My nitro 5 3060 had 180w charger and often the laptop went into throttle mode with internal graphics only. This will be the same as sweet spot for optimum performance on 4050 will be around 70w, CPU would-be like 25-30 watt, just not enough juice left over for other things.

    wow 250nits lol

  • has the price gone up?

  • laptop or steam deck tho

Read the reviews from the seller before buying. So much negative reviews

  • Picked this up at Harvey Norman for $1088 and $150 gift card. Yesterday.

    • how? shows as 1198 for me

      • My guess is every hardly normal store you probably can still bargain with them which I did before and worked.

      • Was nice to the sales staff with the usual banter, told them about this happy and if they had stock. They unfortunately didn't but could order it from another store I assume and politely asked if this was the best they could do.

$1088 was what I paid but when I picked it up the ladies at the counter told me I was getting a gift card as well.

Even though Mr Harvey is a douche, the sales staff are doing what the need to do.

I installed steam with various games ranging from HL2, long drive, Skyrim, fallout 4 and DayZ and all played very well, actually stoked that GPU works on internal monitor and HDMI.
I really can't complain as in the same price range they had an i7 with a 2080.

        • You are way better at sweet talking, I tried today, wouldn't even price match

@Willyslicks: Ahhh you see, I threw out my feelers to see what type of sales person I was getting help from and luck had it we are gamers, sure slightly different tastes but non the less we got our nerd on and talked about how shite warzone went and told him about DayZ and he mentioned a few other games of the like etc.

My budget was double what I paid for but I was also looking at getting a few other things but yeah my nerd scense is tingling as I can afford a Microsoft surface duo2.
I have a crazy frame that has my work phone and personal phone in that makes it feel like a dual screen and kinda works but I need to improve the hinges and I have 2 laptop hinges coming so fingers crossed this works….. Sorry I digress

  • Thanks OP, bought one.

I have an old Nitro V 1060 that has seem better days. I really like the understated non gamer look of this laptop. Very light and sleek for a light gaming laptop with better specs than my old tank.

Screen doesn't look amazing but is ok for me.
