Hi guys, my local Aldi store rep told me they have discontinued Logix Platinum Dishwashing Tablets 40pk.
It used to be good value 19c per tablet…not the best but did decent job with our Bosch Series 6 dishwasher.
As for the discontinuation reason is unknown or at least he didn’t know. Anyone know why? Also, what are other similar options for dishwashing tablets?

We're talking about dishwashing tablets ffs, paying attention to independent testers is an extremely rational thing to do. You can't just 'FACT' your way to a good decision here - real world testing matters. You'd do very poorly in a science field.

I am such an industry expert, I ASSUME items off the same line can't have one break, but one function normally, I ASSUME they all work exactly the same! So with that logic, how can anything have a FAILURE RATE if they all work the same off the same line?!?

I love love Choice but disagree with their findings. We have tried many different tablets and found the Aldi ones a bit ordinary compared to some of the more expensive Finish or Fairy tablets, like the Ultimate Pro or Platinum Plus.
I don't think Ultimate Pro existed when Choice did the comparison where the Platinum Aldi ones came out on top.
@AustriaBargain: They last updated the list in October last year and Aldi is still on top at 79%. Ultimate Pro lags behind by 2%, while the Fairy ones are a further 5% back.
Agreed. Bought Aldi Logix tablets in bulk based on Choice and their Ozb reputation. When they were finished, I grabbed some Fairy tablets on sale as we were desperate. These worked loads better. Gets everything off with the hour cycle even after left sitting a day or two. With Aldi I had to run it every day even if the machine was mostly empty otherwise stuff would be stuck on. Bosch Serie 6 for reference.

Yup the Aldi might be the best overall according to Choice, but they aren’t the best in every single category.
They just have strange testing practices I think.
Aldi tablets work great for me until I put a roast dish or something with hardened cooked food and thats where a branded tablet works a lot better.

Serious question, why do people use these tablets instead of just getting a big lot of dishwasher powder and a little scoop of the right amount? Also means I can run a light load and put in less powder if needed, or throw in a little more if it's a messier bunch.
Convenience. Throw a tablet with the cutlery for the pre-wash, and another in the compartment to be released during cycle. They also tend to be all-in-ones with additional additives so you don't need separate rinse aid etc.
Depends on the all-in-ones, I thought the cheap ones were just compacted powder.
For the price the convenience doesn't seem worth it to me, but I can understand just wanting a convenient solution. I probably only save a few bucks a year at the end of the day.
It isn't about the savings for me, the powder plus rinse aide just does a better job.

$7.50 gets you 40 tablets.
If you use 2 tablets per wash, that suggests you only do 20 washes per 180 days.
Given you are running the dishwasher once only every 9 days, I'd suggest your time savings with getting two tablets out rather than pouring from a container is quite minimal.
@Hybroid: Agree. We get finish ultimate pro all in 1 from amazon. Works out to be 65 for $49 delivered to the doorstep.
It does a great job and we don't mind paying a bit extra for convenience, not worth the hassle to save a few bucks personally. Tbh have a higher end Miele dishwasher so don't want to have dishwashing powder etc gunking up the innards. The tabs dissolve perfectly without any residue.

I buy the stuff in cardboard boxes and it's a little messy to pour, but yeah, I don't exactly measure it. Always go with the gut feel, dishes are always clean so I'm happy.

Keep an old container around and use that. I've got a ALDI one with a flip lid, works great! I just keep refilling it as I like the lid setup.

I just bought the Aldi brand and it has a “pourer” under the cap so yeah… no need to measure.
Where do you still get the cardboard boxes from? In NSW Coles, Aldi, woolworths all ditched them, I now have to pay nearly double for one in a plastic container. Reject shop was the last hold out here but they haven't had it for over a year or two

Get the OXO squeeze bottles when they go on sale, they're great for pouring powders; can squeeze out small or larger volumes.
My dishwasher is a dedicated drying rack for my hand washed dishes, but occasionally I do need to run a cycle just because it gets stanky from the water drippings. I had my Dishwashing powder in those Tupperware containers and it hardened to a brick so I had to dump the whole lot.
Lol not sure what part of my comment was worth negging. I got lots of baby stuff so I can't use them in the dishwasher. Man some people on here are such tossers

but in all seriousness, didn't want the powder flying in my eyes or floor as it'll probably wreck my tineco mop. $4.50 for a box that will last me 1-3 years seems to be a favourable payoff
Scoop? I use the Aldi powder and just pour it in from its spout. Takes no more or less time than pulling out a tablet.

Do you need to add rinse aid?
90% of time when people are having issues with their dishwasher the solution is "add rinse aid". I am surprised how so many people don't do it.
A super cheap additive - powder with rinse aid will almost always outperform tablets without rinse aid.
Im not sure how a tablet can effectively contain rinse aid. Its all mixed in at the same time. Separate rinse aid is added at the correct time of the cycle.
Ive always used rinse aid in the dishwasher wether with powedr or tablets. Is it better? No idea!
@Euphemistic: It doesn't dissolve at the same time, atleast for finish ones, you can see the three components of the tablet are separate. I guess the wrapper of each type have different dissolving thresholds

Yep 1kg powder gets my vote, you can use a larger amount or smaller depending on the load, the price point is also good value

I switched to the aldi powder in the blue bottle about a year ago. Seems just as good as the tablets. much cheaper too

We tested the power and found it a bit less powerful as the tablet for whatever the reason….will give it another go today as the tablet seems not coming back

I've been using the aldi powder for years. Recently it seems like they changed the formula and now it is worse than using nothing at all. It leaves white residue on everything and it does not dissolve grease which collects in the filter like a fatburg.

I noticed that the aldi logix tablet is not as good as finish ones despite the review from CHOICE.
it cleans well with average grease, but when I occasionally eat Chinese instant noodles (those with a flavored oil pack in them) washing with Logix tablet will not get rid of all smells, there's a very light amount of smell left, yet using Finish ones will get rid of all smell.
I find finish tablets leave my plastic and silicone items tasting like detergent.
Aldi ones are less so, but plastics are substantially wetter.
are those plastic wares actually dishwasher friendly? I mostly use ikea dish/bowls which is made of glass, those doesn't leave much detergent smell on them… at least smells better than left over oil :)

Not sure how you use the dish washer I always rince before putting them in. If you just chuck blob of greasy oil fat. Very harsh for your dishwasher anyway regardless of tablet brand
nah I roughly rinse it before chuck them in. It's the tablet which didn't clean off the smell.
Costco Kirkland are about the same price and work brilliantly. I used to buy the top Finish Platinum Pro before all the ridiculous price increases. Tested these and they are just as good. 115 for about $20
