Is 85% of Xero still Xero?

  • +3

should there be more competition in this space ,

    • +5

not even a competition when the myob cloud service and product is a literal joke

so many times i have considered cutting losses at start of of a new FY and just swapping to xero

      • +3

Xero offer 2 years conversion via Jet convert for free - cannot be a trial company file for destination Xero.

Of course, after you signed up and using it you couldn't get away.

  • Xero or the cheaper quickbooks?

    • +1

Depends if you want to waste time doing bank feeds and reconciliation on QBO - Xero bank feeds and reconciliation process will save you multiple hours per month compared with QBO dependent on number of transactions so it depends whether you want to use that time not paying for a BK or Accountant and earning money, not doing Admin.
And then there the apps that connect into Xero which can be game changes for a business too

      • +1

Our practice uses both QBO and Xero. I can tell you that QBO is very shitty in comparison with Xero. If your yearly turnover is less than $150,000, I think QBO would be a better choice as it is cheaper than Xero. Otherwise , Xero all the way!

        • That is a joke, quickbooks support is incredible. You can resolve any issue within minutes by speaking with support and screen sharing. Good luck with zero ,days and days of emails. Quick books is far more superior product, some of the biggest companies in the world use quickbooks.

All bank feeds, BAS, payroll etc are automatic with quickbooks, you are obviously living in the 80's

Intuit is literally 15 times the size of Zero ( in BILLIONS)

I will NEVER go back to zero.

          • @xioxxio: Well, it is entirely up to you.
I have been using both Xero and QBO since 2017. Here are my some of my insights.
Customer service, QBO is definitely better. They have a call centre that you can call in and they are very responsive. However, there are issues that cannot be fixed by them because of their shitty engineers. I have personally encountered this problem multiple times over the years.
On the other hand, the only way to contact Xero is by using email as Xero doesn’t have a call centre. However, it is very rare that you would need to contact their customer support because Xero is so good and reliable.
Personally, I would rather having a good product than having to keep contact their customer service.

        • When you say practice, medical practice?
Does QB or xero connect to best practice?

    I started paying $45 a month, now it's $65.

So, $800 a year for that and the accountant who has to do SFA still charges me $2k.

    • Yep, Xero does a lot of the heavy lifting as long as you code transactions to the right account. Xeros Asset functionality which does depreciation is awesome which is usually an accountant function is impressive too.

      • +2

Accountants do A LOT MORE than just coding! Coding is really bookkeeper’s job.

        • I wasn't implying that as accountants are a very big value add to a business and their skillset is best leveraged to add that value.
There is a lot to running a business like BAS, payroll (STP), superannuation, FOREX, Payroll tax and a myriad of other things but for a lot of businesses it's rinse and repeat for their invoices and bills and Xero has some great features in that space that assist.

        • Are you an accountant Neil?

      • I do the heavy lifting.

I do 10 invoices per month, same people everytime. No Sales. Thats it.

All XERO does it match an Invoice amount to an amount on the Bank Feed, not who it's from, that's it.

I still have to double check etc before i reconcile it.

    • Maybe you need a Scientologist accountant and pay them in thetan points?

    • I started paying $45 a month, now it's $65.

I’m in a similar boat, would love to bring it back down - every little bit helps.

  • Can i keep two sets of accounts still if I use this? Asking for a friend

    • You can ask your creative accountant to create a custom report for your (friend's) needs ;)

  • Side note: I needed a recurring invoicing system that sends out the invoices automatically. Xero was perfect for it but too expensive. So I settled with Zoho Invoice which is free. No bank feed and auto reconciliation with Zoho though unless you use their online payment gateway.

  • Is MYOB really that bad? I found Xero a bit of a slog and cancelled my sub like 3 months ago as I wasn't using it.

    Not very user friendly imo.

Anyone want to be my accountant and fix up my account for current financial year and provide financial statements so I'm compliant lol

    • For how much?

  • Would that be good for a sole trader?

I am just starting in freelance webdesign / graphic design.
    What does OzBargain recommend?

    • What does OzBargain recommend?

Xero is good for small business, I just use it to issue invoice, issue payment receipt, print reports, don't use bank reconciliation thing like that, just very basic.

      • Yeah all I need is make invoices and receipts at this stage.
What about expenses? (internet, furniture, subcontracting etc.)

        • +1

          What about expenses?

          I just use Spend money.

    • +1

I used xero as an SME and the auto bank conciliation is basically required as far as I'm concerned. My God it is tedious work otherwise.

Apparently QuickBooks now offer this. Haven't used it recently so can't comment on that. Last time I used qb was 10 years ago and the interface still looked like 1995 word perfect on a 486.

    • Only issue i find is that if you need to accept multiple currencies, e.g. you invoice in any other currency other than $AUD, then you have to use the top tier plan which is far too expensive for a freelancer. Its a shame you cant add it on to the basic plan, otherwise i would switch immediately.

    • Check out manager.io it’s free, heaps more manual work but if you’re starting out, you won’t have lots of invoices to deal with. It can also run reports

  • I'm a sole trader not sure if I should get this and an accountant or Hnry? Any feedback would be appreciated.

    • I'm a sole trader

You must need some kind of accounting system to keep track.

  • What does OZbargain recommend for STP? I was using micro keeper for STP only, as I am moving forward with business, planning to use other more professional software, was tossing the idea between myob and Xero for STP only plan, thanks in advance.

    • +1

Not sure what ozb recommend, but I use payroller.
