174 piece … as usual 82 of which are Crimping Terminals…

    • Haha. Nah this one doesn't look like that. It does have a bunch of "bits" though

I wasn't joking … check the contents list!

  • Never met a Mechanic who manages to avoid undoing bolts larger than 19mm.

Whoever configured this kit was a few sockets short of a nut, def not the brightest at skool.

Finally however, they've begun giving up on making everyone buy and carry around SAE sized tools they'll never need.

    • Tbf anything bigger than 19 and you likely want an impact socket anyway. The only time I have used bigger than 19 that didn't require an impact was removing a steering wheel and that was only on one particular model, a hobbyist or mechanic just starting out would do well with this kit tbh, at a glance I would see myself using most of this kit in my day at work.

      • Ppl working at home are on their backs, with limited space. Upside down like this, in wheel wells and under tight engine bays, there is seldom much room, and an impact is often be too large to get in.

It's easy to forget how easy that is when used to working under hoists.

But also tbf, these little ratchets are not strong- so for larger nuts a breaker bar, or stronger ratchet (1/2") would be useful, anyhow. Only a very high quality 3/8 one would last if you do the occasional suspension nut. Sooooo yes, I'm asking a lot for a small spend.

But it is important people know if they buy this, they may well need something else to handle larger >16mm fasteners.

        • You can get short impact sockets, but as someone who spent the first 10 or so years of their younger life working on the ground under jack stands, I cannot think of a single situation where a regular impact socket wouldn't have worked, its the kind of thing where you buy the tool you need at the time rather than buying it in case. Trust, you never forget crawling around on the floor lmfao.

My point is more that the bigger socket you go the bigger risk of it shattering and taking your eye out in higher torque situations, you just don't want to risk it cause they can go pop sometimes.

@doobey1231: But on modern cars space is so tight that a big enough impact simply won't fit regardless of the extension setup. I've always suffered this, and have often had to raid the cabinet for size-appropriate hand tools.

And never had a shattered nut. In some places where the salt sets in I guess it can happen.

  • Not bad for the price, and I have to say my personal experience with mechpro is better than techpro(SCA home brand). Nice to see metric only as well!

      SCA has ToolPro

      • Ah yes thanks for the correction, I knew it was something pro lmfao.

  • are the tools any good? or better off just buying what you need?

my tech studies teacher said "buy a cheap set, replace broken with sidchrome". it works OK, I have only ever bought cheap sets and have rarely broken anything (one open end spanner, maybe 3 sockets)
      .

      • I might have been your tech studies teacher.. loljk, sort of my philosophy though. I use only my cheap items until they break. But usually I just replace it with another cheap item. While the expensive stuff sits unused.. 🤣

Although, I thought sidchrome was pretty cheap? Sidchrome is my stage2.. Then I have the Bahco/Wera/Knipex stuff that sits unused. Next thing I want is a set of Wera click torque wrenchs. 😍

        • "I thought sidchrome was pretty cheap?" they weren't in the 80's….
          .
