Wow, manual lawn mowers still exist?? I seriously haven't seen one of these since I was kid, and even then it was an ancient one at the time.

    • +3

I mowed about 700sqm with an old one on the weekend. It's not so bad, and I actually prefer it (if I do it regularly).

  • sharp enough for thick grass?

    • +2

These are not advised for thick grass, in my opinion. It's not the sharpness, but more of a limit of their design. A bit like at some point you even put the rotary powered mower aside for the whipper snipper. A certain tool for a certain job, and these definitely prefer the "mow quickly, but more often" approach.

Thanks, mother-in-law asked me to get her a new mower for her lawn (800-850m2).

    Sorted.

She will live longer than you.

  • Quite a few bad reviews on this…

    • Mother-in-laws will appreciate the review then

    • +1

Of course the mother - in -law has lot of bad reviews. How about the mower - any good reviews on it ?

I got some bad lawn im trying to regrow. Would this be good?

    • +11

      This mows lawn.

wish someone told me how useless and waste of money these are.

anyone who buys this I would bet my house you end up buying a petrol lawnmower once you find out who bad manual ones are.

    • These are for the dedicated lawn nazis, and mother-in-laws but for another reason. You apply a power mower rarely, one of these frequently, then it's out with the nail clippers. Finally you do a quick pass with the inferometer, microscope and scalpel to get that "lawns are for looking not touching" finish. Great if you're retired and need something to fill the hours.

I have a few mowers on hand. One is a manual one I got from a friend with the same views as you.

I use the manual one 9 times out of 10. I only pull out the petrol one when I am too busy and the lawn is overgrown. My lawn is quite large.

If you mow infrequently though, this is NOT for you. This is to keep a mowed lawn mowed, not to fix an overgrown lawn. It's actually a godsend in this wet weather as it will clip lawn in the rain no problem at all.

      • +1

When you say you are using this frequently, is this a mow every day? or a mow every 3 days?

        • Once per week, but mine is mostly couch. However, if I had the same lawn variety as my neighbours, it would have to be every 3 days as that shit gets thiiiiick

    • +1

      you are doing it wrong!

you attach this to your petrol lawnmower.

  • +1

I have one of these. I pulled the trigger when the price was quite a bit lower than this.

If you have a small courtyard and keep your patch of lawn trimmed often then this will work ok you. For every other use-case, don't bother. If the grass is a little long, or thick, or wet, or the ground is uneven, this mower is an exercise in frustration.

  • Better off spending a bit more and getting the ozito IMO

    • I have an ozito, bought for $30 second hand. Gets used occasionally, works fine
      .

I have had this one for a year and it's perfect for small lawns, where regular maintenance isn't an issue.

It definitely struggles with overgrown areas, so if only cut once a month, probs not for you.

Very light too, so very easy to maneuver.

  • Good for your carbon credits.

  • I'd rather use a clipper…

  • +1

    Do yourself a favor.
    Don't buy this.
I bought it from Amazon last year.
It doesn't cut grass well and the catcher holding mechnism is so bad and wobbly.
    a total crap…

Is this the Fred Flintstone model? Asking for a friend.

  • Just drop 2 at my front yard for hard waste collection (Brand: Flymo, German made I think.) I bought 11 years before. They were idle for a while. I can't believe that the price still that high ! Not worthy absolutely. Bunnings brand Spinner pretol mower is better than that.

  • Have one, mow a small courtyard which is buffalo grass and we're in the sub tropics so currently it needs mowing 2 sometimes 3 times per week, probably about 8x12x15m and we really like it. You must set the cutting height and get everything level with it and away you go, it cuts this grass really really well, the blades are sharp out of the box. The wife loves it(win win) but like others have said don't expect it cut long grass full stop.

It's not for everyone but if you have a small-ish area that's reasonably level across your lawn(and that means up hill and down) then this will do it. If you're chasing 10000 steps on Huawei or Fitbit…then this is the bomb.
