Does it include 1.2m long charging cable?

    • The listing picture definitely implies that it's included. I would be raising concerns if it doesn't come with it.

      • Thanks

        • +2

I cant imagine you would get a cable.

          • -1

            @corremn: Imagine harder

            • +2

              @Broomstick: is that the sequel?

              • +3

                @shmahoo: I think it's The Secret.

If you imagine hard enough, your thoughts will create a reality where you receive a cable.

are these safe? always hesitant with Amazon chargers like heymix and stuff lol

    • +22

IMO I would stick to branded stuff like Anker, UGREEN, Belkin, Cygnett etc..

      • Can you recommend one like this? I don't mind paying more…

      • +1

Anker and UGreen price are reasonable the other two bit too pricey

    • +46

You needn't worry, t's a genuine certified XIAOFEIPENG.

      • +3

What was the brand called yesterday? What will it be tomorrow?

        • +3

          Maybe IWATOP

        • XIAOFEIPENG What was the brand called yesterday?
          DAFEIPENG

      • +5

I know a genuine XIAOFEIPENG when I see it

Seriously though, it's cheap and doesn't have a compliance mark. I would have thought that was enough of a reason to steer well clear?

    • +8

You can't really know. You can't rely on user reviews as they're basically "I plug in device and it charged" - 5 stars.

      • +1

Or 'I haven't opened the box yet, but it looks good' - 5 stars

      • That and half of Amazon user reviews are for an entirely different but similar product or a different model

    • +1

I have Heymix for 2years now its been working great no issues. Why is it bad?

      • Some of their products had a reputation for catching fire

        • +3

This has a fire resistant shell so you have something to show your insurance company after the inferno at least.

          • +7

@markga: If it actually does cause a fire, and it's not compliant with Australian standards, then your insurance company won't pay out.

            • @incipient: haha fair call :-) I guess they totally want to screw you by burning down your house and the only thing remaining is a non compliant device in used to void your insurance coverage.

      • +6

You must've won the lottery. They use off spec capacitors for their chargers which produce coil whine (meaning they're getting pushed to their max) and there have been multiple reports of the chargers breaking down, smoke coming out of them etc. I personally had a 15W charger which couldn't charge 15W, constantly produced coil whine, kept short circuiting my Xiaomi power strip.

    • hesitant with Amazon chargers like heymix and stuff

They are just rated at too high a wattage than what they can safely do. Just think of it like overclocking - if you're using lower-binned silicon with inadequate cooling, you'll just have thermal issues.

Similar thing going on here - these designs are just not capable of supplying 55W or whatever it is they advertise. The voltage regulator ICs, cooling…etc. are just not high enough quality. If you just need something to charge your phone, these are fine.

20W max PD doesn’t even amount to a MacBook Air charger

    • +2

No, but why would you expect that from a $17 charger? 20W is plenty enough for most phones and other small electronics.

      • -2

Yes but I was making a PSA in case someone sees 55W and thinks it can power an ultra light laptop

Edit: because initially the title didn’t have the PD rating.

  • There ought to be a requirement to include a table or list of the supported constant power delivery combinations on product pages for all chargers.

It has ‘PD20W’ and ‘3.1A’ (i.e 15.5W) on the USB-C and -A ports respectively, adding up to an assumed 71W (20+20+15.5+15.5) but they only state that it supports 55W.

They should list the voltage, current and wattage combinations based on the combined use of each port. This is often printed on the case, but it should be right there on the listing.

My guess is that it won’t even support a full 55W, and you’ll find that at least one device plugged into it will power cycle from time to time.

It’s not that it’s not completely useless, but I shouldn’t have to second guess which ports to use when I want to charge my personal massage gun or Spirograph pen.

Edit: I feel like both the charger and battery industries are ripe for regulation now that innovation and standardisation have started to level out in this sector. Europe could really flex here.

    • +2

I don't think it will power cycle but it will probably be charging at slower speed (eg 5W on each USB port)

    • +1

the 2 x PD Type-C ports will each have max 20W
the 2 x USB A ports will each max 3.1A, but total of the 2 ports have max 3.1A

      • I'd expect that to be the case. I'm arguing that these listings should include a full table of supported combinations.

  • 19 up votes . $1000 for a phone and $17 for a charger . Um I be umb .

    • 45 up votes . $1,000,000 for a house in sydney (hardly get one) and $17 for a charger to burn it. Um I be umb .

I bought one a few months ago, gets extremely hot (i.e. too hot to touch) if you connect devices that draw a lot of power (e.g. 3 kids tablets). It's fine for charging 3 portable headphones and one tablet for example, so I have adapted accordingly.

    • Thanks for the reviews

    • yep dont buy cheapos, last time i had the same issue. EXTREME HOT when charging tablet and phone just 2 imagine if 4 devices. blow for sure

    Any one has this?

    • looks like its not exactly the same with the OP model
as this 2 packs only supports up to 40W (max 20w shared by 2 Type-C ports)

  • +2

Not sure I trust this random chin com brand at all. Had some bad experiences with random Chinese brand chargers in the past.

I personally would rather pay a bit more for a solid brand name.

  • +4

Not worth buying an unknown brand charger to save a little money. The people who built this won't care if your house burns down.

  • +1

Can this charger steals your data and send it to the CCP?

    • In theory, yes. In practice, no.

      craving… attention?

  • Always apply this rule of thumb; Does this company give a toss about my house burning down?
If no, then don't buy it.

    • Insurance companies don't care if your house burns down so you should cancel your house insurance.

      • They do need the occasional accidents, otherwise nobody would buy insurance.

  • Buy a cheap charger to charge the multiple devices worth thousands of $ that you’ve laboured at great length to buy at discount.

    This is the OzB way.

    • It is currently $15.18, but based on negative reviews it sounds like a dangerous waste of money - thanks for above reviews/link.
Oddly, Camels show $15.18 all month 🤷‍♂️

      • Yeah please don't buy random brand charger or powebank.
Doesn't matter how cheap or how good the pictures are
